    Question: For the northern hemisphere, is the earth most tilted away from the sun (i.e. during winter) exactly when it's orbit is also closest to the sun? Is there a scientific explanation either way? (for example, is it a cause and effect thing?)

    • @jessevargas3289
      @jessevargas3289 Před rokem +1

      To answer the first part of your question is yes. orbits in space are usually elliptical, not sure why, but this causes the planet to alternate distances between itself and the sun around the planets revolution around the sun. Maybe it’s a coincidence the earth faces towards the sun when it’s furthest away and same for the opposite in winter(for the northern hemisphere) I gotta look it up myself now

      @@fromnorway643 I can see the big dipper year round from GA. And Orion comes over just a bit before that. It's certainly not 180 degrees in the opposite direction as it should be according to the Heliocentric model. The other factor on the Geocentric model is that the sun is in closer and the days are longer. This limits the time stars are visible in the night sky. It has nothing to do with the position of earth in some crazy orbit around a giant sun hurtling through outer space connected by silly "gravity."

    It's actually at 28.5 now according to Nasa. Not 23.5. They posted the fact that the earth was shifted off it's Axis by 5 degrees and trying to work it's way back.lol. As I can recall my science teachers taught me that if the earth leaves it's Axis by even 1degree we're all F.....ed. We got 5 degrees. So, that makes it at. 28.5 now. I'm pretty sure it was the gravitational force of the 5000 year old super moon that showed up for it's last and final pedecree cycle in 2016 February 14. As it's done before 5000 years ago. The Earth's axial tilt is 23.44 degrees according to NASA's Earth Fact Sheet updated on 21 December 2021. A five degree change would drastically change the location and timing of the midnight sun and polar night, something that would be _very_ noticeable in northern and central Norway.
      However, the Moon's distance from the celestial equator can be up to 28.5 degrees since its orbit is tilted 5 degrees relative to the plane of the Earth's orbit (the ecliptic). That's why it is possible to experience a "24-hour Moon" as far as 5 degrees south of the Arctic circle or north of the Antarctic circle and why we don't get an eclipse at every new or full Moon.
