Anyone in here dissing this man obviously has no clue about real hip hop and the contributions and influence this man has made! 45king is Your favorite dj's favororite dj! His mastery over rare breaks and samples is unmatched! I read someone say he should be using vinyl? Yo, the man's name isn't the 45 king for nothing! In all reality who the hell is carrying crates anymore? People kill me with that bs knowing you couldn't touch this man's music knowledge on his worst day or your best! Peace and much respect to DJ Mark the 45 king from dirty jerz! Thank you, I'm 40 w/o and your music is part of the soundtrack of my life! You, jmj, jazzy Jeff, grand wiz, dst, (and my pop) and several other djs made me wanna become a dj which led me into sampling, which opened up my appreciation for several different types of music just by digging in them crates! Peace and bless Mark the 45king and flavor unit!
I'm thankful for the soul of this Brother who made me want a pair of 12's and a mixer to imitate what I saw him do. He is the reason why I still dig to this day for undiscovered treasures and so many overlooked musicians. May the family unite and his legacy illuminate the possibilities within younger ears, hearts and minds. Give the DJ some!!!!!
holy shit he does! that is awesome! he deserves the recognition...he is a very entertaining dj. i didnt even hear of the guy until i started spinning myself being from canada(we dont hear him on the radio here)..i have much respect and i personally love the guys work!!
This performance just made me aware of how a hip hop music production in its original form cannot be separated from DJing and record collecting. People outside of hip hop will say that hip hop producers are lazy just looping beats, but really all hip hop music is, is a DJ showcasing his finest diggings
This man was a Legend and if knew or not he helped usher in the sound of Hip-Hop that we all know and fell in love with.He is now up there with J.Dilla,Megatron,Jam Master Jay,and The Legends of Hip-Hop now having that Big Jam Session on the otherside.Your Contributions will never be fully appreciated enough and your music will live on forever 💙 ❤️.Thank you for the sounds that you brought in that will continue to influence people for generations to come and most importantly ❤️ Thank you for the memories and for being you.❤❤❤
for all you youngins and wanna bees...this is how hip hop was done in the beginning !!! he just used a lil advanced technology...but the tracks and style is very old school...about half wasy through he really went in on them with the b-boy break beats...only tri-state area people now about style...he did an excellent job of keeping it hip hop...2 turntables and a microphone is how it all began...and this is how the dj's rocked...Props to ya Mark !!!
If it wasn't for djs and producers like this, hip hop would of died with in 5 yrs,but luckily we have so many hip hop classics, thank you mark 45 king.peace.
Id like to see anyone do what 45 King has done in their career ? He was a J Dilla or Madlib in his time. This set is a music lesson on its own . These days dj's come with pre recorded sets without a turntable in sight. 45 King. Music royalty for real.
+craig native Hey! Do not discredit those without turntable! I use a little controller but I try to keep it real! no pre recorded and no auto-sync and mixing old school, underground and fine hip hop, funk, soul and disco! :D
yeah I was saving money to get a pair of technics and all the stuff to make it work with digital but problems here, problems there... good bye savings and that's why I got a controller, but it's ok I will scratch on vinyl someday! :D
+craig native Truth. I guess nowadays loads of DJs with talent sooner or later start making this modern meta-shit music invented by psychologists, sociologists or marketing people to make as much money in as short time as possible. In that case who will take the effort and push a crate with him if it doesn't make you more money and most people won't even notice the difference. That's why I loved this set instantly - 54yo and you still sound real man, pure skill! That's the long forgotten art of making beats that reminds the standards back in the days. Word up from Europe to Mark and all them fans of real hip hop music
Love all these "expert" opinions on here... people actually trying to qualify or school this DJ of 30 years - a pioneer compared to most. People who don't even realize who this is are all over the page trying to posture that they know more by giving HIM tips or waging war about vinyl versus digital all the while unaware he plays vinyl anytime he wants. It would be a fun world if people didn't open their mouths until they really knew what they were talking about.
+Chris C You missed my point. The people making critical comments are obviously posturing - period. They pose as experts and clearly have no idea who he is - regardless of your opinion of his set. Are you one of them? How long have you been spinning? ;)
R.i.p king you are never 4gotten rock out with angels white turntables n white wings u are legendary we the dj community all around world will rep ur name 4ever we will miss you big unc
this man goes back and forth on the mix like a drum machine. some cats will switch tracks abruptly but have no rhythm about it and are off...he's sonning those 45's (which are in general tough to spin, phsyically) -- comon check out 9:21 - 9:28 -- that was ILLLLLL effortlessly. RESPECT always
this guy has forgot about more music in his lifetime than we can ever imagine and still a crisp classic set.....so why criticize one of the best of all time...he's not 25 years old anymore!!!
Mark was a really good friend of mine. He is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. I met him via Dave Funkenklien rip as well. He would fly out here to Los Angeles and I would pick him up or meet him at his hotel somewhere in Hollywood or Beverly Hills.... RIP Mark 🙏🏾
Dj Mark The 45 King - Please know this mans body of work, i've been listening to this man since the 80's, this man is your favorite Producers favorite Producer, Respect his Legend. I still remember all the local Dj's banging "The 900 Number" at the house parties back in the day. Mark i miss you man, been a long time, forever the best.
Mark is one of the most IN TUNE with the music DJ's I have ever seen. He knows every measure of all these records. A true sensei of music. Had the pleasure of meeting you at SOBs at the end of last year and it was truly an honor. Thank you for signing my Serato record which now proudly hangs on my studio wall. #Salue to the KING
Man! Your transitions are so clean. Love to hear when DJs keep it simple and clean, still showin' true skills but don' t kill the listeners ears. Thx for this and salute king!!!
These comments are too funny. First off, for people who are asking about the tracks, aside from the obvious, and funk break tracks, the hip hop instrumentals are his own tracks. The dude has a ridiculous catalog of beat albums. Two, for clowns who are criticizing his mixing skills, it is like criticizing Grandmaster Flash because he doesn't have the turntablist skill of Q-Bert. Can't tell them nothing. Yougins ... lol, all the world at their fingertips in the form of a cell phone and search engine, but disconnected from their history/past more than ever.
I think I've watched this at least 12 times all the way through. I don't even dj, just apprecitate freaking on point timing, is how life really is when you're living in the moment, confident, real freaking timing man... Peace love and thank you for the beautiful work. Am stoked to experience and share. Pura Vida!
***** yes.... it was an original set done the old school way (playing nothing but breaks)... w/o him fist pumping and jumping like a douche bag or throwing pies in people faces... it was simple and sweet and he was actually DJ'ing.... next!
Ave Mcree I don't know why your even comparing this to Dj's like those EDM hopeless cretins! What person with any taste in music listen's to that shit anyway. I just didn't find this set gave me chills, that's all..
