Yep Not "Fan Friday" this time, the day switched. You may as well call it "Switch-zerland" Uh-HEHEHHE!! (Joke submitted by Kelechi on Twitter) Also My mom guest stars and you get a RARE glimpse into her ART work! What do you think of it?
Marcos for president
Call it “fan Saturday” when it’s on Saturday or any other day than Friday.
Ee
Oh god no
Hello
Barbs mum is the best. And her Art looks awesome.
Yea ikr
“We don’t have time to into each of them (cantons).”
So… Filler Week material?
Oh yes please
Yes, please...
Ach JA bitte
I agree. I been asking Geography Now to request it for years.

6:27 So funny how Paul laughed after he said Nauru, because "nauru" in Finnish means "a laugh".
That's some deep meanings
Interesting! Laugh in Telugu (an Indian language) is very similar... Navvu
@@HarithaMalladi Lol 💯
we need to ask barbs if that was intentional
this is the third flag/fan friday to not come out on a friday. First was Japan (Sunday), then Sao Tome e Principe (Thursday)
this isnt a flag friday though, look at the title. I think hes switching it up
@@sliced_bread_ same deal. Japan was a flag Sunday
So next one could be on Monday or Wednesday
I love halberds too. Discovered them in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow. My main toon in World of WarCraft was a Human Paladin named Halberdier.
Hey Barbs, not an issue at all if you mispeld my name, when I was living in Moscow the russian were mispelling all the time, they could mispel also Teo, wich is just three letters, I am used to it and it is so cute to have one more variation. Thank you again for having me in the episode, I hope that ticinan guys appreciated my description of how they sound.
🙏🏻🙏🏻
Everytime I see your mother my hearth melt. Keep her close lad she is YOUR gem.
That Napoleon flag is one of the most horrendous things I've ever seen, flag-wise.
Lol why it's perfect
@@ommsterlitz1805 leave
Yeah it's not great (namely the text)
It reminds me of a kurdish flag, lol
@@ommsterlitz1805 no. It's disgusting. The colors don't match.
2:54 People from outside: What do we call you?
Greeks: Whats wrong with Helvetians?
On that image of the ceiling with all the cantons you missed something off to the bottom. The canton of Jura was founded in 1978, well after the Bundeshaus was built, so they added it off to the side with it’s founding date. All coat of arms also surround the building under the roof, and there the Jura one was placed in the corner.
Your mum is a very good at painting and drawing! If you and any number of your friends ever come to northern Finland again, it would be my honor to host you for any number of days you wish. Been a fan many years.
I just became fan of BarbsMum right after 7:15 her reaction ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 너무 귀여우세요!!!
Paul is the only person i know who openly admits he likes british food. 😂
The sports section should’ve included ice hockey and football (soccer). They are quite good at both and especially the Swiss hockey league is one of the best in Europe.
yeah, i'm a little disappointed they didnt even mention football. its the most popular sport here
Agreed, football (soccer) is huge. Also, I'm surprised Nico Hischier wasn't mentioned considering he's the only Swiss hockey player to ever been drafted #1 overall into the NHL
@a More like Albania is Switzerlands 2nd team. It's where you learn to play not your heritage that counts.
kinda surprised they didnt mention, especially considering they beat France in the euros this summer, thats a big flipping deal and they've got some really incredible hockey talent like Nico Hischier, Timo Meier, Roman Josi, and Kevin Fiala (I'm a really big hockey and soccer nerd lmao). Also, I Love what Yann Sommer did at the Euros, incredible GK
Paul's mom is so talented, holy moly.
Im just so impressed, everything in the episode was so true to my experience in Switzerland. Nice job!
Oh my - what a seriously feel good video this is 😍 Love your mum and the energy and chemistry you two have between you. Made my day 😊
Hey, Barbs. For the next Filler Week video, you should definitely explain the cantons of Switzerland. Can you please do that?
0:44 The Netherlands is exactly the same in this regard. There is no universal healthcare, everyone is required by law to have private insurance, but it's heavily regulated, and if you're poor, it's also heavily subsidized. When I was a student, insurance cost €39 a month.
Well, it is UNIVERSAL if EVERYONE is allowed to have insurance and the poor are paid to have one.
The insurances/services are just not public, but are heavily regulated. It's called the Bismarck model, applied in many countries really.
Meanwhile, the system where the service is directly provided by the government is called the Beveridge model, applied widely too.
And this is a simplification, these 2 actually exist in a spectrum, more so than as a hard distinction, existing countries whose system mix aspects of both.
Switzerland has a stronger private presence than in the Netherlands, for example.
Both models are universal health models though, as they assure everybody is covered, regardless of income.
The US uses a out-of-pocket/free-market model, where people have to manage if and how they want to be covered individually :/ And prices vary according to supply/demand laws.
When I was a student in Switzerland it was CHF 165 a month for the most basic version. Now I pay double for the same service level (I'm even required to see one predefined house doctor if not in emergency) and pay yearly to get a 3% discount.
Opening mail with mom is the best.
Bahhhhbs, I cannot wait for the UK episode, I have watched almost all your episodes and am sooooo excited to help with UK, greetings from Gloucestershire!

@@Sh4d891 but if your country is so neutral then why Swiss government recognize self declared kosovo?
Here's a hint about both flag and name: Battle of Dornach.
This is the battle that gave Switzerland its unofficial name "Schweiz"
Thanks for touring us the world! Keep it up.
Hey @GeographyNow! This is Jay, the person who sent you the "Atlas of Extinct Countries" book a few years ago. I'm just brainstorming in general, but I had few ideas of suggestions for places you might like to travel in the future. But I second the idea of visiting Nauru, that would be a very interesting experience!
1. St Pierre and Miquelon
2. Pitcarin Island
3. Norfold Island (Australia), Christmas Island, Cocos and Keeling Islands
4. St. Helena, Tristan da Cunha, or Ascension Island
5. Mexican Islands of the Pacific Coast-might be doable given your location.
6. Channel Islands in California (you could do a day trip) + Tongva Native American areas in Southern California
7. Channel Islands, UK + Isle of Man
8. Tonga
9. Trinidad and Tobago
10. Islands of Insular Chile
11. Bermuda
12. Tuvalu
You should do a filler week on the cantons of Switzerland.
One info Paul, for all shopping lovers, Geneva is literally one of the best shopping destinations in Europe it’s up there with the legends of Paris and Milan
and zurich too if you going to Bahnhofstrasse (one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world)
I enjoy all your episodes!
Love your videos btw Happy Halloween Geography Now team!🎃

your mom s sooo sweet ☺☺🥰
The Canton flag is pretty interesting. Yes indeed.
last time I was this early, you didn't even have a separate fan/flag friday
“MY MOM!”
Muscle Man: *sniff*
Jean-Pierre Fux is from Aargau!
Paul, I dont understand when you say, "I didnt have time for..." in your own video! We love you, we love what you do, we love the information you provide...wtf!!! make it as long as you need to! damn! but we also love Flag Friday - which is the next episode of a cliffhanger Wednesday episode or more of you! if you have to make the really interesting countries 45 mins or an hour or two! we will watch it!

0:28 THIIIIIIIIISSSSS!!! My bro went to Switzerland with his friend and somehow got a speeding ticket that took him a long time to correct (and this was during the start of the pandemic).
well....there are speed limits for a reason👀
Nice Littmann stethoscope when showing the health care!
Love Geography Now!!!
Talking about the flag... I remember UEFA Euro 2008 in Austria and Switzerland.
The official styling for the flags of the countries involved in the tournament was circle. Basically the host countries have a white minus and a white plus on a red background for their flag, respectively.
you know who *else* likes geography?
MY MOM
actually we love the dates and times. History is awesome
1:05 : Not for hamsters, they are strictly solitary, rhey would kill each other. But for sociables animals like rabbits, rats, mouse, parakeet, birds, guinea pigs, and so on, yes you mist have at least 2 of them in Swiss Laws.
Fun fact: Piz Gloria up in the mountains besides it being a restaurant is also home to the James Bond museum.
Speeding tickets are not generally based off of your income. Up to a certain speed tickets are just fixed amounts(Busse). But above a certain speed over the limit you get a criminal charge(Anzeige) in which case the Punishment is set individually for what you would earn for an amount of time(Geldstrafe). But to get charged you really have to go pretty fast so they don't evaluate your income every time they catch you with 5 above the limit.
Thailand and Vietnam are awsome I've never been there but I hear their awesome!!!
Really liking the beard, mate.
always cute when mom stops in
4:29 Muscle Man reference lol I love it
Can’t wait for the wales episode
I enjoy watching you're video's, you need to do one for the Chamorro's of the Mariana Islands. 🇲🇵
Speaking as someone whose relatives keep sheep, that Schaffhausen coat of arms is anatomically accurate.
CZcamsrs: make fan mail videos alone
Geography Now: bring normal people over for videos

Heh, Muscle Man from Regular Show, how could I forget, you said that Quintel was one of your favourite animators
yay
One thing I noticed was the lack of gardens. And houses built on mountain precipices. Two things I noticed was the lack of gardens, houses built on mountain precipice and station platforms that served a single dwelling. Amongst the things I noticed.............
I don't know a lot of advantages of living in Switzerland but the flag is a big plus!
Hey Barbs! Can you drop a link for the MSF coloring book? I'd get one for my mom for Christmas (she loves them!)
amazing
"ill just fly to switzerland to make this video.."

1:20 fun fact, "Gewalthaufen" translates to "violence pile"
Was that an attempt at a First of October reference? *THAT'S MY MOM*
...bringing books to all the grade 4s
4:28 Reference: Muscle Man from Regular Show
It's actually cheaper to buy a house than to rent it in switzerland. We just don't pay off the mortgage. We just pay the interest on the mortgage because it's really low, like a percent or less. You often end up paying less than half in interest of what you would have paid in rent. It's kind of like renting, except you have a huge safety deposit :P
Anyway, great episode, I like that you mentioned the cantons, it's a pretty big deal here, so much so that we have a name for it: "kantöndli geist" or canton spirit in english.
Cheers
Switzerland IS really smart country Love from Bosnia 🇧🇦🤝🇨🇭
4:28 Definitely Muscle Man from Regular Show
Jean-Pierre Fux is from Aargau!
Hahahahaha. Barbs got the "mom slap". Idk one person who didn't get that playful smack as a kid.
i think you didn’t mention how good the public transport is enough
omg I am so much waiting for Syria :D good luck with that
super wird !
the canton Bern ( and many others) had there own armys till 2003!
Those military units were integrated into the swiss army and should defend there cantons in case of a civil war.

Hamsters are solitary animals, you don't have to buy them in pairs. In fact if you buy two you need to separate them if they start fighting...

WOW DUUUUDE IS THAT A REGULAR SHOW'S REFERENCE?

barbs saying "my mom!!" like muscle man really made this vid so much better
Also interested to see if you do a Taiwan episode...
Me and Switzerland don't get on I have been twice and twice had a not great experience. The first time, Geneva (2003, I was 14), I was ill that day so it's kinda a blur but I remember everything just being so expensive and the money exchange stuff and like every store was like a watch shop and there just wasn't anything for a 14-year-old, oh wow it's a jet of water on a lake ZZZZZZ. The second time I had drove down from Germany (2012, 23) to see the Rhine Falls. But it was dusk in winter so we couldn't really see it well so we walked all the way over to the waterfall to get a better look and then walked all the way back... and then they turned the lights on. Then we had no idea how to get a permit to drive on the highways or who to pay to use the tollways so we could get to our accommodation in Austria (Lech), So... we had to drive back into Germany and make our way the long way reached Lech at 2 am, I was exhausted from driving all that way in snowfall and I was grumpy the whole time I was there. I just get bad luck in Switzerland...
The Red Cross was created by a Swiss guy who used the Swiss Flag as inspiration. I think he was a doctor during WW1 or WW2
That's right. His name was Henry Dunant 😊
Good morning for everbory
Flags: If you invert the Swiss flag you get the Red Cross. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) was founded in 1863 in Geneva, Switzerland, by Henry Dunant and Gustave Moynier. This comitee consists of up to 25 Swiss people.
And fun fact: In some parts of Germany 'Schweizer' (= Swiss) was also a job title for a chief milker until some decades ago. This Schweizer could be from e.g. Saxony - nonetheless he was called the Schweizer, and a job advertisement could literally translate to 'Swiss wanted'.
Missing out the Red Cross is a huge oversight.
Btw, because the Swiss and the Red Cross flag were so often used for 1st aid / hospitals etc, the official 1st aid logo is a white cross on green ground.
Hey Barb, I just wonder if u can make video about a coat of arm from ur old video.
Sorry for broken English hope u understand.
Hugs from Geneva, Switzerland ! Well, there are some difference between the swiss german dialects
It seems to me that the biggest difference is in the diphthongs.
When learning Hochdeutsch I realized that the second vowel sounds like the English version of that letter.
Z.B Bei ( sounds like English i) and wie ( sounds like English e)
In swiss it is switched to the first vowel wie ( sounds like English i)
My god... That's a great stache
Love Switzerland from Armenia 🇦🇲♥️🇨🇭

The swiss health insurance system just sounds like Obamacare
Obamacare could have been great I believe, but what it ended up to be is not what it was planed as.
