  • At long last another dream has been fulfilled. Left-hand nimbleness was a huge challenge and conscious relaxing was another. What a song.
Every time I go back and watch this I am amazed at the technical difficulty, yet fluency, and the adaptability of the harp. Voicing here was difficult. You'll notice at 0:53 the melody begins once, then begins again lower down, while the left hand still has the dah dah da-da-da pattern going. But it all got done by splitting the middle voice between hands. Another issue was my left hand cramping up due to repetitive muscle use (haha thanks John Williams for that base line) (it makes the whole piece - it adds the tension and energy).
Can I say, I am so thankful the Lord has blessed me with the gift to do this. He is so good and beautiful and generous a God, and I cannot post this without giving him all the glory :)

So it was an actual cramp! I thought I felt something weird at some point, but I wasn't sure if it was part of the song (a modification in order to adapt it to Harp, for example), a simple mistake or something else. You have my respect ad admiration! To be able to keep playing while cramping shows incredible talent and dedication. Kudos!

I never knew a person’s fingers can be so nimble! Also, I love how you made this tense piece somehow slightly calming.

Brilliantly done, and such an incredibly challenging piece to play on the harp. Bravo!

I've been obsessed with this video since I stumbled upon it. Sometimes my search history will just consist of different covers of the same movie soundtrack song because different instruments and different interpretations can give a totally different feeling to the track (like a harp version of Moonlight Sonata vs the piano). I was telling my partner that the original version, with the whole orchestra, really does feel like a duel of the fates at play; this song makes it clear that the outcome of this fight will determine Anakin's future, the future of the galaxy, all of it. Your cover, though, feels and sounds so much more intimate and personal. It doesn't sound like I'm listening to the fate of the galaxy, it sounds like I'm listening to Anakin. This harp cover sounds like his whole life; Anakin the boy, Anakin the man, and Darth Vader. It sounds like I'm listening to his fall to the dark side, set in motion so many years before it actually happened.
Thank you. This is a fantastic cover.

With the ostinato played so independently from the melody on a single polyphonic instrument, the piece could be mistakan for a J.S. Bach prelude form the WTC, no?

the first notes are quite high. it doesn’t match the deep notes which are coming afterwards. that’s why the beginning sounds kinda off. but everything else is amazing!! ^^

Thank you!! Ok, that makes more sense. I was copying the original soundtrack, and that’s what the beginning sounded like to me, so that’s what I chose to do :) not intended to sound off, but I suppose that’s the way it’ll be 😁 thanks for explaining!

  • @the_chomper

it sounds off.... like the beginning is to high then the next part is to low... not sure what the term is but it just sounds off.

Do you mean the sound you hear and the register/location of the strings on the harp, or the register compared to the original? Or perhaps something else? I’m interested to know what you think!!
