Great video! It always blows my mind to think that the during the biggest, loudest rock shows on the planet the guitar's signal is passing through that itty bity bit of pickup wire. All hail the amplifier!
Brilliant! THank yOu, dude who made this video!! I just installed a Seymour Duncan into my Variax JTV-89 without hesitation. Here you gotta solder to a board with 5 preset component holes for every pickup wire and get the right wiring order. No sweat! Colors are for children right now. *Knowing* > following instructions
Thank you for the knowledge infusion, much appreciated 👍👍. Just picked up a hot rails telecaster bridge position, a quarter pounder bridge tele pickup and a invader .. amazing tone's. Had to modify the bridge of the mim tele for the hot rails..? I never remember having to do that in the past. Probably end up buying a different bridge gotoh, Wilkinson etc..
Thank you that's really helpful but I have a problem, I'm testing a pair of humbuckers (not SD) when I test red and black wires the multimeter says 10.19 and when I test green and white it says 001, does that mean that one of the coils is broken? Thanks for your help!
HELP HELP HELP. Bought a pair of Seymour Duncan Distorsion Mayhem (new pickup 200€). Neck works perfect, bridge don't (screw side is weak to the tap test). I have this readings: Total resistance (black+green): 8.8. ohm South (red+green): 8.6 ohm North (white+black): 8.83 ohm South (red+black): 17.45 ohm !!! North (white+green): 0.00 ohm !!! What does this means? Is the south pole wire broken? This may sound obvious, my first time with a broken pickup. Thanks to who will answer me.
@@dh4094 It doesn't have that much to do with how hot _or cold?_ a pickup is. I have a 19.2k pickup which is a bit weaker than a Black Winter at around 16k+
Handwound pickups' tolerances vary a lot. Multimeter readings too. You should take into account other components like pots and wires also. Those have more weight than simple wire soldering. There's nothing wrong with your pickup
Dude...this sucks!! I put in a new bridge PU. First time soldering. The guitar is putting out low output. SO IM like, Ill buy a meter and watch How To videos and figure out the problem. But all these guys...the videos are either for people that already have some limited knowledge of circuitry or have no problem! lol I tested my pickupsd the way he showed. On Ohms, right setting, volume knob up, touched the leads to the cable and no numbers. Open. Switvh to neck PU...same thing. Open. But this video must be for people who have no problems but just want to see that their are pickups work! lol Where was the, "If you get an open reading on a pickup then that means etc etc?!?!?" Cos both are showing open and I know both PUs arent bad. UGH

Can’t imagine a world with Seymour Duncan!
like your style
I'm reading less ohms on the guitar cable, but when i use the multimeter at the pickup wires i get the factory spec. this normal?
Useful...

How about vintage single wire
Should start with a one minute get it done synopsis.
My SH-4 is 15.5k, should I try to solder again? Spec says it should have 16.4
Jesus that's really hot.... highest I've ever needed was 13.... heavy metal guy here
