- A month after Hurricane Charley devastated North Captiva, I started working on the island, first as a painter, then as operations manager for a builder, a fancy name for a jack-of-all-trades and gofer . I ran the skiff, often several times a day, on the 12 mile round trip from the island to the marina on Pine Island. I created and managed the company website and photographed our progress in building and repairing damaged homes. I lived on the island 5 days a week for five years, going home on weekends.

I love this place!
I really miss North Captiva. The first night I spent there, I awakened in the middle of the night, went outside, and could see stars that I hadn't seen in years in the black sky that is overwhelmed by city lights.
I know you guys mean well…..but man, that twang music is too much..
When will people learn the fact that barrier islands are not for residential or commercial use????🤑🤡👎
Never.
People will do what they want. So will you.
...some people are satisfied with just existing, being "wise", and "safe"...others aren't enslaved by that mindset...these people have an overwhelming desire to 'live' life to it's fullest...their desire is to experience life, and live it to it's fullest...to live until they die...that's me...I'm not, practical...I crave living on one of these barrier islands...appreciating, to the fullest the incredible beauty, and finiteness of life on the age...you may want to believe that avoiding all danger will insure a long life, or, existence...but you to are at the mercy of time and chance❤
