I love the way Martin Parr lets the person speak without interrupting them. Short questions and doesn't give his own answers.

Every time a new video from Parr and the fondation is released, I have the same inner dialogue inside my head:
    “Oh, great! A new video!”
“Oh! Chloe Dewe Mathews! I love her work. I should look at the Caspian book in my book shelf … but after I’ve watched the interview.”
“Great discussion … but where is the b-roll with examples of the images they are talking about?!”
(Sarcastic voice inside my head): “Sheesh … if there only was a medium where you could show images and talk about them at the same time … “
The worst thing about this dialogue is that I know Mr Parr and the people working there are really smart people. So there must be a reason behind this inexplicably weird way of producing interviews about photography … and it’s *me* who is not smart enough to understand this reason.

Hi Erik, thank you for your comment. It is great to get feedback from our audience. With the sofa sessions we focus very much on the photographer's discussion. While there are other formats, such as our photochat live events, where photographers often show their work, we wanted sofa sessions to present a different angle on the discussion of the work. We always provide links to the photographer's work and often the films tie in with work we are showing at the foundation. If the viewer wants to view their images while watching, then they can, but the strength of the conversation format for us it is that it draws attention to the working practices, experiences and opinions of the photographers. I hope this answers your question - it would be great to hear any further thoughts you have on this.

Great interview. An interesting insight into Chloe's working practice especially liked the distinctions between research methods.
