When they do go to the wrong path, they do not try turning back and let themselves be drawn to the wrong path.... Mikey shows emotions and is pretty close to his friends unlike Sasuke..... Also, he tries not to get into the path of the evil but his dark impulse forces him to do so.....
There are already a lot of plot armours so changing things a bit actually would work out.....
After all, the main objective is to save Hina but the story is always revolving around Mikey..... It's never about Hina, Kisaki or even about Takemichi himself..... Also, most ppl search for a sense of humour in the main character and they have perfectly depicted it through Mikey's character so it could work well
