Hey Laowinners!
The Patreons have voted and you guys wanted to see what an average, normal, everyday meal looks like in China. Chinese food is diverse, so we are covering Cantonese food today. We head to the wet market and buy all of our fresh Chinese ingredients, and head home to cook a normal Chinese meal. Vivi did her best! Loved this episode of Vivi cooking! =D
I want Viv as my personal chef lolz.
Why do Chinese eat with their mouth's open. I noticed your wife doing it. Is it a cultural thing?
laowhy86 make that chinese music vid review a series by genre instead of just one vid
Yo bro feel like putting out less and less videos bro. Serpentza also :(.
Don't worry guys, all the fish fillets from our American supermarkets come from fishies that have generously killed themselves for us.
A moment of silence for their sacrifice.
the fishes ar elike I would rather die fresh and delicious than going straight into the freezer
Now I'm imagining a bunch of fish lining up to jump off of a building lol.
I’m not American but I would rather it be killed just before it is cooked because it is more fresh that way
Mass suicide 🤣
I grew up and was raised in Northern China, everything is different. We don't drink soup or eat rice that often. Instead we eat BBQ a lot, which is one of northern Chinese favorite food.
I think northern Chinese food is a lot closer to western food....different tastes and seasoning to western preparation, but still a lot of beef, pork, wheat products (noodles etc.) - less rice and less fish than southern chinese food. Its a lot heartier. I grew up in the west and have had some good authentic southern chinese food but I want to try more northern dishes!!!
I lived in boading in hebei and people eat rice in every meal a long with things like potato noodles, and meats. That’s how it was at school at least
@@cristiangranados9385 the difference are indeed become smaller everyday

"Savage" Oh my, I'm dead 🤣🤣🤣🤣 your wife is amazing ! She's the type of housewife I wish I was !

*me when I’m dating guys*
oh no
ewwwwwww xD
not in that way yall ^^^
I Like Bichons AHAHAHAHA OMG SAVAGE! That is kind of funny though we eat fish probably basically every single meal multiple meals but we use flavors so it doesn't taste like fish yeah very confusing I don't like a fishy taste at all and I used to live in Hawaii and a lot of the fish there did not taste fishy so that's the kind of fish I like
I don’t get it lol
0:37 ,,you can see they are alive‘‘ *fish swims upside down*
That's the fish you avoid. In the supermarket, you're not given that option, they're all dead.
Maybe bored. xD
Nah, just suffers from Hydro-Dyslexia.
That one is just.. special

This is really fabulous because it is very intimate and real! Something else that is wonderful is getting the translation on what the locals are saying. In most cooking, travel shows, you never get to hear what the people are saying and it makes them seem dumb in a way, because they are silent and don't say anything. I loved hearing how the lady was worried about you filming her killing the fish. It shows how much we are alike, and not so different. It is also marvelous to see what you really eat and how you cook it. Love it!
Guy: "Why you got to be so violent?"
Girl: "That's how we cook"
😂😂😂
I dated a girl from Fuzhou area and the first time she made me dinner it was like this. She was nervous if I would like it but it was honestly some of the best food I have ever eaten.
Food made with love always tastes amazing.
"the eyes popped out so it's done" - I will remember that cooking tip
Would have been a great Halloween episode. ... But in China that's everyday. O_O
All of these people commenting on the fish, obviously have never been fishing. Where do they think the food in a market or grocery store comes from? Great video. Always interesting to watch how someone else from another culture does things.
i have been fishing and I kill the fish instantly. One hit in the neck and then you stab threw his heart. That's an instant death. Not hitting him to unconsciousness and leaving him alive.
@@accelerationgate5089 when the fishhead gets banged they die immediatly if you do it hard enough, one hit and the fish is dead, it's pretty painless since it's so fast
not always
Wait... the fish don’t grow in a tree?
I don’t exist For tax and insurance purposes where did they let it suffer?
1 fish was harmed in the making of this video.

Between Vivi saying "I'm a savage!" and Olivia running back for more "feesh", I think this is too much adorable for me to handle.
Finally a GREAT video. Please, more authentic Chinese home cooking videos. It seams when you watch western dudes in China, all they do is eat in restaurants (boring), but this is great. Looking forward to learning how to prepare hot, spicy sour soup, dumplings, hand made noodles and red bean dessert :-)
John Solitude have you ever checked out thewoksoflife.com? I have made some pretty authentic meals from their site including things I thought I’d never eat.
Nice site Jerry. Thanks for the link, love Asian cooking.
this is not authentic chinese home cooking, she dont even know the basic chinese cooking also, I have visited many chinese friends house nowhere I saw anybody cooking this way, after finish cooking put salt and soya sauce..
Keep in mind though that China is a HUGE country and what is normal in one part is uncommon in another. If you head towards Xinjiang, you see lots of yak-related dishes, but you don't see those at all outside special restaurants when you're on the east coast.
Sudip Mitra China has so many cultures and ways to cook. That's why I requested this video. Even though my wife is from Hunan, and has her way of cooking, other areas cook different foods and cook differently.
I loved how viv said “savage”, so cute.
"The eyes has popped out, so it's definitely cooked"
-Vivi 2017 (about the fish)
I gotta give Vivi a hand for doing this. Not everyone would be brave enough to do this unless they were a pro chief. It's good to see just an average person cooking an average meal. It's more educational that way.
YES WASH UR RICE! I’m Haitian and my step dad is Swedish and he doesn’t wash his rice, talkin bout “U don’t need to wash I because it boils at a high temperature”. Umm no...wash ur rice ppl
animeloverforever fan aleast he saved the water.
animeloverforever fan I am from Ireland. As rice is not our native food, most natives here don't know that you are supposed to wash the rice. I learned rice washing from Indian migrant woman.
I'm Swedish and everyone I know washes their rice.. it says so on the box as well haha
Well actually rice washing depends on the culture. Rice culture is very important here in Spain, many regions grow rice and almost nobody washes it so as not to take off starch for texture in most rice dishes. I think nearby countries like Italy do the same.
My turkish roommates ALWAYS washed the rice and got nervous when I told them I hadn't done the same.

Death reflex. I raise meat birds, and they do twitch even without their heads. You know the expression "running like a chicken with its head cut off?" Yeah, that's where it comes from.
One parrot fish is wild and from the Ocean.(the one from the market).. the other orange parrot fish (in the aquarium) is from the Cichlid family and lives in fresh water. I believe it was cross bred in Taiwan.
Two very different fish.
In North China, fish is often fried with oil before further cooking. We don't often have soup, and we have less types of soup, especailly in average household. Vegetables are cooked in a similar way.
Meat is, in fact, very common. And whether it is beef, lamb or pork, Chinese people always make sure they are fully cooked. Many Chinese people are too proud of their cuisines and a little narrow-minded that they of laugh at foreigners eating "raw meat". They have their reasons to be proud. As one of them, I know it. But I hope they would one day learn to try something different and appreciate it.
Vivi, "savage" 💖😂😂 I just died. I love you guys. You just provided a perfect end to an otherwise crappy day. Thank you for sharing your lives✌💖
lol you're in youtube comments telling people to get a life. Vivi "savage" was awesome!
"Savage!"
I gave this video a like as soon as she said that! Lol
P
The baby at the end was so cute!!! So cool that she's growing up to learn both languages too. ♥
YOUR BABY IS SOOOO CUTE....no offence, that was the best part. Your video was really good. Thank you for putting it up.
I bet she'd make a fortune as a child star in China.
"Is it normal to have blood all over your kitchen in China?"
"Yeah."
*no hesitation*
Bryant Moop Lol gross I dont wanna eat fr a kitchen that has blood thank god I dont eat Chinese food
I guess you only eat processed food then. Where do you think your meat comes from?!
shh! be quiet!..
Brigitte McLean Lol pretty sure he thinks animals bleed rainbows.
Bryant Moop I mean... What about when you buy raw steak mate... Or other meats... Youre gonna get blood in the kitchen. No matter where you live.

What a REAL Chinese Home Cooked Meal in China Looks Like: *FISH JUMPS FOR ITS LIFE*
yeah but still very yummy.
an straight to the dinner plate.
xDD
When that moment happend i bursted out laughing
Great video from beginning to the end. It is really cool to see the family bond. Your daughter is a doll. It reminds me of my daughter when she was small. Hang in there and I hope things are going well off camera as well as on camera.
Mom: "Finish your plate sweetie people are starving in China"
China: "Lol throw that meat out just drink the broth"
well, as a northern Chinese we don't do that
That was more of 50s-70s thing back when people still associated China with the Great Leap Forward and the massive famine that occurred. I'd be surprised if anybody tells kids today that there are people starving in China.

You rinse the rice to get rid of the starch so the rice is fluffy when you cook it and not starchy amd glutenous
Seriously the sweetest video from beginning to end. ❤️ New subscriber. I’m sure this video is old but it was recommended. Loving this content!
Buys a fish, kills it, it jumps off counter, gets blood all over the kitchen: typical Tuesday.
lol
It's because she put it on a metal plate with the exposed metal rim. It causes the muscles to react, use a non metallic plate and that doesn't happen.
She didnt wash the fish.
I think you were born without the ability to be funny.

Viv is such a sweet lady and entertaining not just the cooking that story about your mom 😂 so funny the different cultures can be funny brought together.
"Vivi's Chinese Kitchen" should be the name of her new cooking show - she did an awesome job, C-Milk! 😁👍🏽
domino kanin stop spreading lies you troll. xD
She's so pretty and funny....she could have her own cooking show.
Okay, so I'm low key in love with different Chinese broths and soups... So good!!
It's funny because in the market Vivi was acting humble by saying she's not a chef, she's just an average housewife and then we saw another side of her when she said SAVAGE
Great video, informative and entertaining. I especially liked the Explanation about the differences between Chinese and Japanese soy sauce. I try to make my food as authentic to original sources as I can. 🥰👏👏
That part when Vivi said "Savage" cracked me up. lol

the daughter is SOO CUTE! she came back from seconds!!
first time watching one of your vids and it was wonderful, thoroughly enjoyed it, and the little one was so cute. thank you
Great fun video. Thanks for a peek into Chinese culture. She's totally right about the broth. I make bone broth all the time. Put the bones in a crock pot, cover with water, add a tablespoon of cider vinegar and cook on low for 3 days. That little bit of cider vinegar draws all the nutrients out of the bones. I do beef bones (gotta be grass-fed) and chicken bones. When you do chicken bones they come out very flexible like rubber because all the calcium and collagen has been leached out into the broth. Bone broth is one of the healthiest things you can drink.
"It is already dead" *Holds it down as it flails*

I don't know how I got here but that meal looks AMAZING!
Peabrain same. I just ended up here randomly and now I am hungry...

This is more than an average chinese home cook meal. I am from Hong Kong and so is my wife. Watching this I realise I've got a raw deal. C-Milk you are lucky man. Vivi is a terrific cook with a bubly personaility. She should start her cooking channel.
Vivi I love your personality, you have a beautiful family! You taught me something new today. I honestly was looking for a few selections off of the buffet bar. And the way you cook that broth is similar to how we cook collard greens in the American South. We don't eat the meat but it seasons the vegetables or beans in the pot! 😁
Hands down, your best video yet. Thank you both for sharing this. Just awesome.
The eyes pop out so its definitely cooked 😂😂😂😂😂
yeah it turns darker and darke...I like girls like she is :D

Babish wont know what's hit him.
Probably the fish hit him before being put in the steamer :P
Haha bro your girlfriend / wife is a legend! So funny. Thanks for sharing this mate
Chinese cooking uses cooking wine a lot. It helps to decrease the smell of fish, smell and taste of the blood, etc... Also, when you stir-fry the egg, adding a little bit of cooking wine helps it to get fluffy as the wine evaporates during the process.
German Kitchen is not far away from that. We are also huge Soup and Stew People. I have a frozen chicken that I will make a soup of soon and I am gonna discard most of it, just cherry picking some nice looking meat from the chest and thighs.
Fried Potatoes (Bratkartoffeln) are usually made with leftover cooked potatoes from the day before, so it is quite similar to the fried rice thing Vivi mentioned.
I just love Vivi! Not only is she beautiful, but she’s got an awesome personality. “Savage”!! 😂 Too funny.
yes.!
Really enjoyed watching your videos, food looks lovely plus interesting to learn about chinese food well done Viv 😀
Vivien, you give so much wisdom for coming home-based Chinese meals! Thank you!
5:45 actually what you're washing off are the starches. For most long grain rice like jasmine or basmati, you wanna give it a good long rinse because doing that will give it a much fluffier end result, which makes it easier to fry afterwards. ;)
Omg "Savage!" LMAO that was epic!
This episode was just so sweet that it made me smile.
Fascinated & What great tips. Thanx so much.

Awesome, I would eat that meal at least five times a week and love it.
Fresh ingredients make all the difference.
I think this might be one of the best videos done on this channel.
This is one of the BEST cooking videos right now!
She is Awesome!
Her English is so much better, just watched older videos before this, very nice improvement, very good now. Best part 6:35 :D So lucky to have markets like that, even in Europe it's all kind of going away or is crazy expensive, everyone shopping in the bigger chain markets because of lower costs but quality is worse. Vegetables prices are nuts.
All you 3 in the family so so adorable..💖💝
Thanks for sharing..
Be great if you did a whole series like this I love this
Shouldn't this be in Vivienne's channel? I think so! I learned something with the alcohol and vinegar. Great video.
