    Another first class production Dave, it made me smile when you used your mini Hoover to clean up the Drill mess....I'd have just blown it away!.....something no doubt that would have had you screaming with horror....Best wishes from West Wales...Bob

    Very good video David. I particularly liked your detailed "how to" descriptions for the lighting, and the reasons for selecting the best size of lights and wires. I was involved with an MRC in the mid 1970s when fairly basic technology was available to modellers, certainly nothing like that which is available now, so I have to commend your work on your layout and wish that kind of technology had been available to us years ago! I sort of fell into the role of electrical and electronics technician which essentially meant that I started off knowing nothing at all about the task in hand and learning along the way, very often the hard way. It was great fun tho, and we were very successful at exhibitions, but a young growing family curtailed the adventures! Must say a final word on your scenic background. It's quite simply the best, most realistic scenery I've ever seen. What I assume to be photos at some points are particularly impressive. I'd love to see your layout if you ever exhibit it. Please let me know. Best wishes. Ken

    stunning work dave the micro l.e.d. look really good just the right effect . The stock running through the station looks the part and reminds me of the early 1990s with all the great liveries and different stock excellent work keep the videos coming mate .

      Union Pacific hi, welcome! Thanks for getting in touch.
      I hope you continue to enjoy what I do, please feel free to share my videos comment on them. I would really love more viewers who model the USA, it’s something I don’t do but I find fascinating to compare the two rail networks. :-) thanks again. Dave

    Looking good Dave, the lights in the vans are spot on, any lighter and they would glow orange and look stupid, its a shame you can't open them up to add people inside, but cracking little scene. Andy

    Inspirational stuff Dave - giving me too many ideas and temptations to rekindle my long ago toying with trains (so to speak!). With all of those LEDs around the layout, I would be tempted to lay a two or three volt bus (it can share a common earth with the 12 v point bus) just to cut out on all of the resistors that would need to be added for 12 volts. Loving the OHLE stuff too. Had thought of making masts along the lines you have shown, but needing to adapt them for 1500 volts DC (for Woodhead), but as my layout will be tiny compared to yours, I will attempt to add the wires.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 6 lety +1

      hi thanks. So you are saying if I put one resistor in a bus wire then connected all the resistors to that wire then it would suffice? I was under the understanding that I needed a resistor with every LED.

    • @pierre-de-standing
      @pierre-de-standing Před 6 lety

      LEDs work from a range of about 1.5 volts to about 5, depending on the colour. There are two things about LEDs, you need to limit both the voltage and the current. Having individual resistors will do both jobs. If you have a single bus for groups of identical LEDs you will need to make sure that the voltage is correct and the overall current is limited, otherwise the LEDs will act like a short circuit across the bus. There are two ways you could wire your LEDs, in series or in parallel. If we assume a supply of 12 volts, LEDs that run at 2 volts and with a current of 15mA, then in series, the voltage drop would be (12 - (3x2)) / 0.015 which is 400 ohms. As resistors come in certain values, the nearest would be 390 or 470 ohms. If you wired them in parallel, you would have a voltage drop of 10 volts and current of 45mA (3 x 15), so the value is 200 ohms. There is a formula to work out the correct value of resistor. Here is a link to a calculator led.linear1.org/led.wiz - HTH. BTW your modeling skills are fantastic, it is taking me some time to catch up from vid no. 1, but you are becoming like a mentor (and hero) to hundreds of modelers!
      So next week I take delivery of two class 76s a class 77 a 31 and two class 110 DMUs and then I need to start building - can I blame you if my wife gets cross? I also have a class 45 and 08 languishing in a cupboard somewhere. I'll get them chipped and way we go. Thanks for all of your inspiration so far!

      Hi, thanks for those bits of advice and for the kind words. I like to share my progress, its a kind of video diary and history of my layout as well, I often look back on my own videos to remind myself how I did things! I am so grateful that other people want to share in this. Cheers. Dave

    As someone in street lighting the column height is a tad too big for the situation. They would typically be 5m high with residential streets 6m, main highway 10m and dual carriageways 12m.
    Love the videos so much it's inspired me to do my own and also join the local model railway club. Keep up the good work 👍

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      Hi, I looked for the actual heights online, but came up with conflicting results, so I gave up and went outside and I measured my street for the height....I looked a bit stupid outside with a 5m tape measure. I did the best I could lol. Thanks. Dave

    excellent job
    i came across these connectors and i think they would be great for the lamps
    2 Spring Connector Wire With No Welding No Screws Quick Connector Cable Clamp Terminal Block 2 Way Easy Fit For Led Strip you can get them on ebay
    they are spring loaded so they need no screw to hold the wire in place so would be much easier when using them under the layout
    hope this helps

    I am in awe of your attention to detail, thanks for producing this great video. Just as matter of interest how many trains can you have running on your layout at anyone time. Cheers Greg

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      Hi, thanks. On my layout I have 3 lower lines and 2 upper mainlines So safely I can have 5 trains running, but due to the size I can get 2 trains on each of the upper, but it requires a bit of concentration! So I tend to run 5-7 trains. Cheers. Dave

    Great update and lovely caravan lighting, although the street lights for a caravan park are very bright so maybe worthwhile playing with some different resistors. Cheers :)

      DaveClass47 always the case, same as sound, sometimes cameras focus on it more making it sound louder than it is. If it looks good with your eyes then great! Cheers :)

      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety +1

      I will have a tinker with the resistors. But yeah, I agree the camera can make it different from what it is. But thanks for your observation....I will investigate this week lol. Cheers. Dave

    That caravan park is a great solution to the corner site on the layout, will you be adding dinosaurs?
    Love the lighting. I wonder if it might be a good idea to attach the micro-led to a matchstick (or cocktail stick) when inserting through the base board, and gluing them. This would both increase the stability of the very fine wire and also enable you to 'peg' the caravans 'permanently' in position. You could (have?) position the lights in different positions in the caravans. What a shame you can't open them to install curtains/blinds…

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi, thanks. Its a real shame you cant open them up as I would have put partition walls in and had certain parts lit and others not. Still, a decent Bachmann product. Cheers. Dave

  • @trainsontuesday
    @trainsontuesday Před 7 lety

    Excellent job as always Dave but one thing I might have done differently is I would have put both street lights on one side of the road so that my oo scale crews would not have to trench across the road for their underground wiring. Cheers, David.

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      Hi, thanks. I see what you're saying lol. You have to imagine that the road continues off scene and that there are a row of lights one each side....so a trench each side of the road? ;-) Cheers. Dave

    Correct lighting does make a difference to a layout Dave and you have got yours just right. What a shame Bachmann don't make the roof or floor removable. Are they actually made in one piece I wonder? Cheers, Bob

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      Hi, yes one piece. The windows and doors look like they are fitted from the outside after the resin has hardened and been painted etc. Thanks for saying they look just right. Might tinker with the street lights but its a small issue. Cheers Bob. Dave

    Very nice level of light, and no light bleeding out, in the caravans. Did you have to experiment with the size of resistor or did you have a good idea anyway? Looking good in that corner and another good bit of progress. Cheers

    • @DeanPark
      @DeanPark  Před 7 lety

      hi, I just bought some 50k resistors at an exhibition, but you can get them from any electronic shop for pennies. Also the LED's were from Expressmodels www.expressmodels.co.uk/acatalog/led.html they are a 4 pack of mini LED's in warm white. hope that helps. cheers.
