  • Maybe you’ve seen the ads with Ryan Reynolds and are curious about Mint Mobile. Well, folks, I tried it. I switched from one of the biggest carriers: AT&T. And in this Mint Mobile review, I’m going to tell you ALL about it.
Use my unique link! You'll get 3 months free, and I'll get free Mint too. Win-win: fbuy.me/sWDAn
Plans start at just $15 bucks, and include high speed data, plus unlimited talk and text.

Cell phone service is one of those expenses that you can’t live without. Honestly, I’d rather give up TV than unlimited data. But it can get expensive. Luckily, these days there are a lot of choices when it comes to which cell phone carrier to pick. There are the big ones, of course: AT&T, Verizon, T Mobile, Sprint. But in the last few years, several budget cell phone carriers and budget cell phone service plans have popped up.
Probably the most famous of those is Mint Mobile. It has 5G, plans that include unlimited talk and text, unlimited data, and 5 gb of hotspot per month. And their plans start at just $15 per month. That’s a cheap cell phone plan.
It kinda seems like a scam, right? Before Mint Mobile, I was used to paying 5-7x that. So what’s the catch? Is Mint Mobile really a cheap cell phone carrier? Which cell phone service is the best? Which cell phone carrier is right for you? Well, you don’t have to switch your cell phone service to find out or even trust the (hilarious) antics of Ryan Reynolds. Because I already did.
In this Mint Mobile review, I’ll tell you everything you need to know about what Mint Mobile’s service is like. I’ll specifically be covering Mint Mobile vs. AT&T / AT&T vs. Mint Mobile. I won’t address Mint Mobile vs. Verizon / Verizon vs. Mint Mobile or Mint Mobile vs. T Mobile / T Mobile vs. Mint Mobile or Mint Mobile vs. Sprint / Sprint vs. Mint Mobile. But, honestly, the same principles apply to any cell service you might be coming from.
So, is it worth it to switch to Mint Mobile? Is Mint Mobile a scam? Is Ryan Reynolds’ the mad scientist of cell phone service he appears to be? Watch and find out.

I found out recently that I was spending over $1,700 a year for a single line on Verizon with a grandfathered unlimited plan that they had been throttling for years and trying to convince us that they hadn't so when I recently dropped to Verizon and switched to Mint mobile because the T-Mobile service here is perfectly fine it's got coverage pretty much everywhere I went from $145 a month to $30 a month and my service runs pretty much the same but at nearly a fifth of the cost it's amazing

My wife and I are on Verizon, and this was pretty tempting. We have iPhones, but the problem came in when we asked about the Apple Watch’s. Even though Mint is just reselling T-Mobile, Mint does not support the stand alone watches. This was a deal-breaker for us. We use our watches a LOT, so this was another go. Pity, because this is a great plan!

Switched my entire household of 4 people over to Mint Mobile. Saved us over $2500 a year. We had some initial hiccups, like my Asian cellphone only has access to certain cellular bands. 99% of the time though we have great service. Additionally the past few years we get those quirky cards from Mint with Ryan Reynolds on it, which always gives us a laugh.

I moved mom to Mint, $15 a month 4gb of data, a bunch of months free, grand total around $200 out until June of 2023! That $200 was 4 months on her old plan on Sprint. A year and a half for $200, 18 months. And yes, she has an unlocked phone.

My last provider was charging me $60 per month for unlimited everything, but only 2gb of high speed. Then they approached me with a deal to raise my plan for unlimited everything at $20 more. Lol. Nope. Switched to Mint a year ago and haven't looked back. Yeah you save a lot of money, but you also have the freedom to choose a plan that fits what you need. The last provider wasn't transparent with anything really. Got sick of it. Now I get 10gb high speed and unlimited everything. Only $25 a month. I pre pay every 6 months so it's $150. I sound like a commercial, but it's actually a good deal. When you pre pay in big chunks like that, you feel free from the monthly grind of paying the bill too. Love it.

Just switched from ATT. It was a bit confusing at first because even after I removed my physical SIM, and rebooted, I had to go into Cellular in General Settings on an iPhone 12 and manually disconnected the number connected to the physical SIM.
You have to select the phone number that is connected to the eSIM.
After that, it was all good.

The start up rate only appies to brand new customers. And is only valid for the first 3 months. Frankly, if you want the lower rates to continue you don't even sign up for the auto-renewel. When your time is drawing to an end you can get the 12 month plan. If you just do the renewel routine you will shocked at the leap in price. Mint is very honest about their pricing packages.

It will be $75 plus taxes and fees for 3 months after the trial. So I was paying $35 a month for unlimited talk and text, and 10gb data. I had a similar experience but not because of a locked phone. Switched today to Mint from Tmobile but they couldn't get the phones to activate. I was only without a phone for about 7 hours. No phone so I had to chat on the computer. After 5 chats, no one being able to figure out what was wrong other than the signal in my area was weak even tho their site said I had a strong signal and it was the same signal I never had a problem with from Tmobile, 5 disconnects from chat, I finally told them I wanted to cancel and get refunded. Went to Tmobile store to reactivate my account and was on the phone with Mint for about an hour trying to get my account number and Pin number and also them trying to talk me out of canceling. Also when you call for information about Mint they try to pressure you into joining. I should have known better then plus the foreign accents on every person I talked to there but I was trying to save a couple bucks and made a huge mistake.

I switched from Consumer Cellular to Mint. CC uses US Cellular towers and Mint uses T-Mobile. I never had more than two bars. I had JUST gotten my CC number to everyone, so I wanted to keep my number. It was simple.
Contact your current carrier and get a PIN from them. As you activate your Mint account, you will be asked if you want to keep your number. Enter your account number from your old carrier and the PIN. After a few minutes, your number will be switched.
CC was a by the month plan, so I had no trouble. If you have a plan with another carrier, that has to be negotiated with the carrier and you must get them to unlock your phone. They will not be happy but have to do it.
I needed a new phone anyway so I just bought an unlocked one from Amazon.

I've been using Mint Mobile for a year now, and here is my verdict after 12 months. Many of my incoming calls don't even come thru, and more often than not the callers get a message which states that the number that they are calling doesn't exist. Sometimes the callers don't even get sent to the voicemail where they could at least leave a message.
Also, some text messages can take up to an hour or more to show up on my phone. I thought that the problem was with my phone. So, I bought a new one just to end up with the same issues. My experience with Mint Mobile has been a disappointment.

I remember when I switched to Mint recently I had to specifically enter in like technical information like port numbers and things and proxy servers. Do you remember entering any information like that into your phone? If not maybe that's the problem? I sometimes only get like two bars at home in my bedroom but I've never missed a call of course my phone also supports Wi-Fi calls as well so maybe that helps it?

I think your math is a bit askew, about the 57%. Your $70 bill with AT&T was for 4gb service. You have the unlimited. It is very likely you are saving more than 57% if you had a comparable plan. I just paid $212.78 (taxes and fees included), for 2 lines for 6 months because of the 3 month free offer. So my Xfinity mobile bill of $114.63 per month just changed to $35.46 per month for the next 6 months. Quite happy with the savings.

Mint is great but do a little research. East and West Coasters and those living in big city areas should have zero probs with Mint. If you live in the sticks (Fly-Over Country), check reviews of T-mobile in your area...Mint uses T-mobile infrastructure.

Mint Mobile is a bargain....but..... Its not truly "unlimited".... you will be throttled or maybe even "cutoff" after 30-ish gigs data usage within 30 days (Phone calling services remain intact, however)...but that's a ton of "phone data" even if you use it as a periodic hotspot. Also, Mint Mobile utilizes T-mobile's towers and tech infrastructure....and they have very solid Nation-wide coverage. For the majority of users, Mint Mobile is a no brainer.

If you are someone who earns a living with their phone like Uber or in sales then maybe Mint Mobile isn't for you. For people trying to run a bazillion frame rate for 4k gaming then maybe you need to spend that $$$ a month. But if you just need solid data speed, good cell reception, and solid performance switch to Mint. Imagine just about $200 a year for 4GB and unlimited calls/texts. I was skeptical until I switched. Now I would not go back to AT&T even at the same price.

    • @I.am_Groot

@Night Rider I am still pretty new to Mint and my comment was based on whether a 'budget' mobile service would make sense when your income depended on it. I get overall faster data speed with Mint than I did with AT&T as well as full signal in areas that were not before. I would not switch back if AT&T was the same price.

But that's the thing every single customer on mint has a referral code. If you actually read everything when you sign up because everyone you refer that signs up for it gets $15 and you get the same towards your bill. It's not like mint is personally requesting that people make review videos and they will give them a cut back.
