Their name were Muḥammad ibn Mūsā ibn Shākir; Abū al‐Qāsim, Aḥmad ibn Mūsā ibn Shākir; and Al-Ḥasan ibn Mūsā ibn Shākir, also know as 3 Musa brothers. They calculated the circumference of the earth from the angle at Red sea when people thought earth is flat.

I'm Somali, so I listen to tafsir in somali, where the sheikh translated the word Al Ardh as meaning only the lands and made a difference between the planet and the lands, and he also translated the word Al sama which often in english translated as heaven but in reality means everything which is above you. So I notice Ardh means the lands or continents which is not the full planet, but only the ground we step on which is actually flat or spread like a bed, and when Allah talks about the full planet He describes it as spherical in form. I even looked up the english word for "earth" and found that it has two meanings, once which is the ground only and the other meaning which is the full planet, so even in english earth means lands only.
The Word Earth أرض is mentioned 461 times in quran. Depending on the Qur’anic context the meaning could be Earth or land. I think it is wrong to say that the quran say earth's shape is ellipsoid. However, Some scholars like ibn hazm said there are some verse which indicate the shape of earth. Because we can't say these verses like 39:5 is talking about earth's shape. They are not talking about earth shape. Scholars analysed those verses and based on the things said in those verse they said that earth shape could be sphere.

I remember when I was younger (early teens), someone tried to use that argument against me. All I had to say was “spread out land” or “spread out earth” doesn’t really contradict the spherical earth. Just look far into the horizon and see how spread out the earth is for us to live on. The Qur’an is a book of pondering the Creation and finding guidance from the Creator, it is not a book of science. The vastness of the earth that we can perceive is far more important to the human being (in recognizing the Creator) than the spherical shape of the earth. There was literally no Arabic required for me to make that argument. That’s how pathetic their claims are. At the time I didn’t even know that some of the scholars came to a conclusion that the earth is round because the Arabic words used in the verses denote to a spherical earth.
The spherical earth and the Heliocentric model is only 500 years old. Humanity has records as 4000 years old and all ancient civilisations KNEW the earth was FLAT and STATIONARY. The earth is at the center of the Universe, not the SUN. They put the sun in the center because the SUN is their GOD! As for Ibn Hazm, he said that the heavens (the sky) is above the earth, and not around it, for if the heavens were around the earth, this then means that some parts of the heavens would be beneath the earth, and there is no such thing.

He then contrasted it with the rough structure of the moon. The point is as brother Hijab mentioned. These verses can be interpreted in a plethora of manners. Here are three Surahs(Quranic chapters) - Al Quran Surah Luqmaan Surah 31 Ayah 29 : Here it says that Allah slowly and gradually merges the day into night and the night into day. It is only possible if the earth is spherical. Because in a flat earth, this change would be sudden. Thus here the Quran indicates a spherical earth. Al Quran Surah Al Zumar Surah 39 Ayah 5 : Here it says the same thing again Quran Surah Al Naazi'aat Surah 79 Ayah 30 : وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ ❝ wa-l-ʾarḍa baʿda dhālika daḥāhā ❞ "As for the earth, He spread it out as well" - Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran "And after that He spread the earth" - Saheeh International Here the it says Allah spread the earth. Here the word دَحَىٰهَآ (daḥāhā) has two meaning one 'spread' and other is 'egg' mainly ostrich egg. It comes from the arabic word 'duhiya' which means 'ostrich egg'. We know that the earth is not s perfect sphere like a ball. It is squeezed like an ostrich egg. Thus Quran not only says that the earth is round, but also accurately says it's shape. It is a miracle. Islam is miracle. Islam is true. Wo hoo! Counter Argument : First two Quranic verses (31:29 & 39:5) : This is a real funny argument. The day gradually turns into night and vice versa. This can be observed with naked eyes. There is not a single moment before which it is day and after which it is night. The day cycle is : Early morning → morning → noon → after noon → evening → night → mid night. And it repeats. Because the Earth is round, this happens. That's why we can find a gradual transition from day to night and night to day. It is true. But this is clearly observable. Not some discovery. It is a childish argument. It is not at all expected from such a renowned person like Zakir Naik. 😂😂😂 The last Quranic verse (79:30) : 1. The word in the 30th verse of 79th chapter of Quran, 'daḥāhā' does not come from the word 'duhiya'. Here 'daha' means 'to spread' and 'ha' means 'it'. So 'dahaha' means, 'he spread it (The Earth)'. 2. The word 'duhiya' doesn’t mean 'ostrich egg'. It means the place where an ostrich lays down her egg. Which of course is a flat place 3. The shape of the Earth does not resemble the shape of an ostrich egg at all. It makes absolutely no sense. The Earth is spherical shaped (almost spherical as it's polar circumference is just 67km less than it's equatorial circumference. Which is negligible in comparison with it's circumference. So we can call it a ball ) whereas an ostrich egg is ovule shaped. The Earth can be better compared to an orange. If you say that the earth is orange shaped as it is a little squeezed from North to South. It is acceptable to a great extend. But comparing the Earth's shape to that of an ostrich egg, is a disastrously absurd argument. 4. Overall there is one single point that destroys Quran's divinity is that Sir Francis Drake in 1577, Colombus in1492 or Sir Francis Drake in 1543 none of them (as many people think) proved that our planet is round. The earth was known to be round since Aristotle. The great Greek philosopher and mathematician Aristotle proved that Earth is round or spherical almost 2300 years ago through his famous book 'On The Heaven'. Since then, almost all educated individuals and the elite rulers even ordinarily merchants knew that our earth on which we live is a sphere. So if Quran claims the earth to be spherical, it wouldn’t make it miraculous (it basically indicates a flat earth) So Muslim argument here is smashed down to the ground. Asalamualykum, i have a question. The current scientific heliocentric model would make more sense if the statement in Qur'an was to be "we have made the moon subservient to the earth and the earth subservient to the sun" . Whereas The holy Qur'an shows us a different perspective, in which the sun and the moon both are subservient to the earth. i have not come across the notion that The earths gravitational forces - or any other force for that matter - somehow keep the sun subservient to earth from a physics point of view? Please shed some light on this, i would love to hear your thoughts. Pardon any ignorance on my part.
Isnt the sun quite subservient to the earth by providing us heat and light which without it would mean certain death of all living organisms on earth? If we look at the heliocentric model, the earth is at the exact right location for optimal life conditions (the general temprature on earth) if we look at the other planets on the heliocentric model we would have even frozen to death or burned to death.

The evidence that the earth is round includes the following: Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning): “He created the heavens and earth for a true purpose; He wraps the night around the day and the day around the night” [az-Zumar 39:5]. Ibn Hazm and others quoted this verse as evidence. Now think, there were no scientific evidence that the earth is round at their time.
Again it was not the Muslim scholars who claimed that the earth is flat. It was the atheist scientists who believed in the flat earth theory few decades ago.

When he quotes a verse that he claims declares the earth is shaped like an egg, so lets take a really close look at that. The claim here is that 79:30 reads “And we have made the earth egg shaped”, but does it? Nope, it does not, his claimed translation is the true dishonesty here, the quran says no such thing. Arabic: والارض بعد ذلك دحاها Transliteration: Waal-arda baAAda thalika dahaha Literal: And the earth/Planet Earth after that He blew and stretched/spread it. What is going on here is that a couple of translations have attempted to translate the word dahaha to mean made egg-shaped or like an ‘ostrich egg’, but that is wrong. The attempt to justify this is to claim that the root word for dahaha is duhiya which means ostrich egg, but even that is not correct either. In Arabic, each word must be derived from its root. The root usually consists of three letters that can be manipulated, by adding vowels, prefixes and suffixes in order to produce different words with different meanings. For example, “ka-ta-ba” (to write) is the root for many words such as kitab (book), maktaba (library), katib (author), maktoob (written), kitabat (writings), etc… Let’s now take the word mentioned to mean egg of an ostrich, “Duhiya”. This word is not a root. It is a noun and is derived from “da-ha-wa”, the same root that the verb “dahaha” comes from. Furthermore, Duhiya does not even mean the egg of an ostrich. To daha the earth means to spread it out, there is no egg shape here at all, and that is why most good translations correctly render it as streatched or spread. We are right back to a flat earth once again. 15:19 And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance. 20:53 He Who has, made for you the earth like a carpet spread out; has enabled you to go about therein by roads (and channels); and has sent down water from the sky.” With it have We produced diverse pairs of plants each separate from the others. 43:10 (Yea, the same that) has made for you the earth (like a carpet) spread out, and has made for you roads (and channels) therein, in order that ye may find guidance (on the way); 50:7 And the earth- We have spread it out, and set thereon mountains standing firm, and produced therein every kind of beautiful growth (in pairs)

Among the words used to describe the earth are, “We spread” (Surah al-Hijr: 19), “spread/expanse” (Surah al-Naba’:6, Surah al-Baqarah: 22, Surah Nuh: 19, Surah al-Nazi’at :30) and “spread out” (Surah al-Ghasyiah: 20). Allah SWT states: الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فِرَاشًا وَالسَّمَاءَ بِنَاءً “[He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out]” Surah al-Baqarah (22) Allah SWT states: وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ شَيْءٍ مَّوْزُونٍ “And the earth - We have spread it and cast therein firmly set mountains and caused to grow therein [something] of every well-balanced thing.” Surah al-Hijr (19) Allah SWT states: وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَدَّ الْأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْهَارًا “And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers;” Surah al-Ra’d (3) Allah SWT states: وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا ﴿٣٠﴾ أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءَهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا “And after that He spread the earth. He extracted from it its water and its pasture,” Surah al-Nazi’at (30-31) Allah SWT states: وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ “And at the earth - how it is spread out?” Surah al-Ghasyiah (20) Does spread or spreading out of the earth necessarily only means that it is flat or level? Syeikh ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Sa’di defines (وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا) as: “We has widen (spread) the earth as far as the eyes could see for humans and animals to travel, find sustenance and live in all corners of the earth.” (See Taisir al-Karim al-Rahman fi Tafsir Kalam al-Mannan, pg. 1/347) When we study the word (دَحَاهَا), salafussoleh divides it into two: Qatadah, al-Suddi and Sufyan al-Thauri understood the word as spreading out. Ibn ‘Abbas, Ibn Juraij and Ibn Zaid understood its meaning as Allah SWT extracted water, livestock and natural resources for humans. (See al-I’jaz al-‘Ilmi: Ila Aina?, 120-121) Syeikh Ibn 'Asyur defines the word ( بِسَاطًا) when he commented on verse 19 Surah Nuh: “The word al-bisat means anything that is spread to sleep or sit on, whether it is a type of clothing or carpet. The description of earth as being spread out is a balaghah comparison to spreads. The similar characteristic (wajh syabah) of earth to a spread is, it enables people to travel or sleep on it. It does not mean that the earth is created flat by Allah SWT, for the earth is a sphere. The meaning is clear for the verse continues with the phrase ‘for you’ (لَكُمُ ). This is appropriate for the reason is not stated, which is so that you could walk or travel. Both reasons are signs of the blessings for humans from the heavens and earth, such as farm animals and vegetation, to the specific blessing that enables humans to walk on earth.” Hence, the words used, which means flat or level are just their literal meaning, but the contextual meaning from the verse is different. Scholars’ Opinion Regarding the Shape of the Earth Islamic scholars agreed that the earth is a circle. Although, the circle is not an absolute circle, but may be a sphere or a spherical-like shape like an egg. This is supported by modern and scientific findings. Here we include the scholars’ opinions regarding the spherical shape of the earth. Imam Fakhruddin al-Razi: “It has been proven through sound and correct facts that the shape of the earth is a sphere, then, how can someone still be unreasonable (refuse to accept the truth) in this issue?” (See Tafsir Mafatih al-Ghaib, 19/5) Abu Hayyan al-Andalusi cited the opinion of Abdullah al-Darani: “It has been proven that the earth is a circle (spherical). This does not contradict Allah SWT’s statement: (مَدُّ الأَرْضِ) The earth is spread out. The reason is, earth is a huge matter that certain parts of it would be a spread of visible land.” (See al-Bahr al-Muhit, 6/346) Syeikh Muhammad al-Amin bin Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Syanqiti When commenting on verses 30-31 of Surah al-Nazi’at, our teacher Syeikh Muhammad al-Amin bin Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Syanqiti emphasized the need to consult with Muslim experts in the field of astronomy, who agreed that the earth is a circle or a sphere. Syeikh Ibn ‘Asyur Ibn ‘Asyur comments on the word (يُكَوِّرُ) in Surah al-Zumar verse 5 stating: “Al-Takwir means folding or rolling up. As for kawwara al-‘Imamah, it means the folding or rolling of a turban. Takwir from the verse means the comparison of the change of night and day on one side of the earth, alternating with each other. This analogy is unique and acceptable for the changing of night and day is compared to the folding of the turban on a circular head. This is one of the Qurans’ scientific miracles, for the word takwir used refers to kurrah which means spherical. Hence, the earth is spherical. This fact is unknown to the Arabs and humans, until the Quran explains the two elements of the changing of dark to light, or night and day.” (See al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir, 23/238) Syeikh Abd Rahman al-Sa’di states: “The spread of the earth meant (in this verse) does not deny the earth is circular (spherical) and is surrounded by thousands of stars, as has been proven by evidences of our minds, senses and statements and testimonies of experts, who are able to determine the things that are far and wide using the latest technology. For a spread only denies the spherical shape of a small sphere. However, the earth’s size is huge, and a gigantic sphere will be seen as a spread, thus both facts do not contradict each other.” (See Taisir al-Karim al-Rahman, pg. 2/211-212) Early Scholars’ Opinions Regarding the Shape of the Earth Other than the opinions of tafsir scholars, we also include the opinions of early scholars regarding this issue: Ibnu Hazm al-Zahiri “They state: Indeed, there are evidences that prove the earth is a circle, while there are still some people that claim otherwise. And our answer (for guidance comes only from Allah SWT): The leaders of the believers are those who are qualified and are knowledgeable in the field, does not deny that the earth is a circle. There are no evidences from any of them that denies this fact. Furthermore, evidences from the Quran and Sunnah also prove that the earth is a circle.” (See al-Fasl fi al-Milal wa al-Ahwa' wa al-Nihal, 2/78) Syeikh al-Islam Ibnu Taimiyyah The opinion that the earth is a circle is presented by Syeikh al-Islam Ibnu Taimiyyah, from Abi al-Husain al-Munadi, he said: “The consensus of scholars state that the earth and all of its movements, whether it be on land or at sea are like a circle.” (See Majmu' al-Fatawa, 25/195). He further adds: “They (the scholars) have agreed that the earth’s shape is spherical.” Muhammad ibn Ahmad Syams al-Din al-Maqdisi “As for the earth, it is the same as a ball (a sphere), which is located inside the universe, just like the egg whites inside of an egg.” (See Ahsan al-Taqasim fi Ma'rifah al-Aqalim, 1/58) Ibn Khardazabah Abu al-Qasim Ubaidillah bin Abdillah or also known as Ibn Khardazabah said: “The earth’s characteristics is circular, just like a ball or a marble. It is located in the universe just like the egg whites of an egg.” (See al-Masalik wa al-Mamalik, pg. 4) Ahmad bin Yahya bin Fadhl al-‘Umairi Syihab al-Din He cited the opinion of al-Syarif al-Idrisi in the muqaddimah of Masalik al-Absar fi Mamalik al-Amsar: “Even if the earth is a sphere, it is not a perfect sphere (ovoid/egg-shaped).” Abu Bakr bin Yahya al-Suli In Ibn Khallikan’s book, he states the opinion of Abu Bakr bin Yahya al-Suli: “The spherical shape of the earth is determined through geometry. The distance (diameter) is 8000 farsakh. If we wind a thread around the earth from one point (anywhere on earth), the two ends of the thread would eventually meet each other.” (See Wafayat al-A'yan, 4/359) Abu al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzi Rahimahullah He said: “The scholars have agreed that the whole earth including frozen water is like a circle (spherical).” (See al-Muntazam fi Tarikh al-Muluk wa al-Umam, 1/184) Imam Syams al-Din al-Zahabi “The earth in the skies is comparable to the fruit inside a watermelon. And the skies surround the earth from all sides. And the proof of this is when a traveller travels from the east to the west non-stop, he would eventually end up back to the place where he begins his travels.” (See Mukhtasar al-'Uluw li' al-'Aliy al-Ghaffar by al-Zahabi, pg. 74-76)

From the Quran you can find indications that it is round or circular but not spherical ie verses taking about "we opened up or rolled out the earth" (sorry but my wording may not be accurate), or the verses saying how the night goes into day & day into night. This may indicate that the sun & moon are revolving around the earth But Just because circular motions are indicated that doesn't mean that the earth is like a ball. We don't have to try and fit the western narrative of a spherical earth. Allah even says in the Quran that he has spread out the Universe like a scroll in all directions meaning in a flat plain which seems accurate as the universe that they say they can observe is actually like this!! So I think the Quranic picture of the earth is more accurate because the whole ball shape spherical argument has been changed soo many times by these scientists, it's ridiculous. I don't think they REALLY know the shape of the earth or are hiding the real knowledge because the size they mention of the earth and its curvature cannot be right because it has been disproved by many scientists and tests!! Soo many things they teach or talk about AS FACT are infact ONLY THEORIES like for example Gravity! This is a theory not fact. They cannot prove it properly as fact in the real world, only on paper using maths. Now writing long equations on paper that look amazing doesn't mean or do anything in the real world, meaning it don't make it fact. Plus when they say the world earth is rotating they cannot prove this. Experiments were done decades ago to try prove this but failed. Meaning they couldn't show the earth moving. To this day with all the technological advances they still cannot show that the earth is actually revolving!! All I can say is that don't take these CHARLATANS words as fact. They have proven to be liars fitting their ideas, theories & narratives to suit their agendas. If the shape & size of the world is known its either being hidden or they just don't know. Use your eyes & common sense. That the earth is round, that it rotates at its axis, that its axis is tilted at around 23degree, that it orbits the sun..is an established and proven facts. The changes of season, the accurate calculation of eclipses, the facts that we accurately plan the trips to the moon and Mars are all based on the above facts.
Air and sea ways maps, water level and north or south pool dose not support the concept of spherical shape and rotating earth. Earth is like a disc floating on water, it is circular shape but flat.
Imagine you had dough and were told you had to spread it out, would it look like a ball, no because a ball is the opposite of spread out, the truth is it would look something like a pizza because that is what spread out means, spread out anything in this world and it would never look like a ball, a ball is clumped together

Bed is smooth, if it not it was uncomfortable. The arguments is so weak to determine the earth is flat, even though the flatness is still debatable for example the roughness is an exceptions due to vastness of space size. Also the mountains is Smooth base on math curvature, if it not it was a straight tall wall. Also the Arabic words has plenty of meaning, like word spread can be rolled like and egg.

@AL mighty You can literally SPREAD a cloth over a non flat surface. Not to mention, the land you're standing on is not curved in any noticeable sense. By that logic, nothing is truly flat. Just go outside and look at the horizon. That's the point. Look at all the space we have. The opposite of spread out would be compact

Hmm..i was checking the ayat, "He Wraps the night over the day, and Wraps the day over the night" ...Dont you think day (light) and night (Dark, absence of light) can be Wrapped over any shape? Also i think people forget the part Allah talks about the Firmament and its wonderful Super Strong Structure. So this Firmament over us can be like a Dome maybe? The earth underneath the Firmament is Flat? I don't think this ayat proves the heliocentric model. Plus the polar star is always fixed in its position and the rest of the stars spin around it. "يكور" means "كَوَّرَ العِمَامَةَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ"i.e., "لَفَّهَا، أَدَارَهَا" whereby Allah mentions the night and day as doing so and NOT the Earth. Also, "كل في فلك يسبحون" is clearly expressed regarding the night, day, sun and moon and NOT the Earth. Nowhere in the Quran is Earth ever mentioned as being in orbit or "قلك". Furthermore, Ayas like "فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْتِي بِالشَّمْسِ مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ" (sura Al-baqara Aya 258) clearly contradicts the heliocentric model which alleges the Earth orbits the Sun. I would like to point out your fallacy again regarding "تكوير" where you claimed is only possible on a spherical surface which is complete and utter nonsense as the verb "كور" has noting to do with the surface but describes the action of wrapping. Furthermore, it is clear in the mentioned verse that the verb "يكور" is used with the night and day with no mention of the Earth i.e., "wraps the night onto the day and wraps the day onto the night", which makes perfect sense on a flat Earth with the sun, moon, and stars spinning in circular motion above the Earth.

So I've been dealing with this topic of flat earth for a long time now, also in connection with the Qur'an. The interesting thing is, there isn't a single verse that literally says the earth is round as presented to us by modern times. Much more one finds verses where it says that the earth does NOT rotate, but the MOON and the SUN rotate around the earth or above the earth. That's why I currently still believe that the earth is flat or similar to a disc or a coin, with a deep root down.

You also misquoted Ibn Taymiyah, He said the earth is round (circular) مستديرة, he did not say it is spherical, a circle and a sphere are not the same thing needless to say. And Ibn Taymiyah said that the earth does not spin, and the sun is the one that circles the earth. No point in trying to patch-up the authentic meaning of the verses of the Quraan to suit today's so-called sciences (pseudo-sciences), and modern-day magic shows of moon landings.

The “motionless earth” is simply a matter of perception. Imagine if you will the entire cosmos and everything in it rushing past the earth in their orbits and paths and the earth itself is the only motionless object. This can be true if your point of view is from the earth looking out. Now imagine again you are sitting outside of the earth and you are far enough away to witness the earth and all of the heavenly bodies rushing around in their orbits, but now YOU are the motionless object and everything is moving past YOU it can be both motionless and in motion depending on the observers point of view. Much like how a car is traveling down a road and you perceive the landscape and all of the other objects and vehicles moving past your car but you feel that you are motionless and the entire world around you is moving, but if you were sitting outside you would see the car moving and you yourself are not moving The observer is the center and all things move relative to your position
I asked this question of Flat Earth and the splitting of moon to several Muslim scholars. it seems they are all confused. they don't have a concrete answer. Some Muslims says definitely Flat and so on. But one thing I found in Quran no where it says that earth is in round shape.

the early muslims thought the earth is round. one of the evidences is that they calculated the earth circumference them selves and it was very close to the modern calculations.

I'm Somali, so I listen to tafsir in somali, where the sheikh translated the word Al Ardh as meaning only the lands and made a difference between the planet and the lands, and he also translated the word Al sama which often in english translated as heaven but in reality means everything which is above you. So I notice Ardh means the lands or continents which is not the full planet, but only the ground we step on which is actually flat or spread like a bed, and when Allah talks about the full planet He describes it as spherical in form.
I even looked up the english word for "earth" and found that it has two meanings, once which is the ground only and the other meaning which is the full planet, so even in english earth means lands only.
The Word Earth أرض is mentioned 461 times in quran. Depending on the Qur’anic context the meaning could be Earth or land. I think it is wrong to say that the quran say earth's shape is ellipsoid. However, Some scholars like ibn hazm said there are some verse which indicate the shape of earth. Because we can't say these verses like 39:5 is talking about earth's shape. They are not talking about earth shape. Scholars analysed those verses and based on the things said in those verse they said that earth shape could be sphere.

I remember when I was younger (early teens), someone tried to use that argument against me. All I had to say was “spread out land” or “spread out earth” doesn’t really contradict the spherical earth. Just look far into the horizon and see how spread out the earth is for us to live on.
The Qur’an is a book of pondering the Creation and finding guidance from the Creator, it is not a book of science. The vastness of the earth that we can perceive is far more important to the human being (in recognizing the Creator) than the spherical shape of the earth. SubhanAllah! Wallahi I was just reading a text titled “Discoveries and opinions of Galileo” and in it he describes the earth from our vantage point as being spread out, and smooth. He then contrasted it with the rough structure of the moon.
The point is as brother Hijab mentioned. These verses can be interpreted in a plethora of manners. And strictly going for one interpretation over the other is a exegetical mistake

The Word Earth أرض is mentioned 461 times in quran. Depending on the Qur’anic context the meaning could be Earth or land. I think it is wrong to say that the quran say earth's shape is ellipsoid. However, Some scholars like ibn hazm said there are some verse which indicate the shape of earth. I think you gave the perfect answer hijab. Because we can't say these verses like 39:5 talks about earth's shape. They are not talking about earth's shape. Like you said Scholars analysed those verses and based on the things said in those verse they said that earth's shape could be sphere. But quran didn't use the word sphere or ellipsoid. Also Quran doesn't say the shape of the earth is flat. Like i said the word أرض depends on context. It is used 461 times in quran.🙂
Muslim argument ( basically Zakir Naik's argument) :
In ancient times, people thought that the earth on which we live is flat. In 1577AD, Sir Francis Drake (An English naval officer and explorer) proved as tge first man that the earth is round. Quran told us this 1400 years ago.
Here are three Surahs(Quranic chapters) -
Al Quran Surah Luqmaan Surah 31 Ayah 29 :
Here it says that Allah slowly and gradually merges the day into night and the night into day. It is only possible if the earth is spherical. Because in a flat earth, this change would be sudden. Thus here the Quran indicates a spherical earth.
Al Quran Surah Al Zumar Surah 39 Ayah 5 :
Here it says the same thing again
Quran Surah Al Naazi'aat Surah 79 Ayah 30 :
وَٱلْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَىٰهَآ
❝ wa-l-ʾarḍa baʿda dhālika daḥāhā ❞
"As for the earth, He spread it out as well"
- Dr. Mustafa Khattab, the Clear Quran
"And after that He spread the earth"

Here the it says Allah spread the earth. Here the word دَحَىٰهَآ (daḥāhā) has two meaning one 'spread' and other is 'egg' mainly ostrich egg. It comes from the arabic word 'duhiya' which means 'ostrich egg'. We know that the earth is not s perfect sphere like a ball. It is squeezed like an ostrich egg. Thus Quran not only says that the earth is round, but also accurately says it's shape.
It is a miracle. Islam is miracle. Islam is true.

Counter Argument :
First two Quranic verses (31:29 & 39:5) :
This is a real funny argument. The day gradually turns into night and vice versa. This can be observed with naked eyes. There is not a single moment before which it is day and after which it is night.
The day cycle is :
Early morning → morning → noon → after noon → evening → night → mid night.
And it repeats.
Because the Earth is round, this happens. That's why we can find a gradual transition from day to night and night to day. It is true.
But this is clearly observable. Not some discovery. It is a childish argument. It is not at all expected from such a renowned person like Zakir Naik. 😂😂😂
The last Quranic verse (79:30) :
1. The word in the 30th verse of 79th chapter of Quran, 'daḥāhā' does not come from the word 'duhiya'. Here 'daha' means 'to spread' and 'ha' means 'it'. So 'dahaha' means, 'he spread it (The Earth)'.
2. The word 'duhiya' doesn’t mean 'ostrich egg'. It means the place where an ostrich lays down her egg. Which of course is a flat place
3. The shape of the Earth does not resemble the shape of an ostrich egg at all. It makes absolutely no sense. The Earth is spherical shaped (almost spherical as it's polar circumference is just 67km less than it's equatorial circumference. Which is negligible in comparison with it's circumference. So we can call it a ball ) whereas an ostrich egg is ovule shaped. The Earth can be better compared to an orange. If you say that the earth is orange shaped as it is a little squeezed from North to South. It is acceptable to a great extend. But comparing the Earth's shape to that of an ostrich egg, is a disastrously absurd argument.
4. Overall there is one single point that destroys Quran's divinity is that Sir Francis Drake in 1577, Colombus in1492 or Sir Francis Drake in 1543 none of them (as many people think) proved that our planet is round. The earth was known to be round since Aristotle. The great Greek philosopher and mathematician Aristotle proved that Earth is round or spherical almost 2300 years ago through his famous book 'On The Heaven'. Since then, almost all educated individuals and the elite rulers even ordinarily merchants knew that our earth on which we live is a sphere. So if Quran claims the earth to be spherical, it wouldn’t make it miraculous (it basically indicates a flat earth)
So Muslim argument here is smashed down to the ground. It is clear that Allah, the writer of Quran( according to Islamic teachings) was an ignorant of 7th century Arabia. He filled Quran with ignorance.

Asalamualykum, i have a question. The current scientific heliocentric model would make more sense if the statement in Qur'an was to be "we have made the moon subservient to the earth and the earth subservient to the sun" . Whereas The holy Qur'an shows us a different perspective, in which the sun and the moon both are subservient to the earth.
i have not come across the notion that The earths gravitational forces - or any other force for that matter - somehow keep the sun subservient to earth from a physics point of view? Please shed some light on this, i would love to hear your thoughts. Pardon any ignorance on my part.
Isnt the sun quite subservient to the earth by providing us heat and light which without it would mean certain death of all living organisms on earth? If we look at the heliocentric model, the earth is at the exact right location for optimal life conditions (the general temprature on earth) if we look at the other planets on the heliocentric model we would have even frozen to death or burned to death.

The evidence that the earth is round includes the following:
Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning):
“He created the heavens and earth for a true purpose; He wraps the night around the day and the day around the night”
[az-Zumar 39:5].
Ibn Hazm and others quoted this verse as evidence. Now think, there were no scientific evidence that the earth is round at their time.
Again it was not the Muslim scholars who claimed that the earth is flat.
It was the atheist scientists who believed in the flat earth theory few decades ago.

When he quotes a verse that he claims declares the earth is shaped like an egg, so lets take a really close look at that. The claim here is that 79:30 reads “And we have made the earth egg shaped”, but does it?
Nope, it does not, his claimed translation is the true dishonesty here, the quran says no such thing.
Arabic: والارض بعد ذلك دحاها
Transliteration: Waal-arda baAAda thalika dahaha
Literal: And the earth/Planet Earth after that He blew and stretched/spread it.
What is going on here is that a couple of translations have attempted to translate the word dahaha to mean made egg-shaped or like an ‘ostrich egg’, but that is wrong. The attempt to justify this is to claim that the root word for dahaha is duhiya which means ostrich egg, but even that is not correct either.
In Arabic, each word must be derived from its root. The root usually consists of three letters that can be manipulated, by adding vowels, prefixes and suffixes in order to produce different words with different meanings. For example, “ka-ta-ba” (to write) is the root for many words such as kitab (book), maktaba (library), katib (author), maktoob (written), kitabat (writings), etc…
Let’s now take the word mentioned to mean egg of an ostrich, “Duhiya”. This word is not a root. It is a noun and is derived from “da-ha-wa”, the same root that the verb “dahaha” comes from. Furthermore, Duhiya does not even mean the egg of an ostrich.
To daha the earth means to spread it out, there is no egg shape here at all, and that is why most good translations correctly render it as streatched or spread.
We are right back to a flat earth once again.
15:19 And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance.
20:53 He Who has, made for you the earth like a carpet spread out; has enabled you to go about therein by roads (and channels); and has sent down water from the sky.” With it have We produced diverse pairs of plants each separate from the others.

Allah SWT explains about the earth using several words describing it. Among the words used to describe the earth are, “We spread” (Surah al-Hijr: 19), “spread/expanse” (Surah al-Naba’:6, Surah al-Baqarah: 22, Surah Nuh: 19, Surah al-Nazi’at :30) and “spread out” (Surah al-Ghasyiah: 20).
Allah SWT states:
الَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ الْأَرْضَ فِرَاشًا وَالسَّمَاءَ بِنَاءً
“[He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out]”
Surah al-Baqarah (22)
Allah SWT states:

Allah SWT states:
وَهُوَ الَّذِي مَدَّ الْأَرْضَ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا رَوَاسِيَ وَأَنْهَارًا
“And it is He who spread the earth and placed therein firmly set mountains and rivers;”
Surah al-Ra’d (3)
Allah SWT states:
وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا ﴿٣٠﴾ أَخْرَجَ مِنْهَا مَاءَهَا وَمَرْعَاهَا
“And after that He spread the earth. He extracted from it its water and its pasture,”
Surah al-Nazi’at (30-31)
Allah SWT states:
وَإِلَى الْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ
“And at the earth - how it is spread out?”
Surah al-Ghasyiah (20)
Does spread or spreading out of the earth necessarily only means that it is flat or level?
Syeikh ‘Abd al-Rahman al-Sa’di defines (وَالْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَاهَا) as: “We has widen (spread) the earth as far as the eyes could see for humans and animals to travel, find sustenance and live in all corners of the earth.” (See Taisir al-Karim al-Rahman fi Tafsir Kalam al-Mannan, pg. 1/347)
When we study the word (دَحَاهَا), salafussoleh divides it into two:
Qatadah, al-Suddi and Sufyan al-Thauri understood the word as spreading out.
Ibn ‘Abbas, Ibn Juraij and Ibn Zaid understood its meaning as Allah SWT extracted water, livestock and natural resources for humans.
(See al-I’jaz al-‘Ilmi: Ila Aina?, 120-121)
Syeikh Ibn 'Asyur defines the word ( بِسَاطًا) when he commented on verse 19 Surah Nuh:
“The word al-bisat means anything that is spread to sleep or sit on, whether it is a type of clothing or carpet. The description of earth as being spread out is a balaghah comparison to spreads. The similar characteristic (wajh syabah) of earth to a spread is, it enables people to travel or sleep on it. It does not mean that the earth is created flat by Allah SWT, for the earth is a sphere. The meaning is clear for the verse continues with the phrase ‘for you’ (لَكُمُ ). This is appropriate for the reason is not stated, which is so that you could walk or travel. Both reasons are signs of the blessings for humans from the heavens and earth, such as farm animals and vegetation, to the specific blessing that enables humans to walk on earth.”
Hence, the words used, which means flat or level are just their literal meaning, but the contextual meaning from the verse is different.
Scholars’ Opinion Regarding the Shape of the Earth
Islamic scholars agreed that the earth is a circle. Although, the circle is not an absolute circle, but may be a sphere or a spherical-like shape like an egg. This is supported by modern and scientific findings.
Here we include the scholars’ opinions regarding the spherical shape of the earth.
Imam Fakhruddin al-Razi:
“It has been proven through sound and correct facts that the shape of the earth is a sphere, then, how can someone still be unreasonable (refuse to accept the truth) in this issue?” (See Tafsir Mafatih al-Ghaib, 19/5)
Abu Hayyan al-Andalusi cited the opinion of Abdullah al-Darani:
“It has been proven that the earth is a circle (spherical). This does not contradict Allah SWT’s statement: (مَدُّ الأَرْضِ) The earth is spread out. The reason is, earth is a huge matter that certain parts of it would be a spread of visible land.” (See al-Bahr al-Muhit, 6/346)
Syeikh Muhammad al-Amin bin Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Syanqiti
When commenting on verses 30-31 of Surah al-Nazi’at, our teacher Syeikh Muhammad al-Amin bin Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Syanqiti emphasized the need to consult with Muslim experts in the field of astronomy, who agreed that the earth is a circle or a sphere.
Syeikh Ibn ‘Asyur
Ibn ‘Asyur comments on the word (يُكَوِّرُ) in Surah al-Zumar verse 5 stating:
“Al-Takwir means folding or rolling up. As for kawwara al-‘Imamah, it means the folding or rolling of a turban. Takwir from the verse means the comparison of the change of night and day on one side of the earth, alternating with each other. This analogy is unique and acceptable for the changing of night and day is compared to the folding of the turban on a circular head. This is one of the Qurans’ scientific miracles, for the word takwir used refers to kurrah which means spherical. Hence, the earth is spherical. This fact is unknown to the Arabs and humans, until the Quran explains the two elements of the changing of dark to light, or night and day.” (See al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir, 23/238)
Syeikh Abd Rahman al-Sa’di states:
“The spread of the earth meant (in this verse) does not deny the earth is circular (spherical) and is surrounded by thousands of stars, as has been proven by evidences of our minds, senses and statements and testimonies of experts, who are able to determine the things that are far and wide using the latest technology. For a spread only denies the spherical shape of a small sphere. However, the earth’s size is huge, and a gigantic sphere will be seen as a spread, thus both facts do not contradict each other.” (See Taisir al-Karim al-Rahman, pg. 2/211-212)
Early Scholars’ Opinions Regarding the Shape of the Earth
Other than the opinions of tafsir scholars, we also include the opinions of early scholars regarding this issue:
Ibnu Hazm al-Zahiri
“They state: Indeed, there are evidences that prove the earth is a circle, while there are still some people that claim otherwise. And our answer (for guidance comes only from Allah SWT): The leaders of the believers are those who are qualified and are knowledgeable in the field, does not deny that the earth is a circle. There are no evidences from any of them that denies this fact. Furthermore, evidences from the Quran and Sunnah also prove that the earth is a circle.” (See al-Fasl fi al-Milal wa al-Ahwa' wa al-Nihal, 2/78)
Syeikh al-Islam Ibnu Taimiyyah
The opinion that the earth is a circle is presented by Syeikh al-Islam Ibnu Taimiyyah, from Abi al-Husain al-Munadi, he said: “The consensus of scholars state that the earth and all of its movements, whether it be on land or at sea are like a circle.” (See Majmu' al-Fatawa, 25/195). He further adds: “They (the scholars) have agreed that the earth’s shape is spherical.”
Muhammad ibn Ahmad Syams al-Din al-Maqdisi
“As for the earth, it is the same as a ball (a sphere), which is located inside the universe, just like the egg whites inside of an egg.” (See Ahsan al-Taqasim fi Ma'rifah al-Aqalim, 1/58)
Ibn Khardazabah
Abu al-Qasim Ubaidillah bin Abdillah or also known as Ibn Khardazabah said: “The earth’s characteristics is circular, just like a ball or a marble. It is located in the universe just like the egg whites of an egg.” (See al-Masalik wa al-Mamalik, pg. 4)
Ahmad bin Yahya bin Fadhl al-‘Umairi Syihab al-Din
He cited the opinion of al-Syarif al-Idrisi in the muqaddimah of Masalik al-Absar fi Mamalik al-Amsar: “Even if the earth is a sphere, it is not a perfect sphere (ovoid/egg-shaped).”
Abu Bakr bin Yahya al-Suli
In Ibn Khallikan’s book, he states the opinion of Abu Bakr bin Yahya al-Suli: “The spherical shape of the earth is determined through geometry. The distance (diameter) is 8000 farsakh. If we wind a thread around the earth from one point (anywhere on earth), the two ends of the thread would eventually meet each other.” (See Wafayat al-A'yan, 4/359)
Abu al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzi Rahimahullah
He said: “The scholars have agreed that the whole earth including frozen water is like a circle (spherical).” (See al-Muntazam fi Tarikh al-Muluk wa al-Umam, 1/184)
Imam Syams al-Din al-Zahabi
“The earth in the skies is comparable to the fruit inside a watermelon. And the skies surround the earth from all sides. And the proof of this is when a traveller travels from the east to the west non-stop, he would eventually end up back to the place where he begins his travels.” (See Mukhtasar al-'Uluw li' al-'Aliy al-Ghaffar by al-Zahabi, pg. 74-76)

From the Quran you can find indications that it is round or circular but not spherical ie verses taking about "we opened up or rolled out the earth" (sorry but my wording may not be accurate), or the verses saying how the night goes into day & day into night. This may indicate that the sun & moon are revolving around the earth But Just because circular motions are indicated that doesn't mean that the earth is like a ball. We don't have to try and fit the western narrative of a spherical earth. Allah even says in the Quran that he has spread out the Universe like a scroll in all directions meaning in a flat plain which seems accurate as the universe that they say they can observe is actually like this!! So I think the Quranic picture of the earth is more accurate because the whole ball shape spherical argument has been changed soo many times by these scientists, it's ridiculous. I don't think they REALLY know the shape of the earth or are hiding the real knowledge because the size they mention of the earth and its curvature cannot be right because it has been disproved by many scientists and tests!! Soo many things they teach or talk about AS FACT are infact ONLY THEORIES like for example Gravity! This is a theory not fact. They cannot prove it properly as fact in the real world, only on paper using maths. Now writing long equations on paper that look amazing doesn't mean or do anything in the real world, meaning it don't make it fact. Plus when they say the world earth is rotating they cannot prove this. Experiments were done decades ago to try prove this but failed. Meaning they couldn't show the earth moving. To this day with all the technological advances they still cannot show that the earth is actually revolving!! All I can say is that don't take these CHARLATANS words as fact. They have proven to be liars fitting their ideas, theories & narratives to suit their agendas. If the shape & size of the world is known its either being hidden or they just don't know. Use your eyes & common sense. That the earth is round, that it rotates at its axis, that its axis is tilted at around 23degree, that it orbits the sun..is an established and proven facts. The changes of season, the accurate calculation of eclipses, the facts that we accurately plan the trips to the moon and Mars are all based on the above facts.
Air and sea ways maps, water level and north or south pool dose not support the concept of spherical shape and rotating earth. Earth is like a disc floating on water, it is circular shape but flat.

This is a false dilemma,, well you can't say that if you have done some research because the reality is that ''takwir' in that verse' makes more sense on a Flat Earth model. We know Al kawru in language dictionary comes from takwir al I'mama or the wrapping of the turban and its opposite is al hawr and that according to all dictionaries and earlier scholars including Ibn Hazm himself. This verse clearly talks about the action and movement of both matters day and night as they are both a creation of Allah, and that even according to the tafasirs, Tabari, Ibn kathir, Baghawi and most mufasirin. In Surah 81-1 Allah says ''Itha ashshamsu KUWIRAT'' does that mean the Sun will become a sphere? so it's not a sphere now? we can play the same game but Allah means ''When the sun will be folded up'' or it light goes away,, but takwir here doesn't have to do anything with the shape.
Today some modern scholars refer to some Ulama in the past like Ibn Taymiyyah, al Razi, Ibn hazm to prove that Earth is a globe, but they don’t want to mention that those same Ulama had different views of the universe than what we know today, Yes some had a different opinion about the shape of Earth but did they say that Earth is spinning in space? Did they say Sun is 1000x bigger than earth? Did they say the Sun is the center of the universe or the solar system? Did they say the Earth is orbiting around the Sun? No.
Ibn Hazm in his book كتاب الفصل في الملل والأهواء والنحل he clearly described Earth at the bottom and Heavens above it, and even when he says round he also referred to the whole fulk round including the heavens meaning Earth could be round but that doesn't mean it has to be a ball. This is what he says in page 79 chapter 2 of his book
قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّد وَلَا برهَان على مَا ذكر إِلَّا أَنه قَالَ إِن السَّمَوَات هِيَ فَوق الأَرْض فَلَو كَانَت السَّمَوَات مُحِيطَة بِالْأَرْضِ لَكَانَ بعض السَّمَوَات تَحت الأَرْض وَهَذَا لَيْسَ بِشَيْء لِأَن التحت والفوق من بَاب الْإِضَافَة لَا يُقَال فِي شَيْء تَحت إِلَّا وَهُوَ فَوق لشَيْء آخر حاشى مَرْكَز الأَرْض فَإِنَّهُ تَحت مُطلق لَا تَحت لَهُ الْبَتَّةَ وَكَذَلِكَ كل مَا قيل فِيهِ أَنه فَوق فَهُوَ أَيْضا تَحت لشَيْء آخر حاشى الصفحة الْعليا من الْفلك إِلَّا على الْمَقْسُوم بقسمة البروج فَهِيَ فَوق لَا فَوق لَهَا الْبَتَّةَ فالأرض على هَذَا الْبُرْهَان الشَّاهِد هِيَ مَكَان التحت فِي السَّمَوَات ضَرُورَة فَمن حَيْثُ كَانَت السَّمَاء فَهِيَ فَوق الأَرْض وَمن حَيْثُ قابلتها الأَرْض فَهِيَ تَحت السَّمَاء وَلَا بُد وَحَيْثُ مَا كَانَ ابْن آدم فرأسه إِلَى السَّمَاء وَرجلَاهُ إِلَى الأَرْض وَقد قَالَ الله عز وَجل {ألم تروا كَيفَ خلق الله سبع سماوات طباقاً وَجعل الْقَمَر فِيهِنَّ نورا وَجعل الشَّمْس سِرَاجًا} وَقَالَ تَعَالَى {جعل فِي السَّمَاء بروجاً وَجعل فِيهَا سِرَاجًا وقمراً منيراً} فَأخْبر الله تَعَالَى أَخْبَار لَا يردهُ إِلَّا كَافِر بِأَن الْقَمَر فِي السَّمَاء وَأَن الشَّمْس أَيْضا فِي السَّمَاء ثمَّ قد قَامَ الْبُرْهَان الضَّرُورِيّ الْمشَاهد بالعيان على دورانها حول الأَرْض من مشرق إِلَى مغرب ثمَّ من مغرب إِلَى مشرق فَلَو كَانَ على مَا يظنّ أهل الْجَهْل لكَانَتْ الشَّمْس وَالْقَمَر إِذْ دَارا بِالْأَرْضِ وصارا فِيمَا يُقَابل صفحة الأَرْض الَّتِي لسنا عَلَيْهَا قد خرجا عَن السَّمَاء وَهَذَا تَكْذِيب لله تَعَالَى فصح بِهَذَا أَنه لَا يجوز أَن يقارق الشَّمْس وَالْقَمَر السَّمَوَات وَلَا أَن يخرجَا عَنْهَا لِأَنَّهُمَا كَيفَ دَارا فهما فِي السَّمَوَات فصح ضَرُورَة أَن السَّمَوَات مُطَابقَة طباقاً على الأَرْض وَأَيْضًا فقد نَص تَعَالَى كَمَا ذكرنَا على أَن الشَّمْس وَالْقَمَر والنجوم فِي السَّمَوَات ثمَّ قَالَ تَعَالَى {وكلٌ فِي فلك يسبحون}

If we base our claims on what scholars said in the past, that will not prove anything. the reality we look at what Allah and his prophet say in Quran and the tafasirs, because then I can simply say that Ibn al baz, Ibn Kathir, Al qurtoby, Ibn otaim, Al fawzan, Abdlukader Baghdadi in his book Usul adin, Tafsir al jalalayn of Jamal edin al mahali, Imam algharnati and list goes on. All those scholars agreed and said Erath is basit Flat. So who do we follow? Just so that people know is that the first people who claimed Earth is a sphere in the Muslim Ummah were Ahlu alhayae and Al munajamin who took greek philosophy and their translations to explain the universe during the Abbasid. They were heavily criticized even to the kufr because of the contradiction of their claims with the Quran and sharria, even Ibn Taymiyyah criticized them. The point is we see what the Quran says and the clear Tafasir, not what ahl alhaya and philosophers say.

Hmm..i was checking the ayat, "He Wraps the night over the day, and Wraps the day over the night" ...Dont you think day (light) and night (Dark, absence of light) can be Wrapped over any shape? Also i think people forget the part Allah talks about the Firmament and its wonderful Super Strong Structure. So this Firmament over us can be like a Dome maybe? The earth underneath the Firmament is Flat? I don't think this ayat proves the heliocentric model. Plus the polar star is always fixed in its position and the rest of the stars spin around it. I think people should carry out experiments, go out, see what Nasa presents because they have the latest technology compared to people in history who did NOT have advanced instruments we have today e.g. laser. Please stop twisting the scriptures to suit your world view which ironically aligns with the "non-believers'" cosmology. The Earth is obviously and observably flat and Allah confirms it in the Quran. "يكور" means "كَوَّرَ العِمَامَةَ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ"i.e., "لَفَّهَا، أَدَارَهَا" whereby Allah mentions the night and day as doing so and NOT the Earth. Also, "كل في فلك يسبحون" is clearly expressed regarding the night, day, sun and moon and NOT the Earth. Nowhere in the Quran is Earth ever mentioned as being in orbit or "قلك". Furthermore, Ayas like "فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْتِي بِالشَّمْسِ مِنَ الْمَشْرِقِ" (sura Al-baqara Aya 258) clearly contradicts the heliocentric model which alleges the Earth orbits the Sun. What evidences are you talking about? Scholars? Why are you ignoring explicit descriptions in the Quran? All words describing the Earth in the Quran are unequivocally detailing a flat and motionless level planar Earth and NOT a "planet". "فِرَٰشًا" "مهدا" "بساطا" "مِهَٰدًا" ""سُطِحَتْ "مددناها" "طَحَاهَا" "دَحَاهَا" all apply to a flat planar surface and not a ball. I challenge Mohammed Hijab and anyone for that matter to bring one aya in the Quran that defines Earth as either a globe or spinning or in orbit; implicit or explicit.
I would like to point out your fallacy again regarding "تكوير" where you claimed is only possible on a spherical surface which is complete and utter nonsense as the verb "كور" has noting to do with the surface but describes the action of wrapping. Furthermore, it is clear in the mentioned verse that the verb "يكور" is used with the night and day with no mention of the Earth i.e., "wraps the night onto the day and wraps the day onto the night", which makes perfect sense on a flat Earth with the sun, moon, and stars spinning in circular motion above the Earth.

Even if we use your obviously flawed logic and lack of understanding of the both the Quran and the Arabic language by wrongly stating that "ارض" ONLY means the ground/terrain (which it doesn't but I'll give it to you just for the sake of argument) so if the ground/terrain is described as flat, how can you come to the conclusion that it's entirety is a sphere? The universe is always mentioned by Allah in the Quran as "السَّمَوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ" the Earth and the Heavens and everything in between. Moreover, the word "كوكب" is used several times in the Quran for example " إِنَّا زَيَّنَّا السَّمَاءَ الدُّنْيَا بِزِينَةٍ الْكَوَاكِبِ " - الصافات/6 why isn't Earth mentioned as such? So I've been dealing with this topic of flat earth for a long time now, also in connection with the Qur'an. The interesting thing is, there isn't a single verse that literally says the earth is round as presented to us by modern times. Much more one finds verses where it says that the earth does NOT rotate, but the MOON and the SUN rotate around the earth or above the earth. That's why I currently still believe that the earth is flat or similar to a disc or a coin, with a deep root down.
There is no single verse which literally says that the earth is flat. Please also make this CLEAR.

In the quran there is a ayyah [79:30] that says "He (Allah" made the earh egg-shapped"
وَالْأَرْضَ بَعْدَ ذَٰلِكَ دَحَاهَا [79:30]

And Ibn Taymiyah said that the earth does not spin, and the sun is the one that circles the earth. No point in trying to patch-up the authentic meaning of the verses of the Quraan to suit today's so-called sciences (pseudo-sciences), and modern-day magic shows of moon landings.

When you get a rolling pin and roll it over a ball of dough, the dough spreads out into a flat circular shape, so the earth could have been a ball shaped in the making, then Allāh spread it out, and this hypothesis coincides with the hadith that mentions that Allāh will roll up the heavens and the earth with His two fingers.

The “motionless earth” is simply a matter of perception. Imagine if you will the entire cosmos and everything in it rushing past the earth in their orbits and paths and the earth itself is the only motionless object. This can be true if your point of view is from the earth looking out. Now imagine again you are sitting outside of the earth and you are far enough away to witness the earth and all of the heavenly bodies rushing around in their orbits, but now YOU are the motionless object and everything is moving past YOU it can be both motionless and in motion depending on the observers point of view. Much like how a car is traveling down a road and you perceive the landscape and all of the other objects and vehicles moving past your car but you feel that you are motionless and the entire world around you is moving, but if you were sitting outside you would see the car moving and you yourself are not moving

I asked this question of Flat Earth and the splitting of moon to several Muslim scholars. it seems they are all confused. they don't have a concrete answer. Some Muslims says definitely Flat and so on. But one thing I found in Quran no where it says that earth is in round shape.

As for the meaning of the Qur’an, Allah Almighty says: (He makes the Night overlap the Day, and the Day overlap the Night). Night and day alternate on the earth, and this necessitates that the earth be round, because if you round something over something, the earth on which this thing is revolved must be spherical.
