  • Recently the famous preacher Creflo Dollar released a new sermon on biblical tithing. Everybody is talking about his claims on tithing and how the New Testament doesn't say that Christians are supposed to tithe. Here is that clip along with scriptures and my response to this teaching according to the Bible.

I used to tithe in my beginning walk with the Lord because it was taught at our church . Our pastors always taught us if we did we would be blessed. Malachi scripture..meanwhile they are driving 80 000 dollar cars each and traveling the world not to mention living in a mansion over looking the ocean etc..I tithed faithfully because I earnestly wanted to please God and be obedient. I kept my relationship strong with the Lord and read my Bible and prayed . I eventually got tired of the religious feeling of it and asked God for myself if this was really necessary? He said clearly it's under the Law. I was relieved and then a bit mad at our pastors for teaching us false teachings..I felt deceived. We left that church after 8 yrs and learned that many others did the same. Sadly. We now have our own family church in our own home following the Bible and the Holy Spirit.

I’ve been there… but hopefully you see that whoever is teaching should be helped… so I hope whoever the teacher is at your home gathering is getting some type of help for his work and efforts…

If you are a believer you will want to give to the Lord because you know He will give it back. Giving to the Lord is showing appreciation. I am guilty of not giving enough. Generosity should be a trait of Christians.

I teach that we’re supposed to give just because He says so

If tithing was mandatory, Paul would have said it was. He said to give cheerfully and generously. He never said a percentage. Also, the Jewish people wanted to require the new believers to follow all their requirements like circumcision, food, etc and Paul plainly said they are not required to do so. How much plainer can it be? Of course, there are bills that need to be paid so we need to give to the church. However, many churches pressure people to give 10% when this can be a hardship for their situation and it is not a requirement for Christians.

You were doing good until you got to Matt 23, Jesus lived by the law of Mosesand wasn’t until Matt 27 after His death did the new covenant begins and tithing was ripped away! Jesus was reprimanding the leaders of that time and the gospel of grace was the teaching of Paul not Jesus!

Giving to the poor is like lending to the Lord and He will surely pay it back. I believe giving to the poor can be a form of tithing. I think giving as a form of compassion is important. Another proverb says Whoever closes their ears to the cries of the poor will himself cry out and not be answered. Proverbs 21-13.
