    1:00 - I've always loved how there's no dramatic slow motion build up to the start of that insane firefight. It's just Val Kilmer sees cops, pulls up the rifle and starts firing.

      Visually I see Collateral a stunning film, but the pacing of the dialogue between the two of them to be the one thing that slows down the pacing of the film. The filming and the action scenes is immaculately done (as usual by Mann) but the dialogue between the two in the cab going between hits for me, means I have to put Heat as number 1 and Collateral as number 2.

  • @WadeMFilms

    McCauley said in the film that he had a brother out there somewhere. But by the end of the film, I couldn’t shake off one possibility: Hanna was his brother. Maybe not literally, but he was bound to him through their sense of honor and codes, despite being opposite sides of the law, they were the same coin.

  • @NDTexan
    @NDTexan Před 3 lety +4

    What's cool is Andy McNab being a tactics adviser on this movie and the final shootout scene with the bounding overwatch techniques being essentially a remake of his SAS unit's retreat manoeuvres in Iraq before they eventually all got captured. FYI go read the book Bravo 20.

    The shootout after the bank robbery is my favorite one, so realistic; you really feel you're there. About the rest of the movie, it's a classic Mann film, very stylized, with excellent action sequences but also getting into the core psychological issues of the characters.

    I love this movie. It's remarkably good. I remember the first time I saw it, and after it ended, I was really upset about the ending. My gf at the time asked me why... I remember telling her that I would rather have seen Pacino focus down De Niro, slowly lower his gun, have a moment where they had one last exchange... Pacino saying "Go. I can't live without the chase... It's all I've got..." Then De Niro nodding, a moment of respect between the two, then just turning and walking into the darkness to catch the plane. Just imagine that...

    As much as I love these type videos and this being one of my favorite movies. I have to drop my 2 bitch cents in. The sound from the shoot out was from that day of filming but not on purpose. Mann wanted to use loud caps to make everything seem realistic while shooting but planned on doing sound over. But he couldn’t find any noice he found realistic enough and thought the sound that day sounded better then anything else they were finding. So with some adjustments he found that was best. But it was never planned
    Which is kind of cooler if you think about it

    About a decade ago I sat down and watched this movie I was bored with it. Tonight I watched it again and don’t know how I didn’t see the genius of it before. There’s a lot of symbolism hidden in the film itself.
    One that stands out the most were the “home free” moment where they drive in a tunnel of light. Then De Niro decides to kill the guy in the hotel and starts traveling down a dark highway only to say “there’s time” a reference to his dream about running out of time.
    I love that stuff and there were a lot of moments like that I missed my first time watching it. Plus the sounds of the action and the action itself.

    I watched it two weeks ago and had a religious experience. It's an actual perfect film, one of the few in existence. Not a single frame is wasted, and everything that happens to each of the characters is informed by their mindsets and decisions. It was a revelation, and nearly brought me to tears when they held hands at the end.

      Tom Noonan, who had a very small part as the guy who gives Neil the plans for the drill robbery, played The Tooth Fairy in Mann's Manhunter, the prequel to SotL.
