  • HAPPY 20TH ANNIVERSARY, COWBOY BEBOP!! ❤
    Our live cover of "Tank!" by Yoko Kanno, performed live at Liberty City Anime Con on August 19, 2018. Originally performed by The Seatbelts, and heard as the opening theme to Cowboy Bebop. This arrangement by Khrys Williams.
    WOOO! It feels great to finally share this with you all! This is truly one of the greatest anime openings ever, and among the reasons why it stands the test of time, here's one: Jazz is timeless! You dig?
    We apologize for the audio quality, but we just had to share this moment in whatever way possible from what may have been our favorite show up to this point (and our favorite LCAC show after 3 years here!). We hope to do more convention shows in the future! You all are our community, and we can't think of a better place to share all this otaku-jazz love than at a good ol' anime con! Much love and thanks from all of us to all of you, as always.

    The fact that you hit EVERY. SINGLE NOTE. of the sax solo, like EXACTLY as it is in the original, is 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
    I watched another band play it, and yes, although the idea is to "freestyle" that part (which is what the other guy in the other band did), I can ESPECIALLY appreciate the original solo for that part, I feel like it sounds strange to do it any other way. So thanks for staying true to the original sound as it pertains to that part. 👍🏻
    I feel like the only person who could outdo that solo, is the actual original soloist himself. I did watch an instance where he did it live and although it was not the original recorded freestyle, he somehow managed to make it even better than before.
    The others who do this piece besides the band above will just lazily play the same riffs over and over and not really put effort into the freestyle part which is what makes it sound "wrong" when they do it or distateful. Gotta have a little soul to get it right. Otherwise, better to just stick to the original solo like these guys did. Im glad you guys did. 🙇🏽‍♀️

      I'm guessing Darius is trying to get at "Put the swag in Jazz
      " or "Put the melodic in Metal".
      I kinda agree with the melodic in metal, because of the number of musicians that play, incorporate Metal into the Japanese bluesy(?) melody,
      but I would guess that metal fans wouldn't want to see it that way.
      Swag into Jazz... from at least what I know there's not too many Jazz musicians to claim the swag in Jazz quote, although I agree that there are many Japanese music in many different genres that I feel that are heavily influenced by Jazz than the music we have in the western world especially in the modern era.
      I dunno, that's just my view so...

    • @togelz
      @togelz Před 5 lety +13

      @@nettoyante2074 hello there, the reason why i say about Japanese musician puts melodic in Metal because there are a bunch of Japanese metal band / singer which their music are so melodic, such as Jupiter, Unlucky Morpheus, Light Bringer, Tears of tragedy, Baby Metal etc compared to your usual american metal band with your usual open E power chords and / or minor pentatonic scale
      and the reason why i say Japanese musician puts swag in jazz is because not only because the music is great, but also because through various medias like anime or game, they helps introduce / re-introduce jazz to younger generation and makes it cool for them, makes them want to learn it, i think that's happen not only in jazz, but also classical music as well, i won't surprised at all if a youngster says that he / she started to love Jazz because of Cowboy Bebob or Barracano and love claasical because of Shigatsu wa Kimi no uso (your lie in April)

    • @nettoyante2074
      @nettoyante2074 Před 5 lety +2

      @@togelz I personally agree with your comment on melodic in Metal, as I am a fan of Black Mages and the great game music that they create with the mix of metal, classical and fantasy. (Not so much of Baby Metal, I love the music, not so much the vocals and the young children dancing.) I think metal has evolved and has had a long lasting popularity within the Japanese music scene, so I really do agree with you. However, that being said, I do think that American and European Metal fans would be angry if we said that Japanese composers have put the melodic in metal, and that's all I wanted to say in the above comment.
      In terms of Jazz, I think Japan still has a long way to go. So Yes, I agree that the Japanese composers incorporate Jazz and spread them in various medias that younger generations will learn to may be start to love Jazz from. But No, because from what I have seen, majority of the Japanese audience has Jazz, Ska and Bossa Nova confused.
      (Jazz was very popular during my parent's generations, so I think the older generations are aware of the difference and are actually fans of Jazz, but in terms of the younger generations, we have a long way to go.)
      There are new animes like Kemono Friends 1 and 2, which the music is composed by an artist who is Jazz influenced, so I'm sure many things are changing in the Japanese music scene on a daily basis. And hopefully one day, we can proudly say that Japanese composers have put the swag in Jazz, but at this point I would sadly have to disagree with you on that part.
      I think you have the Japanese culture slightly confused, but in terms of classical music, Japanese children have far more knowledge of classical music than children in... let's say North America, because Europe is a whole another story when it comes to classical. But from what I have seen, Japanese people recognize and know the names of various classical compositions, when compared to North Americans.
      Most Japanese children do not go into classical music through Anime, it's more from the education system and from after school programs.
      (Piano ranks in the top 3 most popular after school learning for young children)
      I'm certain that many children would be inspired and learn to love classical music from Animes like Shigatsu wa Kimi no uso, or Nodame Cantabile, but that's not really their entry point to classic music, as most children already have the basics down.
      Anyways, I apologize for the long response, but I just want you to know that I do love your quote, I just can't fully agree with you on everything that you said.
      Thanks

    dad, what was your favourite kind of music when you were a kid?
    well, son, they had a little show called cowboy bebop, and the opening song for it was amazing. what was even more amazing was how a ban called J- music played the song live and absolutely KILLED it. The effort shown and the passion they all had made this one of my favourite songs when I was a kid.

    Major props to everyone but especially the sax for nailing it better than everyone else, and also to that front trumpets who is certainly giving 120% for this performance

    This had me smilling ear to ear like a goofball the whole way through. That was amazing from start to finish and the sax player absolutely nailed the ending. Perfect 10/10!

    Honestly? Honestly?
    Better than the original studio recording for the anime.
    I generally dislike live renditions of anything over studio recordings. But this one blew me away. You did a great job guys!

      That's a hefty comment, thank you for thinking that! Of course, all hail Yoko Kanno for even providing our community with a vehicle to make this experience possible!

    Freaking nailed the tone on that final alto sax staccato section at the end!
