  • Hello All,
This turned out to be a phenomenal build and I could not be happier with the results. The amount of R&D in this one item is literally insane.
This video has taken a serious amount of time to create and is extremely long and boring unless you are building this unit. I appreciate there is too much in-depth footage, but this is a build and programming video hopefully designed to reduce the number of questions on how to carry out each part of the build. It's sort of a one-stop video where you pick the parts you need to watch.
A massive Thank You to Sebi Woelke for the Intro and Logo!

I love what you are doing. Someday I hope to build my own home cockpit when I have space for it. I hope you will continue your CZcams channel when you are finished building your cockpit. Most youtubers end their channels or post very limited once their sim pit is finished, but their users will never understand the beauty that you get when you are able to stop using a computer keyboard and mouse and can actually focus on sim piloting. Some flights on Vatsim or pilotedge with your cockpit would be nice. Cheers!

Hi Artur, if this was solely for me, I would get out the CNC machine and fir the laser head and engrave the parts. But this was more to show how people can create this at home. With a push of a button (lol despite the hours of wiring). Thank you for sharing your knowledge, it's always appreciated. Kind regards Karl

Incredible work. I've purchased the 3d print files and I'm getting to the point where I need to start buying components. Do you have a parts list for the screen, buttons, and such?

Great video! I'm starting out with an A320 MCDU for the Fenix, I'll need to undock the CDU screen and bring it onto the LCD for my MCDU however I'm on the fence about what board I use...

Hi, I cannot help with this as i have never flown the A320 or seen what software it uses. Perhaps the mobiflight Discord might be able to help?

As I dont like the pure black color filament in my solutions i print out the face plates in any PLA color i have, then spraypaint the faceplates in the right black/greay color. In my fusion 360 i have ingraved what ever wordings/letters i want like in 0.5mm depth, then i have printed out the word/letter in 0.5 height in white with a 0.3 line mm bar on top just to hold the letters together. I put the letters inside and cut/sand off the line bar, ofcourse the Word is superglued on the engraving. Looks fine.

      That's a great alternative.

@@helimech8152 just a tip. I tried to print out the letters individually without the bar, and this was not a nice result, as it is imposible to place the letters exactly the same angle.
If you need back light on the buttons, then you use clear pla on ie the buttons. You print out the word/letters twice, place the first word/letters in the button, spray paint the buttons, take out the sprayed Word/letters and replace it with the non sprayed painted word/letters, the second print.
The cheapest solution i could figure out.
Hope it made sence... Im not in a use for a FMC (i have my GARMIN G5000 only touch screen), but I enjoy your channel, really good inspiration. I still building My Cessna Citation Longitude, less soldering 😉

Point was, to make it "licens free" and not use HDMI ports and only based on cable network, besides some few pins on the Mega. It's based on 4 encoders each.
I made a case with gears to encounter for double encoders 😋

I would like to clarify a couple of things.
The device being created here is a Multi-purpose Control and Display Unit (MCDU). In some ways it is like an asynchronous serial terminal, V T100, except there is a single TX port and 7 (or more) RX ports.
ARINC Characteristic 739A-1 details the MCDU. ARINC Specifcation 429, Digital Information Transfer System (DITS), details the signaling used on the TX and RX ports.
Both Flight Management Computers (FMC) are connected to the same TX port. Each FMC is connected to separate RX ports.
I expect that the interface between your MCDU/Arduino and your FMC will be localised and not 429.
    I like your work. :)

You did such an amazing job! And the result speaks for itself, because that DIY console you made is just 100.000% awesome, super incredible to look at and from where I'm looking at it, it seems hardly distinguishable from a genuine unit!
One question, would it perhaps be possible to know the specific part number or name for those LED switches you used? Those look superbly handy for some of the DIY projects I'm doing over here too!
Okay, I may have lied because I have another question! Was there a specific reason for why you opted to use a dedicated wire for each button instead of just using a matrix configuration to wire your buttons (into rows and columns)?
Granted, you would have needed to add a single diode to each button, but it would have allowed you to wire all your 69 buttons (if I remember correctly?) to your Arduino using less than 20 pins, all for the small cost of slightly increasing the complexity of your button polling code. But especially if you are using interrupts and software debouncing the increase in code complexity wouldn't have been so bad i reckon. Not to mention the fact that it would have greatly reduced the complexity of your wireing loom *and* it would have saved you a great deal of time in the process!

Love watching these videos. One day I’ll have the time and spare cash to build a decent helicopter flight deck. Have to buy a printer first. :)
I have to say that I’d much rather have a PCB, given how easy they are to design and make these days.

Agreed, and in talks with companies, but as shipping here is taking several months. this is just not viable until our return back to the UK.
