So, East Coast, West Coast and Jive all have similar basic steps because they're all variants of the same dance. East Coast, Lindy and Jive all have the same basic steps essentially - but East Coast usually isn't in Triple step. The differences are in the advance steps and style of the dancing. You can't do Lindy until you've truly grasped and have a good understanding of East Coast because it's much faster and has more complicated moves outside of the basic. Same with Jive. And if you saw them danced side by side you'd be able to see how they're different.

The problem was that I learned Jive in England where it is very different and does not have that same basic step, so I was confused as to why this was called Jive
