Jimmy1982*Playlists A lot of people mention the rappers that are lyrical now are mostly the guys from Griselda. But I can argue guys like Moneybag Yo, Pooh Shiesty, Big 30, Lil Baby and Lil Durk are lyrical too.
I think people don’t want to put certain southern rappers in that lyrical tag cause of the style in how they rap, their accent and them rapping on trap beats. Durk is from Chicago but he’s in that same lane.
I think we got to re-evaluate what we consider lyrical cause we only view stuff lyricism based on a certain type of music or image a rapper has which isn’t right. I feel Wayne out-rapped most of the Griselda members when they did a song together and the same can be said about Kodak out-rapping Kendrick on “Silent Hill.” Wayne is simply one of the lyrical rappers, no one can beat Wayne when it comes to bars.
But because Wayne has songs where he uses autotune & does mumble at times, some might put him in that mumble rap box or non/lyrical box which is wrong. We got to stop stereotyping rappers & putting them in certain boxes to be considered lyrical. Lyricism can be a variety of things.
Sometimes rappers can start off as not lyrical at all but evolve into being lyrical. Rowdy Rebel “Computers” was not lyrical at all but the “Rowdy vs Rebel” song is definitely lyrical and Lil Baby verse on “Yes Indeed” was not lyrical but the “Wants and Needs” verse was lyrical.
We got to evolve our way of thinking of what’s considered lyrical. Sometimes too much lyricism is not a good thing either. Many say Eminem has gotten worst as a rapper by being too overly complex rhyming too many words that the music isn’t as enjoyable. Their needs to be more of a balance way of thinking on what’s considered lyrical. Sorry for the long post
