Thierry Henry on Lionel Messi, THAT Pires penalty, and Arteta's Arsenal | Exclusive Interview
• Thierry Henry on Lione... - Sport
Peps strategy back then was crazy. Inventing new systems and being one of the top teams in the world
it was cruyff's
He didn’t invent anything. Rinus Michels used it in the 70s for Ajax and Netherlands, Cruyff in the 90’s for Barcelona. Cruyff played under Michels, Guardiola played under Cruyff.
Yep, but how he devided pitch to 18 or 20 area and deliver to his player to understand and do what he want is absolutely amazing..
@@bcamplite621 exactly someone who know's ... cruyff did revolutionalise the whole thing... pep still uses cruyffs diamond till today

The difference between Henry and Zlatan. Henry was able to set aside his ego instead of getting benched, adding a treble to his cabinet👏
BS! Henry did that because he had no choice, but to do that. Zlatan has always made himself have choice. That is not the end of the world for Zlatan.

not the same kind of player, Zlatan style was not good for Barcelona
This is why I always say Henry killed it at Barca. People were expecting Arsenal numbers. His role was completely different and he still killed it. Won everything and had a good ratio considering his role
People that think he was bad or finished at barsa were not watching him play. I watched almost every Game, he was absolutely genius
I loved him at Barça
He killed it and it was my dream, a dream i thought would NEVER happen. When i heard rumours in like yeah yeah theres always rumours.
But then they actually signed him.
Back in that time a player like Henry youd think hed be there until he was finishing his career. But he came still with solid years in him and he went above and beyond my expectations. I dunno what the hell everyone else was hating. I remember back then hearing and reading articles talking about how they are getting an aging Henry and hes coming just cause they beat arsenal in the champions. But man those days were so beautiful. He played some of his best in my opinion. Others say he was at his best because of his numbers at arsenal but i think he was better at barcelona.
He was amazing and They did force him to stay on the wings a lot of times. But you could see when he came in after like 2 months he was sold into the system and he just ran with it. Everything i admired about his game. His grit, his strength, his speed but his elegance on the ball. Everyone talks about Iniesta but for a tall man that was used to just sprinting on and having his pick of the balls. He had to pick his poison and truly played like a man in his prime but also a veteran.
I loved every second of it and i still go back to watch his games in Barca. Of course he had some of his most brilliant games skill wise mesmerizing goals wise in Arsenal. Skill wise he was at his best in Arsenal. Definitely more flashier. But techinical and making runs and just reading the game. He was at his best in Barca. And then you mix with his great touches and his amazing sprints. Even seeing him be a tad bit slower in Barca he was still fast. Hes in my top 5 of all time
It's definitely a waste of his potential given what he could do and the plays he could make. Of course he's still class so he's still going to put on a good show regardless but the game at barcelona was strictly around what Iniesta xavi and messi could do and making the whole team play as a unit.
🎯🎯
That’s how good that Barca team was: that the great Thierry Henry had to support the other players.

Goes to show how amazing iniesta was as a midfielder that Pep brings in Henry but is still strategising around Iniesta
it makes sense, too many players worry about how they themselves can get into a goal scoring position or how they can get on the ball when actually it sounds simple but the end goal is for the team to score, if all u do is make a run dragging a defender away u won’t feel like you’ve done a lot but it’s better sometimes than u getting on the ball and risk losing it
Henry didnt want to make a fuss cause he wanted to play but this is like buying Haaland and making him play as a GK cause you already have Hojlund in attack
@@thisguyrighthere3 not like that at all, ur forgetting they had prime messi at the time who scored more than a goal a game and it’s no disrespect to henry but he should adapt his game around messi not vice versa cus if u get the best out of messi u win any game. Also it’s not me saying henry was wasted cus all he did was make decoy runs, there was also other great players who made decoy runs for him, like i said the goal was for the team to score and u can’t be selfish. Being selfish might help u individually score 5 more goals a season but the team might score 10 less
@@thisguyrighthere3 Lool Bad or exaggerated example, Henry could play on the wings and barca already had other players who could score like eto and messi, he was also basically asking henry not to drop into midfield or play a free role because messi was 10x better at doing that. I don't see how that compares to playing halaand in goal and Hojlund in attack.
Thierry Henry and Ronaldinho are by far my favorite living football legends, they are the reason I fell in love with football in the first place, they are part of my childhood... Henry should have won at least one or two ballon d'or in the 2003 and 2004 seasons, he was so unique and underrated back then, he was almost unstoppable and genuinely a very good all-rounder authentic player. ☯️✌️
The man in my eyes is the best there’s ever been !!! The day he left Barca … was never the same again ! 😢🔴🔵🔴
Gary Lineker & Thierry Henry - two Barça legends.
That’s part of reason of considering that Barcelona the GOAT team, and I am Real Madrid fan who suffered that Barcelona.
Love hearing Henry talk about football
Henry legend. Love his honesty
Now it makes sense why zlatan didn’t like playing for Pep 😅😂
😭😭😭😂😂🤣💔 Zlatan hates his ass asf😂
It was more fun to see Henry at Arsenal though.
The real question for Henry is, did you enjoy playing for Barcelona?
I remember watched barcelona back then when Pep became their manager. I just amazed by their gameplay and strategy. They even can passing in the box of the opponent like they’re in training. I never see that style of football before. Then after that, it called Tiki-Taks.
Our GGOAT,am happy I watched him playing from WC 1998 n he's the reason I chose Arsenal as my best football club
Much respect from Nairobi Kenya
He changed the game for the good and the ugly. Overrall teams do play more expansive and progressive football but the individual skill of a player has been coached out of him. You’ll never see a Ronaldinho or a Zidane ever again. Never mind these guys you won’t even see a Ben Arfa or a Ginola type player ever again.
It's bittersweet 😢
Very true. Ronaldinho would be subbed off in the first half nowadays.
Oscar Bobb
We had Neymar but he’s not appreciated enough, but perhaps that’s his own doing for the choices he made
We will never see a James Milner ever again.
Sad how pep turns geniuses like henry into robots, but hey he gets success so fair enough
Henry for me is a unspoken Barca player

I think he rationalizes it differently but they disrespected Thierry. There's no other way to put it. When you have a player like Thierry you don't make him play like that, I don't care who is the coach.
Pep sounds like a micro manager
That’s why he is very successful. Nothing wrong with that.

Henry favourite player back in the days.
All my friends were hating him because i smashed them in pro Evolution soccer every single game with him.
Playing decoy to Iniesta is by no means an insult. It's a privilege to just be in the team with Iniesta and Xavi and Messi
Not for Henry
Exactly! Pep sees Iniesta and them as a better player than Henry, but he will not say it directly. Henry can't even see that it is an insult. Since Henry win some trophy there, I guess he doesn't see anything insulting about it. Difference is Barcelona really don't want Henry like that, but Henry wants Barcelona.
I mean, in 2008, one was a nobody and one was the best striker in the world
it's a team play, the one that yielded great success. But I'm afraid thats exactly an established Henry felt at the time.
He's Thierry Henry, calm down. 😂😂
Before Pep, Iniesta was not even anywhere near Henry's pedigree.
Barcelona❤❤❤❤
Even Spain adopted this style of play & won everything at a point.😊
I remember Henry when he came to Juventus, he couldn't play well, Serie A was the best league at the moment.
Pep is the creator of modern football.
Just like the NBA and all the three pointers these days, it is efficient as hell but not nice to watch.
But that Barcelona playing was beautiful the passes the control and the magic

To be honest, if that's the way they play they should have had someone other than Henry, Henry's talents could have been better used somewhere else.
Right? Henry went there to be average. He would have been a greater legend somewhere else... Say Madrid
Tfym. He became a legend also got into arguably the best team in europe that time. The trio of Messi Eto and Henry was so deadly. They wrecked Madrid and whole europe winning the sextuple. He had a respectable 49 goals and 27 assists in 121 matches with tons of injuries but learnt about football in a very technical way learning more and more as a player which only made him better. Before he was a free striker and he even gained the mentality and the skills of a playmaker aswell. Him being at Barca made him improve more than he did at Arsenal but ofcourse his achievements will always be better at Arsenal.
@@f.n.rapidc8 With the way barca was dominating, there is no way an old henry would have become a legend at madrid. Remember robben, Sneijder were nobodies in madrid
The greatest player in the History of the prem became a regular player in the La Liga
Henry is not the greatest player in PL history
He also wasn’t a regular player in La Liga, was still one of the best players in the best team, just had to share he limelight a little more. The level of quality of the premier league was definitely far above la liga even then but that Barcelona team was the best in the world at that time without a doubt.

One of the greatest players in Premier league out of his prime was a really useful piece in one of the best if not the best team of all time .
I love Klopp. What a man, leader, etc etc, but Pep is next level.
Henry is way too humble . I am not kidding
Wenger created artists, Pep machines.
Sorry under pep he went from being a winner and being the guy who won you the trophy to half the player he can’t see it because he won champions league but as a player he went backwards in the French national he looked more like himself winning trophies
Wen Titi talks futbol I’m totally locked in…and I’ve never played it but I luv it!!!
T'estimem Titi!! 💙❤️
This is the beginning of players becoming a chess piece. The excitement of football is gone...
The only mistake Pep made was not buying Pires along with Henry, if they both played together and Etoo was sold to inter early then that front 3 would have been insane. Pires is perfect for the wide role and we all know how good Henry is up top.
Rubbish
having pires would be overkill. understandable since pires was already out of his prime at the time
Legend teaching legends . Thank you TT.
Pep is like a surgeon. Mastermind of the game but his style takes the joy out of the game.
He literally turned Henry to a decoy player. Only positives was, he won the UCL
Henry was an underemployed worker at Barcelona. The training and tactics these days are preventing players with pure talent from standing out.
You can tell his mind is still blown
Pep one of the greatest coaches to ever manage a team
Every player under 30 and all journalists and “pundits” should watch this, and 🤫 until they graduate from Barcelona or Pep school
So it 10 years time we will have tactical matches and NO individual brilliance of skills dribbling - The are no ballers anymore
@@carlmorris7723 Pep guardiola has the dribbliest squad in the world😂 Yes we won't have 1 man show like Ronaldinho or Neymar, but Neymar Ronaldo and even Messi played in system squad. Anyway Foden is one of the best at dribbling, so as Bernardo silva and jack graelish and doku
That's actually why his numbers dropped

id love to see Pep at a club like Liverpool where you have an average of 20mil to spend every year
As curiosity would be nice to watch that. But seems unlikely, if he wins so much, probably offers will come from teams with big budgets.
But definitely would be nice to see that.
Btw, over the last five seasons, average net spent by season: Liverpool was £43.6m (218.29 in 5 years) and City: £62.8 (314.28 in 5 years).
And over that period there were 5 teams that spent even more than city in the premier. 😅 and 8 spent more than Liverpool.

I mean, the financial fair play is definitely related, but this data is net spent. Also never claimed they spent little. There were seasons over 100 net haha.
But back to our original point, would be nice to see him at a Half/lower table team. But, as a coach that wins something every season seems unlikely he will accept a lower budget team. But I would love to see that haha.
