  • Here it is the final segment and a happy result it is, in my opinion, and that's the one that counts. Only a tone wiring change and installation of new pearl guards offer a more pleasing visual contrast.

    Holy what a difference that pearl pick guard makes eh? Looks great and sounds great with those stock pickups. Usually I find those ceramic bar magnet type pickups to be thin sounding, but these sound big and full. I am surprised you left that box type switch in there haha... thought for sure that would be coming out haha... like my dad always says, if it's not broken don't change it! Great job Mike!

      @2bikemikesguitartopics145  Před 2 lety

      Normally I would have changed the switch if I had 5 blade position in stock but I did not and the one that came in there seem to be a more heavy-duty than the general ones that I get so I left it in for now. some later time I may take it out when I have the standard Fender style switch in stock. I wanted to get this final segment published now.

      @@2bikemikesguitartopics145 I don't know if you remember, but with my first Eart tele, I replaced pickups and all the controls... when my replacement body turned out to be a whole guitar, I moved everything over to the replacement except for the controls. Left the stock ones in there and you know what? No difference at all... the stock puts and switch have been flawless so far. I agree the American stuff is better built, but highly over rated...

    2:22 most likely basswood, paulownia or “phoenix” or some other very fast growing wood. These woods are cheap cuz they grow quickly. And they sound pretty decent.

      Yeah I watched it and I went back to the build. He talks about some kind of a coil emulator which I've never heard of before. But I understand what the length of coil means and somehow he's worked out some nanofarad capacitor values for it. Other than that he's got a 5-way position Mega switch wiring which also has many contacts on it and he doesn't offer any schematic on how he's wired the 5 way position switch

    5:05 Do you have any plans to do anything with the headstock. I like.
    Monopoly guitars one of brace guitars. The only thing I find obnoxious is the headstock that looks like a bird's beak. I don't know who came up with that idea. But everybody I talk to absolutely hates it. So I took a sander to it when I had it off like a tour and they're rounded up more like a thunder under, not exactly but kind of in that shape. And then I just used hung oil on the head sock And you can't even tell. I didn't mean to it. Just a tip if you hate those headstocks too

    • @2bikemikesguitartopics145
      @2bikemikesguitartopics145  Před 5 měsíci

      It seems many people don't like certain head shapes on off-brand guitars from the fender or Gibson but the thing is is that they have to make a difference otherwise they can get sued. I'm okay with headstocks it doesn't really matter to me what they look like as long as they're functional and everything is well finished

  • @BenDover-qb9dm
    @BenDover-qb9dm Před 2 lety

    I'm convinced that these budget after market S-style guitars require specific pickguards. Otherwise, you'll have to adjust it like you see here on this video. You can tell because the holes don't line up.

    • @2bikemikesguitartopics145
      @2bikemikesguitartopics145  Před 2 lety +3

      bung the holes won't line up 99.999% as there is no standard. even on fender, the positioning changes from year to year and whether it was a Mexico or California made unit

    • @2bikemikesguitartopics145
      @2bikemikesguitartopics145  Před rokem +1

      I never use a 47 because I find that there are too dark and when you roll off the tone knob it goes too quickly into the dark zone. I use 22s and 33s depending on what kind of pickup I have which give me more range on the tone pot to get where I want to be.

    Anyone know what size the nut is on this guitar? I ordered a strat nut and it is too short by 1-2mm. If you have a part number etc that would be super helpful.

    • @2bikemikesguitartopics145
      @2bikemikesguitartopics145  Před rokem +1

      If you ordered one that was slightly short it's probably a 42 mm. Check your purchase order to validate and if so you will need to buy a 43 mm

    • @tacobob891
      @tacobob891 Před rokem

      @2bikemike's guitar topics the length 42mm is correct, it's the height that is off. Standard strat nut appears to be around 3 to 4mm tall. The nut of this cali classic is 1-2mm taller.

      Oh yes, that is a common issue with some of the Asian guitars that have nuts in a slot much deeper than a standard Fender setup. I've had to use some brass not switch come typically a little taller than standard Fender bone nuts or tusk. I have also had to make a Sim to go into the nuts lot so that is standard bone Nutwood set taller where I need it.

    I am really surprised, I got mine on Amazon but my Cali haven't a real wood body it is more like plywood and after 3-5 hours of playing it using a guitar strap the upper strap pin just slips out with a lot of plywood dust, y needed to fill the hole with glue and toothpicks to being able to set it again, so I don't know in what depends to get one made of real wood

    • @2bikemikesguitartopics145
      @2bikemikesguitartopics145  Před 2 lety

      I got my 3 Monoprice guitars from amazon also. haven't seen plywood. It could be a very soft species of basswood. there are at least 10 species under the Linden name that might be used. the body on the Starshine I got was one of those really soft bodies, that's why I cut it up to make it a pickup test rig. Thanks for sharing and checking my channel. I appreciate your support

    • @ArturoLR
      @ArturoLR Před 2 lety

      @@2bikemikesguitartopics145 well actually it look like plywood but it is possible that considering it was the only angle I had (the cavity left by the fallen screw) just look as plywood because it seems porous and effectively when I drill into it with my dremel to improve the toothpicks band aid adherence it doesn't give me any resistance so it could be some kind of softwood, (the ocassion that I previously used a dremel on a guitar body was to make a third pickup cavity on an squier tele for a mod project and trust me it makes me sweet plenty, the wood was very solid), right now I just expect that the repair last for a long time 😅
