    I got sent here by @diydanie . I've never tried to paint laminate before I usually use the shellac bin because I'm painting wood and I have tannin bleed through. Usually sanding between coats has to do more with getting a smooth even finish then with bonding itself. Sanding between primer and paint would only make a difference if the primer went on kind of lumpy or rough. I would love to know by what you meant by like latex paint and cabinet paint? any of these chalk paints or mineral paints? What brand? What sprayer did you wreck? I'm going to have to check out that extreme Bond stuff cuz I've been doing a fair amount of furniture work. I don't foresee myself doing a lot of laminate but I do currently have an Ikea desk but I kind of beat up and I'm switching up my desk and give it to my kids so it's going to be in the living room and I either need to paint the top or contact paper it. Do you know if that primer happens to block tannins? Thanks for the video

    I saw how you added the faux mdf piece to extend the length but how did you extend the top? I was going to up cycle my bedroom drawers but now think I might try fake fitting them too!

    Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included czcams.com/users/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.

    Great video, and very helpful. I have to say though, if I had the facilities and equipment you have I would just build my own rather than pay Ikea for something I'm just going to change beyond recognition.

      Fair enough, in this scenario it was cheaper (once you add all materials, soft close slides, etc) to repurpose the IKEA piece. Thanks for watching!

    What about chalk paint?

    • @LindiandRuss
      @LindiandRuss  Před 5 měsíci

      I personally don’t like chalk paint in general, so I would advise against using it. I don’t think it’s nearly as durable as other paint types.

    So you sand AFTER you prime ??? Not clear.

      a light sand after priming can help the bond and level out and high points :)

    Would've been better to blind test this instead of labeling and then scratching. That could introduce biases

      True! I’ll do that if I ever re-do it! Although I just want my painted cabinet to look the best and last longest, so I really was looking for the best solution. I’m definitely not a scientist, lol.

      Black doors didn't have the look (pattern/lines) we wanted and wouldn't have fit (we had to make new wider drawers anyways). Thanks for watching!

      No issues after a couple years of use in a house of 3 small kids and pets. We are really happy with how it is performing. I think adding a additional top coat really depends on the quality of the paint you use :)
