You really have 343 too much credit. They basically discarded everything from the lore aside from John and Cortana. They even dropped the new plotlines from Halo 4, hell nothing from the trailers even made it in.

I find it amazing that this game is SOO much more in depth than it appears to be from a first play through. Without this channel and this series I never would have known anything that isn't very obviously explained in the games. There's so much more to Halo than just what's shown in the games and I love that.
Out there theory, perhaps looking back on Chiefs family tree, maybe he had some Forerunner in him before. If you think about it, a lot of the Forerunner tech reacts to him differently. Not only that, but the fact that the librarian talks as if he is a son, somewhat intrigues me.

Well the librarian did think of the humans as her children, she saved and cared for them hoping one day they would surpass the forerunners. That explains her reaction to chief.

Novex Gaming The reason that Forerunner tech reacts to Chief is becuase of the geas, but it doesn't mean that there is forerunner DNA in Cheif. It just means that the geas gives him access to forerunner tech, and the geas isn't present in all humans.

This was one of the best videos you've made in a long time, i loved the little recap, then digging straight into it, giving some good ass speculation, and leaving it off with a question for the community. More of your (big) videos should be organized like this. First reminding us of what we learned last time, then just getting right smack into it. Yeah, I guess that could happen. The Iso-Didact's AI also did malfunction, which could trigger some reawakening of the geas.

Honestly. I think Bungie knew by Halo 3 that they made enough money and wanted to work on other things. Handing it over to a company with less attachment and commitment, it was only expected that they didn't know lore and we're just trying to make money off of marketing schemes. Spartan Locke? Wh-why? Like everything got so fucking confusing and hard to follow based on novel lore. I'm giving them one last chance. And then I'm leaving Xbox and going full pc. Halo Infinite better deliver. Halo Infinite better have lore embeded.
As a child playing halo I had no idea how vast/deep the storyline was this makes my love and respect for halo burn even more!! Great explanation and puzzle piecing clarity!!!
Maybe in halo 5 chief starts behaving strangly because of cortana and the iso didacts memory and he does something so bad that he is considered a traitor by oni/unsc.
I'm sure ONI's aware that something's up with Chief, his suit alone would've pinged off like crazy on his sudden change in biometrics, and even now in Halo 4's opening, they've been pressing Halsey for anything that would put him as a threat. And if they really thought about it, it would've seemed highly convenient that in almost everything Forerunner related, he's always in the right place to save the day. It's almost as if the piece of Halsey's brain to make Cortana, had its Librarian seed triggered, meaning that it's possible, for who knows how long, Cortana's been orchestrating everything according to her plans, and if that's true, she's alive.

It's hard to believe that what a few guys in a basement started 14 years ago has evolved into this. I can't wait to see how much story will come forth in the future.
2 questions.
1 - What happened to the precursor dust that corrupted it ad turned it into the flood?
2 - Why was 343 GS talking like he knew Master Chief in Halo 1 when MC wasn't imprinted yet?

The flood is definitely not defeated. And since Master Chief was endowed with, 'gifts,' maybe he will find a way to pry control of the guardians from cortana.
What if Masterchief's luck has something to do with his forerunner gea? What if it were THAT gea, that helped him in all his battles so far? What if his extreme luck was the gea that had been imprinted on him? If it were Iso-Didact's gea, then does that mean that Iso-Didact had been a very lucky forerunner for SOME reason?
I've said this stuff for months, I'm so glad someone with a far bigger voice in the community has picked up on it.. I would love to see, for a short time, Cortana replaced in practical in game use with the Iso Didact. How awesome would it be to hear him say " I have been with you since the beginning, I have guided you in times of uncertainty.". Like he was John's guardian angel.
Chris, you have a lot of subs, and many people come here for Halo lore, simpky because they dont have the means to find said lore for themselves.
that said, i do not like the fact that your pushing the Gias THEORY as FACT.
That ENTIRE theory is based off of what 343 guilty spark said in halo CE.
Keeping in mind that at that time, Bungie had it planned that Forerunners were actually ANCIENT HUMANS.
So with that in mind, you cannot push thay theory as truth, until 343i comes out and says it canoninally true.

Rahul Gupta No, Chief and Iso-Didact are two completely different species. Chief has no forerunner in him. As for Chief having forerunner geas. So what. Every geas was made by forerunners therefore every geas is a forerunner geas. The geas only allows humans who have them to access forerunner tech. As for it being Iso-didact being in the geas iscompletely untrue due to the fact that consciousness that appears in geas are composed essence. Meaning that the consciousness are from those who were composed or dead. But the Iso-didact is still very much alive after the firing of the halos and goes on the Great Journey with a handful of other forerunners.

I agree, I am a huge halo fan from day 1. Every time I see a halo video I get goose bumps (chicken skin) I already reserve my legendary copy of the game, I honestly can't wait. Thank god for halo follower, keep up the amazing job.

Dude. In Greg Bear's "Cryptum", Bornstellar was imprinted with the Didacts thoughts and memories, but that was only because the Didact was the only forerunner around. An imprint can only be done with a live host forerunner. and geas are only given to an organism when they are being created. So it is not a fact that master chief has Bornstellar's imprint. If anything he has the Ur Didact's because of that voice that Cortana couldn't pick up when they were running through the towers in Halo 4. The voice was that of the Ur Didacts as well. Bornstellar had anger issues with the Primordial but never with humans or "hamanush" as Chakas put it.

Chief got Iso-Didacts Geas. And iso is the one who buried Mendicant Bias on the Ark. So Chief uses this to locate MB as we saw in the E3 2013 trailer. This is brilliant. Halo 5 and 6 is going to be so full of story, I'm so hyped up.

Halo 5 didn't do much but create more questions. In my opinion, the Halo story has the potential to be the greatest story ever told and universe ever created

As I commented before, I think the geas / imprinted dna of bornstellar / iso-didact has already been activated, that's why chief probably is now considered a 'traitor'. If what you say is true chris, about the geas being able to take control over the body of its host, then this would be such a scary idea. Chief doing wrong things he doesn't want to do. This is why benjamin giraud asks the questions: 'Who is the master chief? Where does he come from? And is he keeping us safe?'

The Halo series as a whole has maintained a message of human preservation. Many things may or may not be aligned with Canon, and many things I believe are inducted due to fan-based mythos. But regardless, the story is clear- a clear cut hero, who battles all odds to protect human life, all the while learning the great dignity, and burden that comes with being human.
It's a story that should be left at that.

I think its possible that we have already seen what the Chief's Geas can do. Think back to the station over Installation 03, the Didact Composed everyone on-board... except the Chief. I think when the Library activated his Geas, when it altered his DNA so that Cortana did not recognize it, it could have turned him into a partial forerunner. The Composer only composes humans, thats why the Didact survived (among other possible reasons), and thats probably why the Chief survived being composed. This new Forerunner DNA could open new doors for the Chief, maybe thats why the "war-sphinx" responded to his presence in the trailer. Now, theres nothing to say that it would've came out of the ground anyways, but thats my theory: we've seen what the Geas can do already, and theirs more to come...

I am now officially stoked for HALO 5! I read the forerunner saga (twice) and loved it, but I did not know that MC was imprinted with Bornstellar. This is going to get interesting! The Reclaimer saga (HALO 4 onward) is definitely my favorite yet. :)

We learn from the Book Harvest, it is the Age of the Reclaimer. All Humans are cast as Reclaimers, as they are meant to inherit the mantel. This is the librarian who made this so, as a result 343 naturally assumes that Master Chief understand what Halo is. Although it is by consequence (and Cortana) that you are on the halo ring

I could imagine that Bornstellar/Iso-Didacts consciousness will manifest as a second personality in John. This could lead to voice overs very much like Cortana talked to the Chief in the previous titles. This way we could leran of lot more about the forerunners as we would have a first-hand witness as part of our main character.

Find it rather interesting that what you refer to as the geas, the librarian called a gene song. A theory of hereditary memories/traits stored. She said she had planned everything from cortana to the eventuality of both Halsey and John. That she had to activate them which leads John to hear them throughout halo 4. John can no longer be composed and he will start to hear other forerunners in halo 5. This giving him certain passages in halo 5 that lock's team can't directly follow. Cortana most likely isn't dead but is fragmented data that was sent during new phoenix incident.
Yes the flood is still alive on the remaining rings so with the ark destroyed, stopping a new gravemind would be a little hard. This also means other monitors are still out there as well. Some how Del Rio became a senator... Halsey an amputee, and Buck never got his answer... Halo wars 2 just so they can kill off capt carter and the other Spartans IIs who by the way still have to deal with the flood... If 343 guilty spark survived installation 00's destruction I wonder if medicant bias some how survived as well? Oh and did we forget the 6 new composers that were seen out of halo escalation comic series, 9th comic?
All this said I would hope the halo universe answers these questions in time. Ill leave that for you to think about. Interesting video and overall I enjoyed it.

I think chief is considered a traitor cos he is protecting Halsey(who the UNSC and ONI have a hit squad after), who he believes can bring back cortana.

Theory: after the iso didact dropped off riser on earth, he and the other forerunners went somewhere, we don't know where, though I surmise they could have been put in the slipspace cryogenic that Team Katana was put in in "Ghosts of Onyx". Because Master Chief is imprinted with Iso-didact's geas, it could very well be that the geas is pulling Master Chief to the Iso-didact, to reawaken him from the slipspace cryo or whatever he is in.

I think I nice little plot twist would that us the players are his geas (don't know if I'm spelling that correctly) but we where some how damaged and we are slowly going the knowledge that was lost from said damage
The Didact actually used his teleportation to avoid death. He later meets John and Spartan Black Team; not going to spoil anything. However, this is what I was told by a Spartan.
overshielding game:
everytime a word with the letter a is said: add one overshield
everytime a word is said at all add 2 overshields
everytime forunners is said add 18 overshields
Been unable to save Cortana will make the Geas Awake in Waves as the emotional break down is the worst thing Master Chief has face and he tries to ignore it like he was train for but it will only delay its progress. John will be able to free from it because he is "used" to someone being in his mind (Cortana).
I Got 2 Theories from that point:
1. The Iso-Didact geas will take the roll of Cortana in the previous games, he will be the one to help the Chief get through situations that need a knowledge of technology or quick reaction. That will explain why he went to meet that Forerunner AI
2. The other possibility is that the Iso-Didact and the Chief will be changing control of John's body, similar to the first theory that will depend on the situation, weather is more convenient for one of them to get over a combat or a technology problem.

Lord of admiral was talking to chakas's mind so the isoDidact could talk to chief too! And become his new "Cortana" voice.
This makes sense because it was Iso didact who imprison medicant bias in the ark and (talking to chief) he could show him where and how to release medicant bias (like the teaser)...
I think that the ISO Didacts memory kicks in causing the chief to lose control and appear to ONI to go rouge as the chief/ISO Didact leaves to do something, I dunno what in the most recent trailer the chief is talking to locke as if he knows more about the universe than anyone else could do.
Also about that trailer, I think you can choose who to play as (either Locke or Chief) and that will determine the story of the game
*What if Bornstellar was awoken inside chief, leading him to go rogue. Bornstellar might've convinced chief that Cortana can be saved by doing what following his instructions. The big bird might be one of the instruments required. Maybe, just maybe, Bornstellar wants to animate the forerunners in suspended animation for more knowledge.*

I am not sure that the Librarian was saying that she specifically put a geas on John, but it may have been meant that she put a geas onto all of humanity, which has culminated in John.
Also, the geas imprinted humans in the books are always of other humans (IE Chakas has The Lord of Admirals). I am not sure if John would be imprinted with a Forerunner geas.
but it is really interesting theories, and I think it has some validity, and they definitely could decide to go that way.
I'm interested in The Warden! on Genesis the monitor while battling The Warden there's a few references stating that The Warden is a Conciousness but then tells Locke to not worry about that and that even if you do defeat him his body is only defeated and Cortana references similar things. I wonder :O
I have no clue if this has already been said and I'm too lazy to look but what if the reason Cortana acts the way she does is because she knows his secret? Not the whole wanting to erase everything part but the keeping John safe part.
This explains why Cortana is so adamant about the journey to come. She must of transcended from her contact with the flood/precursor-dust to somewhat understand neural physics - reason why she was able to touch the Master Chief in Halo 4.
This probably happened because her guidas (is it guidas, gidas, or geidas?) which would be of human origin (she's made from a clone of Dr. Halsey) was activated during her period of contact with the flood.
Although her guidas might just be the Precursor guidas (again, how do you spell that?) placed into the Forerunner which somehow was transferred to humans (remember, humans were recreated by the Librarian) that is the one that was/or is being activated.
Perhaps, a way for the Precursors to reinstate their will again on the galaxy?

Since the loss and his morning of her death the iso didact simple took control of sheif to do his own mission which is proble part of the campaign in halo 5. I CANT WAIT!!!
I think Chiefs gea has been triggered multiple times, every time he goes into combat. This would explain his incredible abilities, since chief has ISO didacts gea and ISO was imprinted by ur didacts that means chief has the combat experience of both didacts in addition to his own equaling over 4 million years of experience
Love the video mate, one thing the forerunner's devolved human as they assumed that humanity had a immunity to the flood having discovered healthy population centers at the center of flood burns your statement at 6:50 minutes in was wrong, forerunner's tortured humans to try and find out how they survived the infection,the flood tricked the forerunner's into sparing humanity as they where fighting the flood and forerunner's at the same time, as the grave mind said their is no cure, the flood they chose not to infect human at the height of the war with them, the floods target was the forerunner empire not the human one.Questions over sgt. Johnson's immunity after halo one is just 343 keeping a charter to be killed off later in halo 3 a good decision in my mind, i know you knew this why you dint say it i don't know. The Geas thing has had me puzzled for a long time. It explains why Cortana makes the statement in the open scene of Halo 3 in reference to Master Chief,
"They let me pick... You has something they didn't... Luck..."
Perhaps the things Cortana spotted as luck was actually Chief's Geas. As the Geas might activate part of itself to recognize situations and help Chief make superhuman Decisions in order that the end goal of the Geas be Accomplished!

okay, in one of the books, chakas was in forerunner armor and fell on to the ring's surface, just like say master chief did off the forerunner ship in halo 3 right at the beginning. minus the piece of metal to hold onto. Here's the thing though, Chakas survived, and only that, but was outside and looking around the moment he awoke, however, his armor was destroyed and unsalvagable. my guess is that the Ur Diadact is still kicking, and chances are, we will see him again one day.
It would also explain the graveminds line, "I am a monument to all your sins."

my only hole in this theory us the fact that the quotes that reference chief in previous games as having a geas can't be correct in stating chief has a geas because he didn't get it imprinted on him until Halo 4 so the stuff from halo 1-3 isn't meant to be taken in that context.
Ok I got this(maybe)..and that precursors were the god(who created everyone) who were killed by their creation..the forerunners.. although precursors wanted that all beings being united and the premordial said we are flood..which means they were flood but they do not share same knowledge..
During Halo 4 we had to put up with Cortana going rampant.
So I think that in Halo 5 we'll have to deal with Chief going 'rampant' as he fight his gias activating.
I have a theory of possibly how thing may go down, : after "killing" the daidac(sp?) I believe iso was awakened. Now new to the humans being everywhere he takes over the master Chiefs body to escape or to leave somewhere most like stealing something special in the unsc's labs. (For runners ship?) after arriving on installation 00 he attempts to waken the MB due to the fact he needs his help for a special mission, Locke is sent after the master chief to "pay for his crimes" but I have a sneaking suspicions possible Locke has a gias(sp?) which will be awaken (possibly librarian?) and together they end the flood, and or have a plan to balance the Galaxy perhaps entering the precursors or extra living forrunnners. Again only a theory

Having played halo 5, this video makes me realise what could have been
i think the darkest thing about the forunners is that some inevitably live for thousands of years, only remembering their sins, a constant reminder that humans are mortal and our lives will come to a slow end, with no memories.

I only have four problems with his theory about mastercheif having the geas of the iso-didact, that 343 guiltyspark had been going rampid and that he could have mistaken him for bornestellar, evidence of this is found in the halo aneversery terminals. Also when would the librarian have time to create a geas of the iso-didact in the first place, she was busy trying to make the council aprove of the halo arreys. Another problem with the theory is that how will 343i implement this plot into halo 5 or future halos? Also how could the masterchief have had the geas in the first place? he didn't meet the librarian until halo 4 and the dialog with 343 happened way before that.
Two Betrayals makes so much sense now.
