- Written to honor the life and work of Dr. Stephen L. Gage, all proceeds go to the funding of music scholarships in Steve's name at both Youngstown and Indiana State Universities. Dr. Gage was a legendary teacher and conductor who inspired everyone with his tremendous love for music and passionate performances. This piece embodies all of his qualities as a person as well as all the qualities of music he loved. A TALE SO TALL encapsulates that boundless imagination and passion Steve passed on to all those that knew him and learned from him.

Even for me, I enjoy every performance of this piece. There’s so much energy and excitement and hearing young musicians perform it so enthusiastically is always a blast, and Steve would have gotten a kick out of that as well.

@@AnthonyOTooleMusic I was not. I had the privilege of having him as a conductor in the Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra for a year, and I got to see him conduct many times.
