Why Do the Women Lack Effective Political Power? | Gender and Politics in India

  • The place of women in Indian politics reflects the opportunities and constraints that are
associated with its democracy. Women have been key actors in the numerous social
movements and non-governmental organizations that underlie India's vibrant civil society. Over a million women are represented in the three-tiered panchayats.
Moreover, with the growth of a multi-party system since the early 1990s, political parties have increasingly sought women's electoral support. And yet most women continue to lack effective political power in parties and the state. Women's access to power is still mediated by their relationship to male kin and is often indirect and symbolic. Parties have done little to provide women access to the networks and resources that would enable them to ascend the ranks of party hierarchies.

Politics mein women ki condition ko improve krne ke liye( specially in our country )we have to change our conservative mentality jo ki aaj bhi mahilao ki bhumika ko ghar ki dahlij tk simit krte hain. iski shuruwat ache education system se hi ho skti hai or is education system mein gender equality ,gender politics jaise topics ko include kiya jaye as a part of moral science ,wo bhi bilkul basic se.
And thank you so much for this great knowledgeable video.

In this present scenario, the position of women is not only in the politics but also in the other sectors like social and economical seems to worst performance because of the lack of proper education of the society. Government should focus on the education system especially women education. In my point of view education should not be limited within the paper and pen.
Another challenge is that if women get educated then the most the society will not accept the empowerment of women because of the orthodox beliefs and irrational mentally.
That's why we have to mend individually and to make aware our society.
Government has taken so many policies to empower women but it didn't implement properly because of some of our narrow minded bureaucrats.
If we want to improve our women's position in politics then We have to adopt some proactive work like
From the school level to the university level build and rebuild the capacity of the women which work is not only on the hand of the teacher but also the hand of the family and the society.
In simple statement I would like to say that if We will think," I will empower my own female members of family then it will be inspired to other which will be gradually change the position of women in the all sectors will be improve."
Finally my word is for changing society I have to change myself at first. Which will be accurate the meaning of the human being.🙏🙏
    Jay hind jay bharat 🙏

Just would like to add one more point that we have many educated women, but even if they are educated enough it doesn't guarantee that they will have a place in politics. Indian Politics is still male dominated, even though we have empowered many women through education.
We need to look into the place of women in politics at some point beyond the education.

This question shouldnt be a concern for India. What should matter is whether who receives political power is using it to better India. India is a terrible place by world standards, we need to make sure power is used properly and not worry about some superficial argument about how one gender doesnt get enough "power". Indira Gandhi was an effective dictator for quite some time in India. USA has yet to have a female president in their near 400 year history.
