AS an American, i travelled to Zimbabwe in the 90's, it was an incredible place and incredible time. I used to go watch Mukanya and Tuku, all the great bands of the day. It is a shame what has happened to the wonderful country of Zimbabwe and its music. I love the Zimbabwean people and feel love everytime I go back kumusha. I hope one day Zimbabwe returns to its glory
So I was hitching in Zimbabwe back in the 90s and these guys in a battered old Peugeot stopped for me. On the drive they played a cassette and Karinga Wangu came on. I was so excited and told them I loved this track. Turned out my pick up was the Black Ites. Lovely people.
I once played keyboards for Farai Pio. Great and friendly guy. I remember we played this song for 3 hours nonstop at growth point night club in Chiredzi. People didn't stop dancing and singing Karinga Wangu. RIP MWACHEWE.
Man, Can you not upload the full song on to the internet for us? This is the longest piece of the song I've found after decades of searching for it. In 1992 I was dorm prefect of the form 4s of my hostel at a predominantly white high school and I used to play this song every morning before breakfast and every evening before supper till the whole dorm would sing along with me cos we all loved the song so much. It'd be so good to pop it into our group and reminisce.
Pio was my nephew. What a lot of people don't know is how in later years he hated music with a passion. He preferred his fish business and lamented how Jonathan Moyo had killed his career by instructing the radio stations to stop playing his music. It was sad. I remember being angry then as a young man. RIP muzukuru...your memory lives on
That is a very sad situation hey. That dude was talented he had the tactic to mix mbira and the guitars to come out with such a master piece. May his departed soul rest in eternal piece. Indeed the legacy lives on.
Right in SA thinking beyond the river Limpompo and the brighter future there it seemed back in the days. Crying my beloved Zimbabwe. You have been wasted and for u to be on your knees it will take decades
This is when his problems began. The hate began, i was a child and i remember the interview on Ezomgido after they beat him up and cut off his beautiful dreadlocks.. shouting "there's only one Thomas Mapfumo in Zimbabwe." Yep that's right.
This song reminds me of my friend Andrew in Mabvuku. The early 90s were the days then. Redbull..Hurudza...Tafara Tarven..Red Carpet....Hunter Tarven.....
Wen ths young man entered into music he had the backing of a well known guitarist Joshua Dube the former blacks unlimited member. The late Josh was behind Macheka s early success at the time he produced ths hit n others. When Joshua Dube left n went back to rejoin the blacks unlimited, Macheka was never the same anymore. Its really sad that he died struggling because he had talent. My hs soul rest in peace.

He was never Mukanya’s nemesis neither were his dreadlocks cut by Mukanya nor his people but his former Apostolic faith wife from Kwekwe. She drove a red car if you know the guy well. Ask Chris Muchabaiwa, Pio’s former bassist now playing with Mukanya whom Pio visited soon after his hair was cut. Facts

@@SimplySimplify1 Sorry no. I only heard of her in the group. I played for Pio after most original Black Ites had left him.

This is genuine Zimbabwean music - the mbira sound is outstanding. Gone too soon. Loved his songs. RIP Pio.
