A Native Perspective on the Buried History of America

  • Most people are unaware that the Declaration of Independence, 30 lines below the statement "all men are created equal" refers to the Native Americans as "merciless Indian savages."
Mark Charles is a dynamic and thought-provoking public speaker, writer, and consultant. The son of an American woman (of Dutch heritage) and a Navajo man, he speaks with insight into the complexities of American history regarding race, culture, and religion in order to help forge a path of healing and conciliation for the nation. Mark is currently working to bring about a national dialogue on race, specifically regarding the Doctrine of Discovery and its influence on the very foundations of our nation; including the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the United States Supreme Court.
Recorded Oct. 13, 2016, in Mayser Gymnasium.

No one has a right to dominate anyone.. All have been gifted life by our creator...
    Such a powerful talk....

Very well presented. I also thoroughly enjoyed his TED talk on "We The People" The three most misunderstood words in the English language. He references much of this same material. If historical accuracy was taught in schools at an early age, we might see future generations with more empathy and understanding towards one another.

I know, about the hardships, or destruction of the Native Americans from the pdf... "The American Holocaust" by Stannard, and the slavery of woman of all races here in "Title Island" or from top of the North, to the south tip of South America.
I know that Columbus, never **founded** America, and was LOOKING for **India,** and that is why the "Natives" are still called, even by themselves.... Indians or India-ns!
So I don't care to understand, and don't see any reason to use any LYING LABEL, placed on anyone who was, and is a NATIVE aboriginal inhabitants, of "Turtle Island," would allow themselves to be called that....LIE! It's like adopting a "LIE" for a name!

  • @hoptownsfinest703

I am using this comment from a wise person
    American Holocaust,
I certify to you that with the help of God we shall powerfully enter your country and shall make War against You in All Ways and All Manners that we can and shall subject You to the yoke and obedience of the Church and their Highnesses. We shall take You and Your Wives and Your Children, and shall make Slaves of Them, and as such shall sale and dispose of them as their Highnesses may Command. And we shall take your goods and shall do You all the Mischief and Damage that We can as to vassals who do not obey and refuse to receive their Lord and resist and Contradict him. In practice the Spanish ( European Colonizers) did not usually wait for the Indians to reply to their demands. The Indians were manacled then as it were they were read their rights. ( as one colonist and historian described the routine. After they were put in chains someone read the Requerimiento without knowing their language and without any interpreters, and without either the readers or the Indians understanding the Language they had no opportunity to reply, being immediately carried away Prisoners the Europeans not failing to use the stick on those who did not go fast enough. In this perverse way the invasion and destruction of what many including Columbus thought was a “Heaven On Earth” began! Not that the reading of the Requerimiento was necessary to the inhuman violence the Spanish (European Colonizers and the Church) were to perpetrate against the Indigenous People they confronted. Rather the proclamation was merely a legalistic Rational for the fanatical.......the requerimiento is representatives of the very same standards practiced Policing Today.
Columbus and his men shipped thousands of Sunkissed, Melanin Rich, Aboriginal, Indigenous American Indians to The Islands, To Europe and to Afrika and sold them as Negroes.
Negroland is in Afrika and yet we don’t question why?!?
And the idea that Europeans continue to both negate and experiment with the existing functioning Cultures is highly offensive.
    American History equals,
    Aboriginal History
    Autochthonous History
    American Indian History
    Indigenous American History =
    Black History!!!
Reclassification from Indigenous to Black and Afrikan American has both denied and confused a great many of Our People, Regarding Our Contributions, In our Own Land.
The Meritorious Manumission Act of 1710......In Exchange for Freedom.

    3) Squeal on The Sun Kissed.
    4) Invent something that the Pigment Impaired can make Financial Gain and Power from.

    MISQUOTED LINCOLN!
“My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union, and is not either to save or to destroy slavery. If I could save the union without freeing any slaves I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone I would also do that.”
Lincoln had already set in action to free slaves. This meant ALL slaves. This misquote misleads the viewer to not realise this was sentence on the scope of how far to push the policy while considering the far reaching implications. The 3rd option listed here had already been actioned because there was heavy opposition. No, not angry tweets but civil war. By selling this as a national necessity outside of morality it was worded in a way to unite on a very dangerous issue

Christians ARE held to the higher standard, because of the commands in the New Testament. Was it right for those intertribal wars to take place ? No. If the Gospel was handled by those who took it seriously enough to obey it, there would have been enough converts made that those wars would have stopped. You can't kill, covet and enslave people as a Christian, and merely using Christian lingo and slogans don't make someone a Christian. Call it something else, like invasion, or European supremacy, which is honest enough. Ditto for slavery and the rest of it. The Indeginous people who heard the Gospels we're open to that teaching like no one before or since. But that was then, before all these events took place from back then, up to this day.

    • @JulieSevelson-nb9nj
      @JulieSevelson-nb9nj Před rokem

Sure the Natives lost, because they just didn't have access to news from overseas, being surrounded by water. You'd have needed that kind of Intel, just like today,to prevent and repel an invasion. You can't fight what you don't know. Once there were the mass migrations by boat, it was on. You'd have had to sink every ship before it made shore, to prevent all this. Border control, it's called.

Mr. Mooney, you aren't the one to discuss Jesus as you do. The way you do. Didn't Jesus warn the disciples to not do certain things, and act certain ways, while carrying the Word to different parts of the world ? It's better to just say," I want what I want, and that's that.". Lots of people don't like America anymore. I'm talking about other countries, and ex- pats alike ! Christofascism is alive and well in America, it explains a lot. I'm glad I'm just a first generation American. Knowing what I know these days. There's just no way around one thing : you can't call all these incidents Christian acts. Racist acts, yes. Anyone hear of the Boxer Rebellion, and the Crimean War ? European colonizers did try to pull the same thing in Russia and China, and one sees what happened to them. Not a pretty sight. In comparison, the Indigenous people were very kind to the same kind of people who came here in the late 1500's.

      You are missing the point.
The main point is White European went all the way to Indians land, kill most of Indians, take their land, possessions and build a nation/country. Indians didn’t go to Britain exterminate natives effectively and build British Empire!
Shall I go to your house kill your family, take your possessions and claim is my home? Is wrong isn’t it? Moreover, imagine I don’t even apologise generation after generation. How would you feel? That’s the point.
If you have problems( killing, fighting each other) within your home, is not my problem. Likewise, what Indians did in their land is their problem in their land!. European did not have right to go to America, claim that they discovered a new land an make it theirs by killing natives. And yet incapable to apologise.
I’m not surprised that exist people like you who are in denial of what European did in that land. Coz, most of people are brainwashed, is designed that way to manipulate people.

@@kimberleeturner8475This makes a person what would have happened, if the Europeans actually took the New Testament seriously enough not to kill, steal land or kidnap and import slaves from across the Atlantic ocean. Genocide and slavery are lousy foundations for a country. Small wonder that this history was hidden for so long from the rest of the world. So creepy!

They aren't claiming to be " innocent" as this statement puts it. They'll be the first to admit that wars were going on among them. And that it was pretty bad, and certainly some leaders like Tecumseh tried to promote unity on a grand scale, and he very well might have succeeded in doing it, had he not been assassinated by William Henry Harrison, back in the day.

That tells me you believe anything that fits a narrative. There were remains and footprints prior to the ice caps of the bering strait. Explain those? Travel through there was impossible for a large population to cross, but thousand years earlier some how there was human life? Explain that sir

@@throbbintomahawk4654And then there's the matter of what Columbus did, getting his crazy ideas from Marco Polo and his writings ! He thought he could conquer the Silk Road regions, if he went by boat. He knew better than to attempt a land invasion. Because Europe and Asia are connected on the Eurasian land mass, we were always aware of each other. And that's where this Doctrine of Discovery came into play. Before you had the Vatican, you had the Roman Empire. And they wanted the Silk Road since that era, even before the Bible was written.

The New Zealand doctrine of discovery was given to the Maori chiefs. to sign 1835 and king William of England became the protector to this historical document..
By 1840 the waring chiefs signed a peace treaty and extended an invitation to the government of England to manage our infant country with the principals of ownership going to queen Victoria untill Maori are no longer in our infant state.
From 1835 to 2024 the nz government has been able to stack the nz institution in favor of white society and this can be seen clearly in today's government , what took YEARS for nz to achieve as a country is now being undone
