Just a guess, but it's probably something they originally included for consoles (since it did release on 360 and ps3 which is wild) to save CPU headroom when indoors

@HungryLoki I bet the trick is that if you go inside when planes are still within rendering distance, that's when you hear them crash, otherwise they disappear out of range

@@RestlessFisher nah incorrect the way I see it stops being before the Story mode after heists it was the last dlc to make mentions to certain characters who die in story mode to still be alive and i see it like this your character remains low after that for a while to avoid the heat from the heists

Crazy how random crashing planes also used to happen in GTA San Andreas
That was mainly due to the fact they added those very late into its development and they spawn really close to the player, and don’t really have an altitude system so they crash into almost everything.
They used to freak me out as a child and we also heard some theories like the "Moth man"
Yeah I remember being hit by one going up Mount Chiiliad. I think I was on a mission but it might have just been free roam
@@KingMaseyi one time was playing on my grandfathers ps2 and all of a sudden an explosion at a gas station happened and the cops thought i caused it but i was driving normally and not speedy cause i thought gta was real until i played it again but on the ps4 version and didnt care about driving laws because gta games dont have driving laws until gta 6 changes that

I recently played the game and while in Michael's house i usually heard the explosive noises as if someone's firing shots from a tank. This one time i actually saw a gigantic wrecked airplane literally a few blocks aways from Michael's house and was like WTF DUDE !!!
I remember hearing an explosion outside Michael’s house in gta v and went outside to find a destroyed plane, I was so confused I thought the npc was suicidal

Meanwhile distant jumbo jets don't have a pilot, fly faster than any plane in the game, and the plane has infinite health.

I actually went outside Michael's house not even a week ago and found a destroyed plane sitting outside, I didn't even hear it explode cause i was idle while going to the bathroom.
I hear this all time,and think game file's broken...

Finally an answer. I've been hearing these explosions for years and just assumed it was cops and thugs fighting.

If I'm not mistaken it was common for a time on the Mr. Richards mission to occasionally see a plane fall out the sky when loading in the cut scene at the beginning of the mission

This bug wasn't always there, it was absent on the 360 and PS3 version of the game. The bug occurred when GTA 5 came out for Xbox One and PS4 in 2014 and they still to this day haven't fixed it.
I kinda like it. Like someone else is fucking it up outside.
I don't think these planes even spawned in the sky on PS3/360 because of spawn distance limitations.
