  • A chemical free or no salt pool seems almost impossible, I have been running mine for months with no issues through the heat of summer with a different type of treatment system. #pool #pooltreatment #chemicalfreepool #abovegroundpool

    UPDATE! 1 Year later and I couldn't be happier, pool stays clear and all I have to do is run my pool robot cleaner. I did just swap out the copper cartridge for the first time at $99. Looks like once a year is all I'll have to do on a changeout. I still don't run chemicals, but you should keep an eye on your PH and TDS as that benefits the system working. I still highly recommend this system, it's so easy to use.

    Thanks for the great video. I’m a water chemist and we have been using silver and copper ionization in the industrial market for 20 years. It certainly works for the nations biggest hospitals. The aeration from the fountain should actually lower your pH slightly, not raise it, by producing a small amount of carbonic acid. But the biggest benefit is the buffering capacity of the carbonic acid cycle vs solely typical hydrochloric acid cycle with no intermediate ion. You’re also using a robot regularly which contributes to your crystal clear water by scrubbing up and filtering the organics before algae has a change to bloom.
    Don’t discount the importance of balanced pH though, aeration and boric acid will certainly help maintain pH, but it’s imperative people check and balance their pH with muratic acid or in very rare cases soda ash. The eye stinging some people get from pools is usually not associated with chlorine but high pH.

    Thank you for putting out this video! I have been using this exact same Power Ionizer unit for 15 years on my 24' above ground pool here in coastal South Carolina and I confirm everything he says is true about it. Maintenance is nil for me other than vacuuming but I have a lot of trees and similar storms in this area but I will be looking into that robotic vac cleaner for sure! I also do not winterize or cover my pool and it stays crystal clear year round.

      @@xq8152 I use 25 lbs for 10,000 gallons. I only add it once. For maintenance, I add a little less than 5 bls every two years due to backwashing. Boric Acid does not evaporate. I buy it from Duda Energy. The water feels softer, and it sparkles. I use less chlorine and less acid. I do not use other chemicals. The ionizer also adds a slight amount of copper, so it acts as a germicide. Before that, I was always having algae blooms.

  • @97minitaco
    @97minitaco Před 10 měsíci +3

    If you use the trouble free pool method, maintenance is super light even with chemicals. We use chlorine, borax (water softener), and baking soda. Our 20x40 in ground (48k gallons) requires about 2 gallons of chlorine per week in the really hot months when we have a lot of rain and almost zero through the winter. Chlorine pucks are bad for pools if you use too many. They add stabilizer which increases your cyanuric acid levels and renders your chlorine useless. I toss a puck in a couple times a summer just to maintain a little CYA, but not much since it doesn't go down. We use a frog in our hot tub. We don't have to balance it at all. We just replace the cartridge once every 3 months and it stays perfectly balanced. No chlorine smell either.

      I have the Power Ionizer on my 30’x54” above ground that we purchased in March of 2023, when we purchased it from the pool store they told us these are not completely self sufficient and it takes the place of the chlorine tablets but we still have to put 2 pounds of shock in our pool weekly and on the initial fill we had to put 2 40 pound bags of salt said it gives the copper and silver something to bind to to create the sanitizer. We run the ionizer 24/7 and usually run it on 4, we opened our pool in April for the 2024 season and have fought it for the last 4 weeks to keep it clear even using chlorinated shock it only stays clear 3-5 days. 2023 we rotated every other week with chlorinated and in-chlorinated shock and never had any issues.

      I never run mine below 5 or 6. You need to set it to 8 and run your pump around the clock for a few days. Use the provided test strips and go back to a lower setting only after you see copper residual on the test strips. Make sure you are cleaning your filters or back flushing. I then run my filter 1 hour a day per 10 degrees. 90 degree temperature, run for 9 hours a day with the ionizer running during that time.

    Hello. So im wondering how i can lower my copper levels on my pool i have an intex 12x30 and put the ionizer you have . Now my copper levels are at 2 ppm. At what levels do you keep your pool? And how often do you run the ionizer? I have sand filter pump and I'm trying to not add any chemicals to my pool. Is it save to swimm in the pool with this much copper? I will really appreciate it your opinions since you have this ionizer and you seem to know alot.

      There is adjustments on the front of the machine, up and down arrows. I typically run mine on 5 or 6. If your levels are high, go to a lower setting and monitor with the test strips. I never monitor mine to be honest, a setting of 5 or 6 running for roughly 9 hours a day is perfect for our 30ft pool. Being round we have a lot more water than you, so your results will vary.

    I have a few questions that maybe you could answer. If you used a tablet dispenser, how is it that you don't have any chemicals? Don't tablet have stabilizer? Did you completely disregard the setup instructions on the ionizer as well as the maintenance instructions? If so, this seems to be a problem as the copper effectiveness is dependent on balanced water chemistry. How are you killing fecal bacteria as copper doesnt kill it? How are you oxidizing bather waste? Copper has a much much lower rate of disinfection compared to chlorine, how are you handling that? I really want to get away from chemicals, but don't see how this will do that reliably? I read the amazon reviews for the linked product and most are still using chlorine regularly. Please help.

    • @TKCL
      @TKCL  Před 10 měsíci

      I am trusting 5 years of my friends experience. She does not add chemicals (chlorine) unless she has a bunch of kids over and has a big party, that's rare. All she has done for 5 years ran a copper ionizer. If you have heavy sunblock usage and potential spoiling of the pool from large activities or gatherings, I'd highly recommend you keep liquid chlorine on hand to hit the pool with after those occasions. I might do the same myself to make me feel a little better. With all that said, the ionizer by itself is keeping my pool algae free and clear during one of the hottest summers on record.
