My great grandfather was in the British Indian Army during world war 2. His best mate in the British Indian army was a batchmate from Attock in Pakistan. In World War 2, they fought together in North Africa and Italy. My great grandfater was unfortunately injured and captured by the Germans in Italy. They removed all his nails and severed his toes. When he was taken Prisoner of War, his friend was just itching to go out and search for him. But his commanders wouldn't allow him, understandably. Later, when my great grandfather escaped imprisonment and rejoined his unit, only his mate was the one who ran out and hugged him instead of pointing an Enfield rifle at him and screaming, like the other British soldiers did. Both of them survived the war and returned back to India (back then it was undivided India). After Independence, both of them joined their respective armies. My great grandfather was summoned for the 1948 war and so was his friend. But they didn't fight against each other, luckily. My great grandfather's regiment ran through the Pakistani army in pushing them back to Skardu from Srinagar (approx 150 km) and my great grandfather would say that the scariest part of the entire war were not bullets and bombs. The scariest and most nerve wracking was the time when they would scan and prepare Pakistani casualties for cremation (Pakistan refused to accept the bodies so Indian soldiers would bury them and mark the stones with name, age, etc). His biggest fear was that he might uncover the faces of some of his friends from Pakistan, and especially his best friend. Thankfully, he never had to do that. My great grandfather never got to visit him in Pakistan, nor did he get a chance to visit my great grandfather in India, because of my grandfather's service in the Indian army. But they remained in touch for a long time. Later, in 2010, their family had come to India for a surgery, and we got to host them. Both of the old men had passed by then, but the families knew each other, and they stayed with us for 3 months. Hopefully we were able to serve them well enough to make my great grandfather proud. His friend's name was 2nd Lieutenant Naseer Khan, from Attock, which used to be known as Campbellpur, and he lived in a locality called Dokh Sarfh. I don't know if that place still exists. My great grandfather lived with him for two years just before the war in Dokh Sarfh. He had bought a large piece of land there, as he planned to settle there in Attock, but he was told after the war to just forget about the land as it became too hostile for a Hindu family to live with Hindu women and children so deep within Pakistan. It remained his biggest regret ever, as he wanted to live the rest of his life in Attock. Until his last day, he would get very happy whenever we showed him pictures of Attock. Sadly, he never got to visit Attock ever again. Attock was his most favourite place in the whole world. Just thought you'd be interested in a small story. I'm sorry if I exceeded my liberties and I apologize for it.
Everyone’s experience is difference You should know that in Pakistan most children are taught in mixed accent so many get this British American accent so most students have mixed accent and some might have teachers that speak in proper accent which is why they adapt that way like for me I grew up in Canada so my accent is Canadian I think you shouldn’t judge people because just coz you have Pakistani accent doesn’t mean others should have desi accent too there’s nothing wrong with having American accent or British accent because some people just learned it that way
