- As you may know I'm a member of a Facebook group called the Makers of Mixed Media Art and Artist (link below), they host swaps, challenges and other creative activities each month. A very supportive group indeed.
This months theme is #FreshNitUp, I also wanted to combine it with the January colour combo #makerscolourcombojan24 #artyfun.
This is a two part video project where I make background papers and then use them to recycle a washing detergent pod box into useful storage for journal tags and card.
It was a fun project and I loved the arty addition to my storage solutions.

Love watching you do the genius prints.❤❤❤
Thank you so much!
I’ve just come across your channel, and I have so enjoyed watching you create these beautiful pages! I’ll be trying this technique ❤️
You are SO fun! Yes, I love watching your creativity live, and the tools and art that you create. But I was rather surprised to see you using PINK! If I am remembering correctly, you had said at one time that pink was not one of your favs. Thanks again for sharing yourself to us, your fans. ❤
Judy you're right I'm not fond of pink but sometimes you have to embrace it.
The pink is there but just barely lol
These are gorgeous. I have not seen a Gelli plate used in the way that you have used it. Thank you for sharing your talent.
You are so welcome!
I enjoy watching your videos..I would watch you again and again doing a process, just to watch your creative talents.. You are such an encouragement for creativity.. Hope you keep making videos for your fans! You are a blessing to this craft..
Thank you so much!
I just saved this box myself. Just got a Gelli plate for Christmas. I'm going to go one step more and make a ephemera holder journal for my daughters washi stickers she got for Christmas. Very helpful video. Thanks
Sounds great!
I am crazy in love with the effect you got from using that wallpaper piece. This is going to be a fabulous project. TFS. 🥰🙏
Yes, yes, yes!! Me too!
Thank you so much!
I too love these boxes. I covered mine in fabric and are perfect for my craft room. Looking forward using Gelli prints . Thank you for your video .
Wonderful!
Hello dear Ceri, I always enjoy watching you create with the Gelli plate! You explain everything so well. Thank you! I am on to part 2. Have a lovely evening
Hi Ceri
Watched both back to back. Your ephemera boxes with the gel prints came out beautifully ❤❤❤
Glad you like them!
Oh my giddy aunt Ceri!! I've been saving these boxes for a couple of years and covering them, I'm doing a few now! So will now watch the rest of the video/s and see what you come up with! (Lyn)
meeee! watching for the first time! love this process ❤😊
Yay! Thank you Kathy
We don’t mind where you start 😆📘✂️
Beautiful affect and fun too.
😊 thank you
Gorgeous prints!
Super fun to watch the process.
As many times as I've watched you and others do gelli printing, only now have I realized something. Your mentioning subtlety and layering triggered me to make the connection. I don't do any media work that involves liquids because of the mess. It makes my skin crawl. But, I realized from your explanations tonight that while I don't technically do gelli printing, I use the same techniques in electronic form.
I do all my designing within Photoshop. Photoshop uses layers. It even allows the user to create transparent effects on layers. This lets me make backgrounds using different graphics and colors to create a single background image. I begin by selecting the base for my background. It can be floral, abstract, typographic. If I want to, I can add a colored photo filter over it and any other layer I add to the finished image. I have a collection of splatter images, grungy border images and all other sorts of things to help me create my backgrounds. Using these techniques provides me with limitless combinations. And, the great thing about electronic design is there is an erase function. If I don't like a color or design, I just delete it from the image. And, if I'm honest, I enjoy the creation of these backgrounds made up of numerous layers probably more than the other processes I go through.
I cannot believe it took me so long to make the connection between gelli printing and my Photoshop use of layers. But, when you spoke of subtle effects and the buildup of layers, it clicked into place what I was doing. I am a bit of a neat freak so wet media holds no appeal to me. But, the same procedures you go through are the ones I use electronically. I just never know what I'll learn when I watch your videos, Ceri!
That’s wonderful, I also use photoshop but for editing only
I´m so proud of you Ceri. You did put something in the middle. Love this video as always
Thank you so much!!
Although I would not make this box because I wouldn't need it, particularly I'll love watching him. He is an outstanding teacher.
Thank you so much
Thanks for the ideas. Tina, Al's wife
Ahhh Ceri, it wouldn't be any fun or bring smiles if I taste forward you. I enjoy your entire videos too much for that. Have a great evening.
Oh thank you!
Fantastic to watch you do this, its what I am aiming to do today with some pulls that need a little something else doing to them. A pleasure to watch as usual thank you 😊
Looking great so far! On to part 2 now to see how it turns out.
Beautiful pages Ceri! Just the colors I love and always great texture prints from you! 💗💛🤎🖤
Love these xx
I love this idea and the colors are awesome. Thanks for sharing 😊
Great great love it ❤️🤩
That is beautiful!
Thank you!
Mister Ceri, I ALWAYS love watching you make backgrounds. And I know. you'll use them for SOMETHING FAB. It's very cool to see the backgrounds being made and then being used back to back! HUZZAH! Thanks for your artsy insight! Hugs, debC
Glad you like them!
Hello, I loved the way the papers came out...niceeeee...
Beautiful, I love watching you make backgrounds🤩
Yay! Thank you!
Very beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you Dawn
❤❤❤
Your boxes motivated me to start revamping some boxes of various sizes and styles. You have made it look easy but it’s a lot more challenging and takes much longer than it appears. I have 4 in progress.
Having multiple boxes in progress allows time for some to dry while working on others! My biggest challenge is space to work and dry projects!🤔
You can do it!
👏👏👏❤👍
❤
I was surprised how I missed the repeated process on the other pages. It made for a quicker video, but I had enjoyed seeing the slight differences develop through each step and liked comparing them, funny I didn’t even realise the involvement I was having while I watched. Enjoyed watching.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Cool project! You’ve probably been asked this 100 times but as you mentioned in this video there may be some who are viewing your process for the first time (me being one of them so thank you for that!) but how do you store your gel plates and what is that base they are mounted on? I have gel plates but have only used a few times and I’m not very good at it lol. TYFS! ❤️🦋💜
Cindy I think this video should have the answers you’re looking for within it plus other gel printing info, czcams.com/video/rV9Pbkwo5pI/video.htmlsi=V62Enn2ZYVqVPzGo

Thank you Darcy
Hi Ceri, I love the results of your background papers! VERY interesting process of building the layers and textures and then adding the bold black circles; a perfect choice!! To clean the foam stamps, you said you put them in water. Do you soak them just long enough to assure the paint is wet and stamp them off on a paper towel, tissue paper, or do you wipe them clean with a damp cloth, or something else to get the foam and raised stamp clean? Thanks for your guidance on this. Much love, Julia ❤
Julia, I normally lay the stamp face down on a damp cloth if I’m not cleaning it immediately so that the acrylic paint doesn’t dry, when I do wash it I just run it under the tap rubbing it gently with my fingertips, I also find stamping it onto the bottom of my washing up bowl whilst washing it cleans any excess paint from the smaller details, I then stamp it a couple of times onto kitchen paper (the kitchen paper on the roll) and then leave it to fully dry before storage.
@@CeriGriffiths Thank you Ceri! This is very helpful to know as I have many of your foam stamps and stencils. I love your design esthetic and this year is dedicated to playing with all my new art supplies! You’re a gem!!!
💜💜💜 Mr. Ceri, I wanted to let you know that while I only usually leave 3 💜s in the comments, I do that so that you don’t feel obligated to spend precious time answering. But never think that I don’t appreciate what you do by not leaving paragraph comments. 😉
Amy you are being wise with your time, I normally just add a red heart if I’ve read a comment or watched a video.
Is that the green mat that you purchased while you purchased in the USA.. I believe at michaels?? Excited to see what you are making with this..
Yes it was.
Where can I find those gel pads that you put paint on to make those beautiful pages with. I searched gel pads on Amazon but they didn't come up.
Donna if you search gel press or gelli arts you will find them.
Hi dear soul 🎉❤
Hi, Ceri. There isn't a link for part 2😥
I believe that has now been rectified. Thank you
Love the color combination and really love those black circles as the final touch!!! Thanks for sharing 😊
