Lyrics:
I don't need your rockin' chair
Your Geritol or your Medicare
Well I still got Neon in my veins
This grey hair don't mean a thing
I do my rockin' on the stage
You can't put this possum in a cage
My body's old but it ain't impaired
Well I don't need your rockin' chair
I ain't ready for the junkyard yet
Cause I still feel like a new corvette
It might take a little longer but I'll get there
Well I don't need your rockin' chair
I don't need your rockin' chair
Your Geritol or your Medicare
Well I still got Neon in my veins
This grey hair don't mean a thing
I do my rockin' on the stage
You can't put this possum in a cage
My body's old but it ain't impaired
Well I don't need this rockin' chair
Retirement don't fit in my plans
You can keep your seat I'm a gonna stand
An Eskimo needs a Fridgedaire
Like I need your rockin' chair
I don't need your rockin' chair
Your Geritol or your Medicare
Well I still got Neon in my veins
This grey hair don't mean a thing
I do my rockin' on the stage
You can't put this possum in a cage
My body's old but it ain't impaired
Well I don't need your rockin' chair
My body's old but it ain't impaired
Well I don't need your rockin' chair
Uh huh.
I love this song, and at 64 and 2/3, the older I get the better I love it. I unloaded a pick up truck full of mulch, busing a shovel and a rake only, in 4 hours.🤣🤣🤣
My Dad's favorite song, mine too!
There's no doubt about it George Jones was one hell of a country singer.
George Joneb was real,,genuine, country.
Thank You
George roared into the 90's under full power. This song is proof of that!
He quit drinking. Imagine the shows if he'd only drank in moderation.💙💙💙
Damn right!! Hail the possum
You can say that again. He killed everybody without a doubt in his Day. No body to hold a match to. I still dont think luke colmes is the only dimond in the dirt. Just wait till i get my stuff out There. Lol
The POSSUM!😉👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
There only bee. One George Jones
When George did the little figure 8 motion with his guitar, you knew it was going to be a good song
How can you not love it?? Pure magic. Look how happy the musicians are, to be backing him! We miss ya' George, who's gonna' fill *YOUR* shoes?
Nobody will ever fill his shoes!
@@miztersport8395 Right? How I miss those golden days of the 80s and 90s. Not a single soul on radio compares now.
Look how happy George is! I'm used to him singing sad ballads and crying to his songs.
@@natalieshannon7659 Right? He seemed to really be havin' a ball at this show. I wish I could have been there!
Certainly not any of these new so called country singers.
My brother was handicapped and didn't get out to do much of the stuff we normally take for granted. We both loved classic country music and grew up on it. I made it a point to get my brother out to the George Jones concert at our county fair when he came to town - ran him in a wheelchair over all kinds of fair cords just to barely get there on time. Looked over and saw him singing along to the Corvette song. My brother passed away this February. His caregiver knew how much he liked country music and George Jones - and suggested this. They played I Don't Need Your Rockin' Chair at his funeral.
Sorry for your loss ❤️
This comment is 2 yrs old but my prayers for your family. ❤️
POSSUM!!! I don't need No rockin Chair! I'm 67. Still can't keep this possum in a cage! I love my Georges. 🎶😊
At 81 years old, This song is my song of resistance to giving in and giving up! Listen and sing along many times a week and it energizes me every time👍😏
Possum, you don't need a rocking chair because you are flying with the Lord's Choir! Miss you lots. Your voice and your legend will live for a long long time.
Way to make the old feel young and to spread the message that no matter your age you can still have a zest for life.

George Jones would never want to be called "king" He is the possum.

I was at this concert in Knoxville, Tn...! On the first row. It was videotaped and I still have a copy. George was wired. I've seen him several times, but this was the best.
what year was this? had to be the early 90s
Lucky
You are so lucky to have been and seen the great George Jones perform.
Growing up in Texas in the 60's, I was never a fan of country music, and truthfully, I'm still not. I was born and raised in Port Arthur and I was a Janis Joplin fan - rock and roll all the way. But I LOVE me some George Jones! Some days I listen to him all day and I thank God for youtube and for all the good people who upload these old videos for our enjoyment.
How do you grow up in texas an not like country music
Gotta be one of the best performances I’ve ever seen, even if you’re not a country music fan how can George not make you want to move and rock with him?
George was always my Mom's favorite, and in turn, he became mine. Her favorite was The Grand Tour. Fast forward to when I became a father myself, the first song that I taught my daughter was the Grand Tour. She's 15 now, and can still sing it, no problem. Like the Possum, my mom is no longer with us, but her legacy lives on, and so will his! Thank God for great moms and real country music!
Real country music
At age 18 to join special forces (A Ranger equivalent of the Israeli army) after 8 months training we ran-walked 70 kilometers in 28 hours no sleep.Full pack, I lugged more than my weight often 30 kilometers a night on foot patrol for 6 years and 2 wars -plus.YESTERDAY age 66 I gratefully received my rocking chair I love it Thank G-d.

My mama. Rest her soul. Today would be her birthday. She raised me on George and all the great oldies. So kudos to mama I’m still listening. ❤️❤️

Yes. First time I heard it on the radio long time ago so good what a good lyrics I love this song it's 2023 still listening to George Jones. How are you Dorothy ?
Now this is country
Great song. Thank you George. We love you and miss you. RIP.......
To watch your 84 year old granny singing this and blasting it on her tv all day, ..haha damn I miss her.
Rip Susie K. You was a tough ass woman, an outlaw and rebel in your own right,...yet so gentle and kind,.... you'll never be forgotten. ❤️💯
Miss her stories of helping her daddy run the Steele as a little girl, getting in trouble for cooking a whole chicken, feathers and all at age 10 cause she was mad at having to catch it and kill it....oh she had stories for days. ...and some odd songs that I've never heard besides her singing them,...like a froggie went a courting and he did ride um hum ....haha 😆! She sure was a dandy.
4/1934- 11/2020. She lived to be 86, but had dementia, so in her later years she didn't talk or sing as much anymore, but always loved listening to the last days. Ended up losing her to covid about this time last year. I'm listening to all her old favs.
What a country artist, and a showman. Love you, George! Your the best. RIP
Love the way they drive fans mad
Greatest singer ever ! Love you George
Tracy Lawrence killed it... great vocals! George Jones was one of a kind...
Tracy Lawrence sang one line of backup. 🙄🤦♀️
2024 and STILL rocking with the greatest Country artist EVER!
I am a metal head by nature, but I love me some old school country music. And Mr. George Jones is one of my favorite entertainers of all time. And to the ones that say country music is sad or boring, open your eyes and ears.... George was ROCKIN' on this night!!
well put!! That's why many " metal heads " such as yourself like guys like George and Waylon. Good music is good music, regardless of genre. Incidentally, Waylon was a big fan of Metallica and James Hatfield and Waylon were pals. I mean no offence by the term "metalhead" by the way.
Tommy Petersen and don't forget about Hank Williams Jr
Jamie Shaffer michaelsummers
How many of his fan that been in the town that he was born I been there at least 100 time
@@tommypetersen2540 Exactly !! Look up James Hetfield's version of Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit's Done Got Out of Hand , it is awesome ! ( Also no metalhead is going to get offended by calling them a metalhead, )
Now this us truly amazing reminds me of first time seen George long before he became no show Jones he lost his element for a minute but came back stronger then ever, before he passed went from all he'll Tammy and them went through, just like Johnny Cash with his pills, they both got back in for a minute but in the end they both quit but took such a toll on lives from doing for so long, it truly came back in long run lost two greats and reality how folks rolled in day didn't think twice till was to late, a damm Shame but true story, like we lost so many others mostly way to young, you all was a lot older, but no matter what genre's if music you come from don't let it take your life over, only imagine in this day what u could have been besides leaving us way to soon too Your potential...
God is so lucky and so is Jesus Christ, they get to hear George Sing in heaven!
George was on fire. Wow what a great song
You never needed the rocking chair George but I sure hope you're enjoying one up there anyway. Your work on earth is done. You deserve the rest. Thank you for leaving your talent here for us to enjoy. RIP
This song is so cornball. It’s horrible!!!

He was one of the greatest country music singers of all times. This is when country music was real country music.
Damn I sure do miss George . He was true country . NOT the shit they play today !
We love you George and miss you dearly. We love all your imperfections you make us all feel more human. Your just the best. Thanks for the ride.
It doesn’t matter how many times I listen to this song it just gets better just to see how much he is enjoying it wow if only we had time machines
How one man could entertain and do so much with just hisvvoive
The King
Wow! Thanks to the Possum. For giving us your Best
Good luck getting today's audience up on their feet like that. Phenomenal.
Yep.
Friends in low places can't even do this
No doubt. Theres no artist out there who can do what Mr George Jones does to a crowd, R,I,P, Mark,
Danny M [[
Those were the best of days!
There may be a 1000+ MULLETS in that arena and on that stage, but there is ONLY ONE GEORGE JONES!!! 😂🤣😂❤️❤️❤️
Nothing beats the “Uhh Huhhhh” at the end
George Jones est vraiment unique, il n`y aura jamais un autre comme lui. Seigneur ce que j`aime cet homme, il me fait me sentir vivante et bien dans ma peau. Il me fait relaxer quand je l`écoute. Lise Dubois
Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is real country. Luke Bryant, Hunter Hayes, start taking tips.
Man, I'm glad to hear that others understand. I grew up on this music and today's "country" and I say that very loosely because that's what people call it, can never compare.

This is the BEST.
I love these songs
chazzycat1992 Amen they all need to be taking notes
Met George about 8 months before he passed...felt like a lil kid ....raised on GJ...loved him til the end..now I still do...hoping I'll feel this way at 83...53 now....think I'll make it
When George was on he was on. When not was not. Buying George tickets back in the day was like buying chocolate you never knew what you were getting.
True
You two need tweezers taken to you...pluck out your eardrums and give them to a poor deaf soul (if only for one day)
He was fired up for this performance
I play this for my 71 year old daddy a lot. I’d have loved to met Mr Jones.
George Jones is #1forever brother he's rockin up in heaven
George Jones is the best country singer ever you are going to missed.Much love and respect
Mark Chestnutt "This hey grair don't mean a thang"
I’m not American, nor do I have any American genes. But this kinda music makes me homesick for a place I’ve never been, and makes me want to move to a farm outside a small town in Tennessee and live a simple, quiet life
Take notes young bucks. This is pure country gold
I love George Jones
Now this is country music!
he was one of the best singers in life
Are you kidding, look and listen to the crowd, that says it all, God Bless you George!
