    Hi Dan. Enjoy all your videos and especially your new mini firewood. Can you please explain your kiln drying process in order to get certification. Do you have your own kiln?

    Nice process Dan. It's especially nice that you have Little Boss Man involved... building great work ethics and spending quality time with your son. It doesn't get any better than that!

    I just received my first of two boxes with the firewood rack combo and it is fantastic! The fun factor alone makes it totally worth it to have the WarmBond Mini and your rack and wood. I watched a few (ok, more than a few) of your videos and am jealous of your log splitter that cuts and splits.

      Welcome to the channel, glad you found it and are hopefully enjoying the content. The only downside with the mini firewood rack is that once you stack all the wood in it, it almost looks too nice to burn...lol

    Nice glimpse at the backroom packing and shipping process! Thanks for the content. it keeps me thinking about my own processing.
    QQQ: Need a favor from you, please? I process cherry wood, oak and maple in 20" logs, then down to 10" splits for BBQ/smoker wood.
    Also do some 5" stuff (from the 10's) for other cooking requirements. We even chop down the 5" lengths (rejects) into 2.5" chunks to make charcoal.
    *So, now the favor:
    -We've seen your front end process, receiving lengths, cutting into logs and splitting.
    -We/ve seen just a little bit of LBM and yourself doing some hatchet work to get down to the mini-wood.
    -And, now the packaging/shipping.
    *How about some fancy editing, showing the front end, then a little more detail in the middle, getting from the larger splits, down to the Mini size, then you can add this packaging video to the end, and we would have a Start-to-finish look at the process?
    My latest process changes:
    I've put a 14" wood blade on an old metal chopsaw. The idea being, split the 20"s down more thinly, then chopsaw the 10's and 5s into totes.
    Also, Instead of a hatchet and log, I built two "Kindling Cracker" knock offs, screwed them to logs, and do final splitting that way, it's safer and overall quicker than the hatchet on a log method.
    Suggestion: Think about upgrading LBM to a Kindling Cracker fixture.
    On AMZN, just search "kindling splitter" you will see the plethora of choices.

    You are far from a hobbyist my man! You sell more wood than some people that do it as a full time job haha. Your e-commerce store for the mini splits is well done, I'm always impressed with your attention to detail and technical aptitude. I'm a software engineer / web application developer and I run a small firewood business on the side. We are cut from the same cloth!! 🤣

    Great look at your Back 40 back room! Just curious… How often do you send splits to the kiln and how many hours to cure the wood suitable for shipping?? What volume do you dry each batch?? I may have missed that episode.

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  Před měsícem

      It's not that long of a process because the wood only needs to reach an internal temperature of 140 degrees for 60 mins.

      All the shipping rates are calculated through the program I use online...depending on weight and destination they can vary. I also quote out and compare USPS to UPS and that varies as well depending on where I'm shipping to.

    $28 and free shipping sure doesn't seem like enough to make decent margins on the product considering all of the time put into cutting, splitting, drying (and paying to kiln dry), coordinating kiln drying, shipping materials, packing, etc. Hope it works out for you!

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  Před měsícem +1

      When compared to other vendors selling on Amazon it may not, but they are also paying a listing fee, a referral fee, and a closing/processing fee to Amazon. I've looked into selling on Amazon and one day I may, but it will also be at a higher price to make up for all the fees.

  • @waynetharp

    Not quite how I pictured it...I assumed it would be dark/gloomy lighting, about 120 degrees and just 1 broken fan, and several dozen under feed illegal immigrants working 18 hour shifts. But this way works also!👍👍
    I might suggest a top side sticker or stamp for your boxes. 50/50 chance means I have a 100% chance of opening the wrong side!😃
