What are Secant Piles or Secant Piling?

Secant piles are bored pile retaining walls that consist of a system of reinforced concrete piles that are placed in an overlapping manner in terms of their positioning.

How are primary piles installed vertical (I have seen some very crooked piles before!), and how are secondary piles kept aligned with primary piles? What system monitors and keeps piles straight?
