The Early Years Recording Track 3 of 15
- Here is a 19-year old Jocko Grooving on a spectacular four minute extended solo. Over a funky tho-chord pattern Jocko has a ball playing around with the time as he is allowed to play indefinitely until Tommy Strand decides to reel hum back in. You can almost get inside Jocko's head as you hear his ideas unfold one bar at a time. This is a rare opportunity to check out Jocko's extraordinary beginnings as soloist
OMG to have been there to hear that live.. I just imagine 19 year old Jaco stepping up and dropping 10 tons of funk right onto the audience.
Props to guitarist and the drummer holding it down while Jaco goes on tour
For real I really dug the way the guitar player was comping I found myself listening to him play over and over
That’s Kenny Cordray on guitar , of course Jaco
In 1971 I was working in Peter Graves Orchestra then called "Gangplank" 6 nights a week, four sets a night at the "fabulous" Newport Hotel's 7 Seas Lounge in Miami Beach in between or as bands for Smokey Robinson, Franki Vallii & Four Seasons, Lou Rawls, etc. Jaco was with Stand just up the street in the Ft. Laud. strip and his reputation was growing in a very competitive scene in 1968-73. I, too, used the Acoustic 360 amp and I swear that and any Fender bass produced as unique a sound as the Hammond B3. I found my chops and a sound because budding bassists could finally hear themselves. There isn't one amp nor bass that lends itself to this kind of growth. Listening to this I hear what Jaco heard through this bass/amp combination. All the cats were using the Acoustic 360 -- Jemmott, Bennett and I maintain that remains the most exciting bass amp that was ever produced. Jes' sayin'.
Jaco Pastorius the best bass player of the World .
+Marcelo Cesar Falcão IL NUMERO 1!
verdade Michele Iaccarino Jaco Pastorius com sua música me faz chorar.
Not the best but the very greatest,a big difference.
Great version and Jaco's tone and phrasing are quite unmistakable, already at this early date, five years before he burst onto the major stage.
This just makes my day. In 1978, when we were babies, we drove all the way from La Grande to Portland, OR -- 5 hours of high desert and ancient Columbia River majesty -- to see Joni MItchell and Jaco live. It was well, any adjective is cliche, but well, epic. Mingus and Jaco and Pat Methany and shy Joni. In Portland.
holy freaking crap man. i wish i could have been there
Yeah ,, this is so cool ,, what an incredible bass solo from Jaco, this is thé Jaco i realy do love, been listening since 1986 now,,,, he has given me so much inspiration in my Bass playing, the greatest of all Bassists this Man , a Comet in the Galaxy
wow. these tracks are historical. Thanks for posting.
His sound (and playing) is timeless, as it is as fresh in 2022 as in 1971, whereas the guitar and drums sound just their age...: ). Very good!
Superb and he really, really starts cooking just at that fade out, at about the 5:30 mark.
Just sick...another great one from a great one...the 1 & only JP...
@ingra naggio tus comentarios son muy apreciados. muchas gracias. no tienen precio. (Your comments are greatly appreciated. Thank you very much. They are priceless.)
Listen to him go!
Genius at the doing...: )
I mean in the making...
A mere 19 and what an imaginative impro... I never cease to admire Jaco's play. I appreciate other good bass players, but somehow there is not too much no room left in my heart for them.
One of my favorite solos from Jaco, I love this song =)
damn I would love to hear this whole recording session, unedited. well just everything jaco ever played even haha
Not many things can be better than this!
1:48 - Jaco kicks in - marvelous!
Soooooo sweet
yeah! I like it!
love under the will
frater jaco
I’m pretty sure that is Kenny Cordray on guitar holding it down!!!!!!! RIP Kenny
g'day blokes and blokettes! i just put up another track from this collection in my channel! it's called "between races" and features a young pastorius gigging with the peter graves orchestra in 1974. i don't think it has ever been put up on youtube before! pastorius plays some great walking lines and a monster bass intro!
Yeah...
Love this!!!!
Is this a CD release???
Would love to have it
🤍💙
the break at 41 seconds.. NASTY!
jocko????
dario talone Jaco's initial nickname was Jocko
trying to sort thru this mess its a musical disaster how can anyone think this is good music? its all over the fucking place
nick gratton its a glimpse into his club date years- a teenage Jaco playing with a rock/r&b trio- it’s a cover of sly, he’s taking a groove solo- you’re getting a taste of him cutting his teeth.
It’s not intended to stand as a great composition.
No One played like this in 1971 mate.
What! I feel sorry for you if can't feel the groove here. Its solid trio playing and Jaco is clearly already light years ahead of everyone else. Even today it still is seminal. What a silly post.
yeah, all over the place and incredibly musical...
Hilarious!
