    I bought a property over 20 years ago, it's rental income returning annually roughly 70% of what I paid for it. Over the 20 years, it's given back my original investment many times over and it's gone up more than 10 times. Gold hasn't seen the same growth over the same period. Tesla shares I bought a few years ago, despite all recent drops are still showing more than 10X growth in a fraction of 20 years and have the potential to do another 10X over the next few years = over 100X in less than 10 years.
    If you'd invested in NVDA, AMZN, MSFT or APPLE etc etc over the same period, your return would have far exceeded that of gold plus you wouldn't have the security risk of it getting stolen (or the cost of keeping it in protected custody)

      With huge risk in comparison to gold. It’s apples and oranges. Different asset classes. I hold Tesla which has done well, recent performance has been a bit rubbish but long term prospects still looks good

    Personally I have invested in bullion (gold and silver) since about 2007/2008 as part of a diverse portfolio.
    Bought and sold as I needed and have done well out of it.
    I have around £10k in bullion and it is an emergency stash in the family safety deposy box. (It also satisfies the pirate in me).

    Thanks Peter interesting perspectives.
    I have done a deep dive into money and currency.
    Given that the majority of civilians know tales of gold and the likes but A do not own it as an investment and B don't even know its value, does it make it less important today?
    The price of gold can and is manipulated as openly stated by JPM and co.
    The age of computers is very new in the 5000 year grand scheme of things. As we continue the digital age i personally do see gold being less important.
    I would love for you to do a comparitive against Bitcoin and 21st century perspective.
    I have gold as i listened to gold investors and still do. However even for me a hard stop of 21 million is more scarce and therefore a better hedge than gold whos amount cannot be 100% verified.
    Keep up the great work.

    In 1902 an ounce of gold would buy a nice suit and so would a few pounds, in 2024 an ounce of gold will still buy a nice suit but a few pounds wouldn’t buy a nice pair of socks. Is the way I was taught to view gold.

    • @directbullion
      @directbullion Před 4 měsíci

      We are big fans of digital gold and think there is a genuine use case for it. Aurus Gold is something we have been using, and it's very good. Gold ETFs are a financial product and carry a counterparty risk; most ETFs are over-leveraged and become very high-risk.

    Hi Peter, I hope you are well? I note your were on Channel 5 News today, this shows the value and trust, the credibility you have. You are hugely knowledgeable and trustworthy. Re "physical gold " and zero level of risk with gold coins, bars. Blackrock run a "physical gold" ETF, ishares physical gold. I am presuming this as a ETF is not a zero risk and "physical " is misleading but as it invests in physical gold it is a lower risk? Hope I haven't missed a window for you to view this? Thank you for any reply. Kindest regards Gerry Low

      An ETF is a traded fund so it will have a volatility risk as it trades. It’s not the same as buying and holding physical gold like coins that you keep. Yes the price of the coin might go up and down but not as much as a traded fund

    The one thing cash & stocks have over gold is compound interest

    • @directbullion
      @directbullion Před 4 měsíci

      Cash has halved in value over the last twenty years, while the S&P500, with compounding, has averaged 9.8%. Gold has averaged 20.23% over the last twenty years.

    gold as accessories cost same ? and have same value over time?

    • @disgruntledoflondon
      @disgruntledoflondon Před 4 měsíci +1

      Gold as jewellery will cost more as you are also paying for the time/work to create it.
      How much more is dependent on many factors.
      Bullion coins/bars tracks the spot price (market price of gold), normally 5-10% above + any premium.
      This question would be worth a full video on its own.

    Gold is dead money. Bitcoin is the future store of value

    • @conversationofmoney
      @conversationofmoney  Před 4 měsíci +1

      I agree but also disagree. There's been so much talk about bitcoin being a store of value. Look what happened with the recent inflation run. A highly volatile asset can't we classed as a store of value if it can rise and fall so sharply. I think it has the ability to be in the future once it stabilises

    • @SouthWestCarpHunter
      @SouthWestCarpHunter Před 4 měsíci

      @@conversationofmoney I agree with you there. You are correct it is a volatile asset. However now with the spot ETFs and institutional money coming into the market my forward thinking is that it may follow the same path as gold did with its etf. I think now the investor has changed in bitcoin so will the volatility of the asset. Time will tell but I’m in for the long game anyways. My thinking is the bigger the market cap gets the less risk on it becomes

    • @conversationofmoney
      @conversationofmoney  Před 4 měsíci +1

      @@SouthWestCarpHunter I'm with you mate. I've said on the channel for sometime that institutional money will lend more legitimacy to Bitcoin and hopefully stabilise it. I hold bitcoin so I've enjoyed the past weeks uptrend
