A video for Mary and Matthew from Downton Abbey - by far my favourite couple in the show.
At this stage in the show (series 2, episode 3) I thought this particular song suited Mary and her relationship with Matthew very well. The song is The Winner Takes It All, by Abba.
I hope you enjoy the video and hopefully these two will sort things out soon so I can make happier videos for them. - Zábava
I must say, I absolutely love those parallel scenes, when, for example, Matthew puts Lavinia's picture down inside the trench shelter, and then, in a later scene, we see him putting down Mary's toy dog in the same place.
Downton Abbey is a work of absolute genius.

I love this video, because you can tell how much Mary loved Matthew. Even if she never tells him during the series, her actions and facial expresions speak for themselves

Watching this for probably the 20 th time. Not an ABBA fan but the music is just as good as it fits the story background. The love between Mary and Matthew was just sublime. The petit kiss scene at the train station was just the ultimate tear jerker. Downton Abbey. What a great story.
I think I've watched just about every Mary & Matthew video on here and yours is by far the best! I love it. It all works together beautifully. I especially like how every time the words "the winner takes it all" are sung, Lavinia is on the screen. As eolivet said earlier, Lavinia is winning the battle but not the war. It has to be Matthew and Mary together, nothing else makes sense for Downtown Abbey. Thanks for the wonderful video.

Tears. How one is drawn into their emotions is so strong . These two faces are never going to be improved upon. The power of excellent acting . The beauty of Mary, Mathew. Subtile reticance. Is more gripping than. Familiarity. Although the lust of handsome Pamuk Was breath taking . Downton Nothing replaces you. Not even Pemberley.
LOWE sonia 0:36 his eyes look so haunted. Subperb acting. They had potential in that. So many soldiers in WW1 were plagued with nightmares and ptsd. I felt that Matthew would fall into that category but nope, the war was forgotten, like It didn't even happen.

Great choice of music! We really see Mary's pain at being the third lover. I love that you show him putting Lavinia's photograph on his desk in the trenches, and then the little stuffed dog charm Mary gave him too. Love this editing! I am so subscribing :D

I confess that even after having watched _Downton Abbey_ a number of times, I never quite grasped the depth of the feeling between Matthew and Mary and the militancy of the complications that interfered. What a subtle fellow is Mr. Fellows! (Something about that English aristocracy, scries this American)

One must state, my most likeable character was Matthew and Isobel. The appeared rather relatable in the first series. Isobel was my favourite in the end however.

Matthew's death was so obviously a corporate decision. It did not flow naturally from the plot line. Today DA could really use a resurrected Matthew to keep the series going.

I wish Mathew Crawley, Dan Stevens is still the husband of Lady Mary in the movie. Henry is no good. Henry has no refinement. He is not a good actor. Dan Stevens has a way in loving Lady Mary. They got the best chemistry.
I think the writers were going for an opposite to Mathew but I agree with you that Henry is not a good actor and not suitable for Mary. No class there.

Let Lavinia and Lady Mary stand side by side, Lady Mary stands out / conspicuously and distinctively appears more beautiful and more admirable than Lavinia. With Lavinia' s personality is simple. I cannot understand why Matthew chose Lavinia as his fiancee. Maybe out of frustration, of being rejected by Lady Mary, but he loves Mary very much even pursue her. How Matthew could be so sensitive with Lady
Mary's reaction to his proposal. He could wait somehow. True love can wait. Remember, this is Victorian Age. Anyway, it is dictated in the script and with the director's order to react that way. I do not like the script of Fellowes. It is senseless. At this point, Matthew's insecurity is truly observable when he left Downton and chose Lavinia as his fiancee. He loves Mary, and yet chose Lavinia as his fiancee and future wife is absolutely crazy. No logic at all. Next time, Fellowes write the script well hah.
It's sad. If you don't make a decision about someone soon enough it can be too late. I wish that Matthew didn't marry so soon. I like the wife but I feel so bad for Mary. And we are told not to rush into anything that's life alternating.
Matthew didn't marry Lavinia -- he would have, but she died of the flu. And finally, he did mary his true love, Mary.

There is nothing class-less about ABBA and the lyrics and the footage go together very well.
