Hey Nelson nice to meet you. I'm a long time sub of Eric Rosen and Levy Rozman and they're content just got a little stale for me the past couple months. I'm glad I found your channel because you keep me more engaged. I don't feel too relaxed like I'm with a friend, but I also dont feel the tension of your typical lecturer. I guess you could say I'm vibing ^-^
This is the same with me!
He focuses more on chess than content
Absolutely true! Nelson brings interesting chess tips. That gotham clown is just clickbaiting for views.
Another youtuber I would recommend is Chesscoach Andras Toth! He's really good.
I love those guys personally but I do agree with the staleness. Nelson kicks ass with instructive value which says a lot considering he's "only" NM.
The "hanging pawns" channel also has a lot of good actual chess stuff as well, especially extensive opening prep - ie not just "here's an opening in 10 minutes and now I'll play a game with subs"
@@nathanielkroeger9769 i would also recommend chess talk, he makes good trap video's, and good openings
These videos (this and the Rook vs. Knight) are LEGENDARY. Very few videos were helpful covering this topic, but now I totally understand what to look for when headed towards these endgames! Thank you Nelson!
Nelson, you've been killing it on this channel lately. Been loving it.
Didn't even know black can draw this, super helpful
Oh yes, an endgame of Rook against a minor piece (bishop or knight) and no pawns, is a theoretical draw always!
Got my rating up about 75 points since watching your vids. Thanks!
Super cool video! I am adding this to my endgame knowledge arsenal.
Superb content as always! Thank you so much.
Really helpful!! Thank you for the video!
Love the endgame video, having the right technique can determine whether you win or lose if you want to trade straight into an endgame
Yeah your content is great. I like the 3 position videos and stump the chump. Pretty fun and unique to your channel
This is great!
Love your videos
I’ve played a lot of chess games in my life and have yet to experience this endgame. Now thanks to Master Nelson, I know what to do when it happens. Great video as always!
Good job Nelson!
Love ur content
Nice content, keep going. You are helping me a lot I'm able to get through 800 rating
Useful information
Thanks once again.
6:32 what if he goes bishop f2?
I wondered the same thing, so I checked it out using stockfish. You can go Ra3, threatening checkmate. If your opponent moves Kf8, you can move Rf3, forking the bishop. Otherwise, the technique from Nelson's video can be applied.
Please make a video for queen and rook endgame
Nelson sir please make a video on imbalances
1:00 right corner
2:57 on the center of the board
5:26 wrong corner
Can you make a video on how to actually get to the square that's needed if you've got a bishop against a rook?
now this is a real theme for a chess video, maybe do a serie for finale concepts
Love the tips, is there a pc chess game that you can recommend to develop your skills?
very good teacher
min 6:33: Rh3 is actually not the correct idea, since Bf4 is still possible, but after Rg1 Bf4 is impossible due to Kf5+, so Bh2 is force and only then Rg2 (controlling h2 and g3 and f4 with the discovery)
its helpful
Suppose chess is played with the rule stalemate = win. As the "wrong corner" drawing trick in the K+R vs K+B endgame relies on stalemate, does this mean the ending would now be a win for the side with the rook?
This question can be answered by changing the programming for a tablebase so that stalemate = win, and it turns out the ending is still drawn in the general case. There are more starting positions that win, of course - it can take up to 23 moves to checkmate, stalemate, or capture the bishop. However, in most positions the side with the bishop draws with correct play, which mainly involves keeping their king off the edge of the board and away from the corners.
I've always known that KRvKB is usually a draw, but I never realized there are a few nuances in certain positions that could cause the KR side to win.
I once saved a game by exchanging all the pawns and going into R vs B ending. Counting on the 50 moves rule as the kings were in the middle of the board.
idk which view but now i can win a rook vs bishop endgame
It's actually amazing that the guy had 3 minutes and didn't use them properly
Isn't it safer for Black to try and stay in the center with his King? (instead of walking to the side of the board, aiming at that corner of no-bishop color) ??
Can you do an algorithm of how to force a checkmate on a king with a bishop starting from a standard position like E4 .
At 6:35, can't the bishop just go to the f file? I don't see a way to force the bishop off the f,g and h files. The rook can cover 2 files, but not all 3.
I wondered the same thing, so I checked it out using stockfish. You can go Ra3, threatening checkmate. If your opponent moves Kf8, you can move Rf3, forking the bishop. Otherwise, the technique from Nelson's video can be applied.
6:30 what about bf2? The bishop seems to keep switching between the f,g and h files to me.
Ra3 (threatening Ra8#), Kf8 (only real way to prevent mate), Rf3+ (forks the bishop)
I just had this happen and I've never seen it before in playing for almost 5 years. I had the bishop and my opponent kept offering me a draw, but I said if I were him I wouldn't do that. Because I wasn't convinced he could beat me, even though I knew I couldn't win. So after trying for a while he said why don't we flip the board so I had the rook, and I said sure. After about 10 moves I forked his pieces and would have gone onto win. He kept saying mathematically he thought this should be a draw, and he would be right that it should be a draw. Yet neither of us knew that at the time or how to make it happen. Always keep playing, it just might make you better.
Is there King and Queen vs King, Rook and Bishop upload?
At 6:30 why can’t the bishop hop back and forth and avoid going to a spot that the rook can create the double threat?
Hey Nelson, just discovered your channel! I feel like you give great explanations for basic to intermediate concepts. Will be subbing and coming back! Keep it up!
Welcome aboard!
Now I just have to remember this for the next time it happens to me in maybe 5 or 6 years from now
I just played as bishop vs Rook . And it ended with a draw 🎉🎉🎉
What if, using the opening position, it's Black to move?
I got this against nelson. I blundered the rook and hence drew but I could have won I think?
I did not know that.
6:35 can‘t the Bishop go to f4?
Ra3 after Kf8 there's a fork
6:36 why can't bishop move to f4? that would be draw
Beginner here. So basically if Im black, its impossible to win with a bishop and king- best you can do is a draw against a king and rook?
This vid got a lot of views!
dude i always say "2200s cant play chess" :p
0.75 speed thank me later
