  • I'm back! I had my most challenging day yet as a new rider. I got to ride with another rider. It was my longest duration and distance. I hit higher speeds. I worked on shifting faster to higher gears. It was a great day!

    Great to have a mentor. No substitute for experience, keep on piling up the miles. Scan the road ahead constantly, be aware of what’s coming up behind, if you see a potential hazard in front ease ever so slightly off the gas, just enough to give you an edge- avoid accelerating into a danger zone.

      Thanks for the smart advice! I'm constantly learning each time I ride. Thanks for watching :)

    As a new rider there is a lot to learn. Take your time. Going slower gives you more time to decide. Getting out of an urban environment can reduce the many things that you need to deal with. Rides with breaks to digest what you experienced and learned are useful.
    Ride your ride. 🤔
    Hope you have many many years of riding ahead to enjoy. 🏍

    Great bikes. Just remember never grab at the brakes, squeeze in an emergency stop. ❤️🇦🇺

  • @Flynn_43

    I like seeing that you were covering the front break while going through some of those busier city streets. Really cuts down on reaction time if you need to avoid a hazard. I was able to relax and feel a lot more confident on the bike when I focused training on emergency braking. Doing so helped me realize how quickly I can actually stop and the amount of brake pressure I needed. Have fun and ride safe

      I’ve been practicing a lot of emergency breaking! I want to be prepared and know my bike. Thanks for watching :)

    That is so nice you have that support system in place. I highly recommend watching Dan Dan the Fireman and Motojitsu as well. They are great resources for safety. Both also have riding safety courses you can practice. Dan mainly makes videos on accidents and explains what not to do. It's scary but very helpful

      Thanks! I follow Motojitsu but I will look up Dan Dan.

    Riding with another rider when new, you should be in front. It’s to easy to fixate on that rider in front. Currently teaching my daughter and this allows me to see what she’s doing and talk via the Cardo units. ( highly recommended). We don’t hand out belts for riding but compete in the lot. She’s determined and will probably kick my butt soon. I won’t use names for channels, just watch out for the ones telling you your gonna suck for life unless it’s their way.

    • @moto_des
      @moto_des  Před rokem

      That's awesome, I hope your daughter's riding is going well. I tried not to fixate on the other rider too much, but I also didn't have a mount for my phone/GPS yet, so I followed :)

    You are doing well. Nice to ride with an experienced rider. I took a road lesson with an instructor round town prior to doing road test. (Required here). It really helped.
    I find I rarely go above 3rd round town. Get used to tapping down when you stop at lights stop signs ect. You will be more confident going up through the gears when you get used to down shift.
    It’s ok if you get it the gear wrong. I found the street twin can pull away on hills in 3rd😀

    La Street Twin es una gran moto, perfecta como primera moto grande, y estupenda para la ciudad, y un poco de carretera. Espero que la disfrutes como hice yo con la mía 👍🏻

    A piece of advice! don’t go above the confort zone! know your limitations. However, keep in mind that a lot of limitations are mental, so my suggestion is always go out ride as much as possible! that’s the only way you will learn and get to know the Street Twin better, the more you ride the more experience you get! I started on a 125 Honda, I drove a lot before making the jump to a 900cc Triumph.

      I agree! Each time gets better and better and it's fun to look back on my riding from a few months ago. This ST is so smooth and easy to handle, it's been a great first bike. Thanks for watching :)

    Here In Germany you actually need to take an exame especially for Motorbikes and a lot of lessons , so It's really admirable that you can do this driving kinda on your own . be proud

    • @moto_des

      Wow. In the US we take a two day course and exam. I wanted to get more lessons in before hoping on the main roads. Glad I did!

  • @jaybloodypurchase8868
    @jaybloodypurchase8868 Před rokem +1

    So strange that in the US you can just get on a bike and ride. Here in the UK you have to pass a theory and a road test before you can ride a bike over 125cc.
    Good luck to you, take it steady and ride your own ride.

    New rider here! How did your back and bottom feel after riding for that long? Did you cramp up at all? I find that I start to feel a little sore after about an hour. May think of replacing my saddle but wasn’t sure if it was just me.

    • @moto_des
      @moto_des  Před rokem +1

      I didn’t ride that long here, I did a 2.5 hour trip last weekend and I felt like I needed to stop about every 40 mins. I definitely cramped up. 😂

    Am I seeing things around the 2:55 mark or did Adam leave his right indicator (turn signal) on while passing openings on the right while going straight on? If Adam was being followed by the police he would have been pulled in the UK if they had nothing better to do.😀👍

      haha, I forget to turn my signal off quite often. 😅I believe his tail lights are just blinking back and forth in this clip. Thanks for watching!

    May I ask how tall are you? I am 4.11 1/2 with 27 inches inseam. I am on tiptoe when I sit on a Triumph Street Twin.
    Although I can handle medium weight bikes (190 kg), I still have low confidence to hit the highways.

    • @moto_des
      @moto_des  Před rokem

      I’m 5’2 and 55 kg in weight.
      My riding boots give me a tad more to work with. Starting out it did feel “too heavy” but I practiced switching my feet on and off while leaning the bike for a while and riding more in general has helped my confidence.
      I haven’t dropped it yet. 😅
      I sat on my friends speed twin and it felt way heavier to me and I was more on my toes.

    Do you guys in the US not have comprehensive riding exams ? The UK is super tough on this.

    • @moto_des
      @moto_des  Před měsícem

      You're not the first to say this. We do not have a written exam. We have a two-day in-person course where you demonstrate certain skills on the bike. I definitely felt like I needed more. I'm thankful I had my boyfriend and friends to help me after taking the course.
