  • Come for a ride with me last August as I set out on my first adventure ride with my "New" 2015 KLR650. My first taste of ADV riding has me exploring some great semi-technical ATV trails, along with a few sketchy moments in the Goose grease.

I think the KLR 650 is a perfect 1st adventure bike. “This is the biggest bike i have ever rode off road, oh look a 4 wheeler trail, let’s see where it goes”. Lol. That is exactly why i subscribed to this channel. Lol

Love your videos! I really enjoy you showing what you can do with bikes that are considered "less capable". It goes to show that you don't always need to get the newest and greatest. Greetings from Sweden!

I recently bought a Gen 2 KLR with all the extras and you've shown precisely the sort of riding l want to do. Age and injuries prevent me from riding anything too savage these days, but l don't for a moment rate the KLR as a second tier bike. They're a wonderful machine, and you ride yours very well. May it serve you for many miles to come, on and off road. Cheers Pat! DJ

grew up with the 250 KLR and always wonted the 600. but at 16 the 250 was a better fit on so many levels. as an adult who loves to camp and get out in the outdoor, the call of the 650 is growing stronger.

Loving your videos man. Great to see someone who can actually ride taking these practical bikes out so we can all see how they perform in the real world.

I ran gen 1 for a few years as my only bike. Everything from slaving it with the vfr's and Goldwings from SW Ontario to the Moto GP in Indy to multi day muddy arse trips up around North Bay and Sudbury. I ran a set of trakmaster II as my offroad tires and with all that tractor torque you could really point and shoot that sucker through most gnarly muck. It's funny you mentioned stand up power slides. That was hands down my favorite part of the bike. Looks cool as hell. Feels cool as hell! Haha

Great to see you rocking the KLR! I just traded my T7 for a 250L. The Tenere was just too tall and heavy for me at 5'7"
I've been enjoying the Honda so far. OFTR stickers just arrived in the mail, May can't come soon enough!

I have the 27l version of those bags on my crf250l and they don't rattle at all. I absolutely love them and they are very waterproof. Might want to locktite all those little acorn nuts, I've read they have a tendency to work loose on longer trips. I myself am considering a used KLR for some longer adventures, cheers!

To put the KLR into some perspective, I'm seriously considering selling my Suzuki V-Strom 1050 XT Adventure for a new KLR.
Watching your video is inching me closer to doing so.

When you went offroad into the muddy areas I was really wondering if those "mostly" street tires were the right choice, but you did pretty well on them. Love the KLR! Its the most fun bike I've ever had. I like it more than my YZ250. Tractor on through!

Lose the hard luggage and switch to soft luggage. Hard luggage is dangerous AF off road. That bike will go anywhere off road that you have the skill to take it. Jeff Emig uses a KLR on the Emig ride around the Alpine Loop and I personally have ridden a KLR across California's Rubicon Trail. It just takes practice and that bike will take you anywhere you want it to

Me and my brother just bough 2 brand new 23 klr650's as far as dropping the bikes, the bars, and controls have held up fine, but both of our plastic knuckle guards are cracked, but they haven't fallen off yet.

  • @raizt1596

Tenere 700 has more power and a stiffer suspension. It's problems are that it's tall and topheavy.
The KLR has better power delivery that makes it easier to control overall. Both are awesome bikes. Tough choice.

Nice bike, I really wanted a gen 2, so many good deals and just a great bike. However, I found a deal on a 22 with 70 miles, that I couldn't pass up on. Still, may pick up a gen 2 anyway.

Comment for more algorithm help, but this time I have a legit question too. I've been contemplating a used klr like you got, or a crf 300l ralleye. Would the ralleye be too underpowered for weekend adventures with a good bit of mileage? Hoping to find trails like you rode in this vid.
Been riding motorcycles for 20 years but always on road. Have a Superduke 1290r for the road. Never hit offroading though so thinking starting small/light. Maybe eventually end up on a KTM 890 adventure r.

      @patoneill555  Před rokem +1

Hey Jesse, thanks for the comments!! Honestly I would lean more towards the 300L Rally. Although you are going to sacrifice the extra oomph out on the HWY, it will be so much better off road when exploring unknown territory. The KLR is awesome as a touring bike, but when things get more technical it really helps to be a more savvy off road rider.
