The way the brother talked about his sister is saddening & seeing how sad his aged parents are is heart wrenching. I sincerely hope they can find closure & seek justice for the sister. The auntie is definitely suspicious for telling them that the body is behind the temple, she probably witnessed something but isn’t divulging them…

Watching true crime cases where the family gave their consent and actively participated in the documentary are actually comforting for me. I feel less alone in the world, that there are people like us who have been thru the same thing, who are still experiencing deep pain and sorrow over the tragedy that happened no matter how long it’s been. It’s teaching me that it’s ok to not be ok and it’s giving me courage to fight tooth and nail, to give every last bit of strength to fight for justice even if there’s only 0.00000001% chance of winning against the criminals who possess massive wealth and power.

What scares me is that the perpetrator who got away with the horrific rape and murder of this sweet little girl, would have gone on to continue his assaults on young girls. I am not sure what is the Data storage like in the Police force or the Census records of more than 4 decades ago. Is it possible, I wonder, to get the male census records who lived in the kampong around this time period and then look them up against the SPF crime database to see if anyone had a criminal record after 1980? Particularly one that involved rapes/molestation etc?

5:25 Why would the auntie at the titbit shop direct searchers to such an unlikely place (the temple) to search for this little girl? Titbit shop was possibly the last place this girl was seen alive and someone in the very shop directed everyone to the exact place where her body was found. 🤔 If she was sexually assaulted, weren't trace/physical evidence samples collected and a rape kit used? Granted back in 1980 there was no DNA technology but investigators in the US were already collecting physical and trace evidence in that era - and cold cases were solved decades later with DNA when technology finally caught up. Feels like a combination of shoddy investigative work and lack of due processes that resulted in this longstanding unsolved crime.
Rest in peace dear little Beng Choo, you're among the angels now and I hope your loved ones find solace in knowing that.

Well raised point here! I just watched the whole thing and wondered how the titbit shop auntie direct everyone to the temple? hmm but like what was said that it was a planned murder, I don't think so! I think the killer took advantage of a little girl wandering alone, in the dark (CC lights off that night) around the vicinity of the temple (its not occupied unless got some event). I believe if they can trace back to the government census on that kampong to fact check who had lived in that kampong around that time, could find possible leads!

@@sanjay8854 Her brother was right, she was unlikely to leave with a person she didn't know. So it's possible whoever took her, knew her and she trusted that person enough to leave the titbit shop with the perpetrator. If she were abducted, there would've been witnesses and some kind of commotion. In any case, there is too little information in this episode to speculate beyond this point. And knowing who lived in the area back then is pointless unless investigators possess evidence that will allow them to pinpoint the identity of the rapist/murderer. (They probably used the word "planned murder" loosely to express the perpetrator probably knew the victim and followed her in some way with intent to rape. It's def premeditated in this sense.)

@@sanjay8854 There would've been DNA samples of the perpetrator found under her fingernails from defending herself. Or maybe, if her wounds were swabbed and clothing well preserved, even if the killer is now dead - there is technology today that allows forensic scientists to trace back DNA profiles using family trees. Cold cases from 1950s have been solved with DNA, much less 1980. I'm just not sure given the standard of investigative work back then, how well preserved samples would've been. Even today, children below 10 or 11 should never be allowed out of their parents' or caretakers' sight. It simply isn't safe and they are too young to defend themselves. We've always lived in times of monsters. Be it 1900, 1950, 1980 or 2020.

As according to many of the comments in the comment section made, the case is being handled pretty much unprofessional. Not invalidating the efforts of those who helped and especially the police force but the tidbit shop owner(s) was/were really the key "witnesses" of the case since they were likely the last person to be in contact with the little girl. Also the tidbit store was just opposite the house, sure they would have observed if the girl was on her way home or was there someone who approached her and talked to her. Also when did the little girl left the store? These were not being asked, at least not mentioned in the interview (in the video). Also regarding the comments saying how the tidbits store auntie is suspicious for the mention to check the temple, it could just be a guess since the video mentioned that the temple is pretty much abandoned and unused, only for celebrations. And the search has taken place for around an hour by a group of people at the Kampong so it is likely the whole of it has been searched and the auntie probably thought about the temple to be the last place possible. But there is definitely things the auntie would have noticed since it was late at night it would have been quiet, any sounds observed (such as the murderer talking to the girl) would have been heard. Even if its someone who the victim know, the murderer would have said something for her to follow them. Was that not being heard? Also the DNAs yes, there must be some DNAs collected at the scene and maybe on her body? PS: Can I just mention how cases with someone the victims know getting killed by them are so heartbreaking? It is someone who trust you, how could they bear to?

It's sad to see a young girl never get to grow up to live her life ,after watching many shows on crime investigation from abroad,my initial thoughts on this case was ,since this happened in a small village where everyone knew each other , I think the murder suspect could be easily narrow down to a young male suspect aged between 15 to 35,he might have an accomplice at the time of crime, was probably around the area near the tibits shop when he saw the victim alone and he/they could tried to gain the trust of the victim to make her followed him , he could at the same time lived very near to the temple area which means after committing the crime ,he/they could have fled the opposite direction, thus avoiding the titbit shop. The murderer might also have been someone who knows the girl very well, and was very close to her personally, and since it's an unsolved murder case ,that could have given him some guts to commit the crime again which mean he could have became a sex offender or might have a criminal record in other crimes in the later years, and lastly he could have returned to the crime scene after the body was found and pretending into asking around people what actually happened when the police arrived so it's could be easy to narrow down as to who was present at the crime scene back then, the suspect will also be extremely concerned about the case to the point he would constantly talked about the murder case personally to someone close to him in the family.

I like to watch unsolved cases but this one is a little choppy. I feel like information are missing here and there. Understandably, it's 42 years ago.
So, Serene said she heard someone shouting that they found the body behind the temple. There's also the tidbit auntie seller who told the brother and father to look at the temple. The father was the first one to find the body. I would assume the father being the one who shouted or screamed, which was why the brother (and others) ran over. Therefore, the one who is sus right now, to me, is the tidbit auntie seller. How did she know to check the temple? Did she suspect someone? Did she witness someone approaching the sister? Did she see the sister walking towards the temple? Technically, she was the last person who saw her alive. Question is, did the police grill her? Cos that would be the first person I would question.

What is a bit irretating is that they don’t show the whole map & how long it would take to walk, like you said if semen was found & collected & explain how she died, how did he kill her, was the sexual penetration from an adult male what punctured her organ? And how long had she been dead & when is the last time the aunt saw her specifically and can auntie see the temple from there? Personally I think she heard something bc it was dark & she suggested the place she thought she heard sound from….and maybe she was frozen seeing that she might could have saved her if she actually heard or saw her…..was the temple a place were women/girls had been sexually harassed for privacy?
Also a temple for celebration ,some killers raping & killing put blankets or put them in places for them to be found, bc they care for their victims as sick & contradicting as that sound (like jon benet Ramsay case)
Also, how long would it take for her to die & was there any water on her, a struggle, her being held down?
Did she know some older teen boys she would trust ?
Was the killer in the search team like the teen that was raped for hours where the Tokio Hotel song had played for 6hrs as she was alone at home & not to hear her. We need a full list of the search team ! How long could the killer have raped her & avoided not being caught? Did her brother tell someone where his sister was & was this a normal thing for them to go out late & be seperated for some time?
What would make this girl go to the temple (if not guided there) ? I know rain is a typical thing, but I assume it was just dark and what with stop her from meeting her brother & eating the snacks, the only way I can think is that she thought someone needed help or heard something & wanted to discover what it was OR it was a person she in particular looked up to or the neighborhood or specifically her family looked up to/respected…had more money/a specific job etc
Does any of this info exist?was her body still warm & her colour normal, I assume she was lifeless but not stiff yet, also why would the father pick her up & ruin the crime scene? Was it visible that it was sexual assault when they found her ,like her dress up or pants down or blood from her region ?

It's an opportunistic crime. Not pre-planned as suggested that the perpetrator knew the day and time the CC lights would be turned off and the place would be dark. The little girl's going out to buy titbits was not pre-planned as it was decided at the spur of the moment.
My guess is that it is someone who lived along the route she took from her house to the titbit shop. It was a chance opportunity and he decided at that moment to attack her, given the conducive environment. Did the police interview every male living there and within sight of the route she took. Story only mentioned 1. Kind of slipshod police job if that was the case.
2nd possibility, someone going in or out of the village at that time chanced upon her and decided at the spur of the moment to attack her, also given the opportunity that she was alone and the environment was conducive. I wondered if the titbit shop Aunty saw him and possibly knew what he did to the little girl. Being able to pinpoint the exact location should raise some red flags. Wonder if the police grilled her enough. I wonder also whether the police check the movement of all males who would usually go in or out of there on a regular basis at that time of the day.
I also wonder if DNA material were collected and preserved as this is an unsolved police case. If they are then running a DNA test should quickly lead to the perpetrator.
This from someone who watches a lot of Cold Case Files on CZcams.
