You all are going to hell if you think that “faith with works is real faith” the Bible says it very very clear that we are not saved by works at all. It is faith in Jesus Christ alone, nothing else.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV
“and be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:”
      ‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭9‬ ‭KJV
“I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.”
      ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭21‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.”
      ‭‭Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭4-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
      ‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬ ‭KJV‬‬
“and brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
      ‭‭Acts‬ ‭16‬:‭30‬-‭31‬ ‭KJV‬‬
      ‭‭

@@simthiam3712 Works is not evidence that you have “true faith” and faith without works does not mean that it is non-existent. First of all, James is talking to saved people because as you can see from the beginning he calls them “my brothers.” In verse 14, it is not talking about salvation, when it says “can faith save him” it is referring to verses 12-13. Faith alone cannot save you from judgment without mercy, because as you may know even saved people are going to be judged and will be rewarded for good deeds, again not salvation. ( 2 Corinthians 5:10). In verse 17 “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.”(KJV) When it says “dead” it does not mean that it’s “non-existent” or that it’s not “true faith” it means it’s useless, barren, idle. “And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb:”
‭‭(Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭19‬ ‭KJV‬) when it says “the deadness of Sarah’s womb” it doesn’t mean that he womb is non-existent or that it’s not a true womb, it just means that since she is of old age it’s dead, useless, barren because logically it cannot carry a child(but as we know God is capable to make anything possible) likewise, in James 2:17 when it says it is dead, it just means it is useless because you aren’t helping anyone or yourself and you are not glorifying God. In verse 18 the example is literally saying that he is showing a human being his faith alone and the other human showing his faith with works
obviously a human being cannot see the faith of someone of it has no works but God can, he knows everyone’s hearts. James is encouraging SAVED people to live a Christian life so that it is profitable for him and other people. Verse 21 says that Abraham was justified by works, now the question is, justified before whom? “For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God.”(Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭2‬ KJV) He was justified before men, not God. To be saved we need to be justified before God, so again this book it’s not talking about salvation! We are justified by God through faith alone in Jesus Christ. Just one little note, the fact that James recognizes their faith, means that they have it!

James taught that works are required for Salvation.
    Jesus also taught -
    No Works - No Salvation.
“Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his demons. For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink. I was a stranger, and you didn’t invite me into your home. I was naked, and you didn’t give me clothing. I was sick and in prison, and you didn’t visit me.’ “Then they will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and not help you?’
“And he will answer, ‘I tell you the truth, when you refused to help the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were refusing to help me.’
“And they will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous will go into eternal life.” The Book Of Matthew
Also, the man who was given a talent and buried it was rejected by God because he didn't do any works.
    The Book Of James 2:20-25
"Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, 'Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.'And he was called the friend of God. You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way?"
The false church denies these important teachings, even contradicting Jesus our Lord.
    2 Peter 2:1
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them-bringing swift destruction on themselves.

Ephesians 2:8-9 declares that we are saved by grace but if we read the very next verse, we will learn about works as well. Verse 10 reads “for we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus FOR GOOD WORKS, which God prepared beforehand that WE SHOULD WALK IN THEM.” So, yes indeed those three verses 8,9 & 10, answer the question of works and faith in one back to back. You can work your way to heaven all you want and still end up in hell, or you can just have faith in Christ alone relying on him versus yourself.

When your intelligent don't feel intelligent for being intelligent. When your wise don't feel wise for being wise. When you succeed let others praise you and not you. When you know something, fix your face and look like you don't know much. Be normal. Give up all pride and be humble for not even god does that. Amen. How worthy is evil? It's so worthless that we don't need it and it should have never happened. If evil did happen, it would happen once to prove itself wrong then everything shall be perfect forever later. God allows evil to happen so he can shine his light in the darkness to prove that murderers, liars, the sexual immoral, thieves, swindlers, drunkards, scoffers, slanderers, and everyone who practices falsehood are unneeded and unwelcomed. To help your faith just picture a man who was happy and enjoys murdering children and gets away with it till he dies. Yes he succeeded with no remorse. Now picture the universe full of these child killers and ask yourself this question. Will they always exist? Is it fair that they keep winning? Will these murders keep on happening forever? If the stench of evil where to linger and be the huge elephant in the room forever than would your consider the universe we live in full of darkness? is the problem fixed?
Additional facts to help your faith:
God hated sinners in the old testament then loved sinners in the new testament to show how unworthy and undeserving we are of his love. We are unworthy to accept his gift which is forgiveness of sins and that's why its free because we can't buy it. We can't afford it. We can't buy it because were so unworthy. His gift and love underserving love is free. God could of ended us and made everything perfect again and it would have been just.
They say the bible is just a Jewish religion. Like us people, our image is in the likeness of god and the angels should not refute God for creating it, So shall us people on earth shall not refute the chosen people of God whom were given to write Gods word. A human isn't jealous of an angel who gets to guard Gods throne. Any regular person isn't jealous of a Jew who gets to be the Son of God. The father had to choose a lineage and let no other lineage be jealous. A horse isn't jealous of a camel because it can hold more water because that's just how god intended to be. It is written on His thigh. We are saved by HIS Work. HE is faithful to save us. Any good works we do are prepared for us by HIM, for HIS glory. We are completely dependent on the mercy and grace of God, and the sacrifice of Lord Jesus for our salvation. The entire Bible is about Jesus. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. He is the very Word that saves us. He is Lord and God, Saviour and Sacrifice. He is the first and the last, the beginning and the end, Alpha and Omega.

Let us not be fooled! We do not want to be one of those who will be turned away on that day when men stand before God. The way is narrow, and the road is straight, and FEW be that find it.
Matt 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Verse 22 MANY will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Verse 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Matt 7:14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and FEW there be that find it.
Our sin has set us all on the road to hell and no amount of good will fix the sin we have done.

If we want forgiveness for our sin and peace with God. If we want to escape eternal hell. If we want to go to heaven we must understand the following. We DO NOT get saved (go to heaven), get right with God, forgiven, by being good, by being religious, by just believing in God, by praying a prayer, being baptized, asking or accepting Jesus into our hearts, accepting Jesus as our personal Saviour, confessing our sins, joining a church, cleaning up our lives, doing penance, taking the bread and the wine, or doing all these things accumulative.

Salvation takes repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Acts 20:21. testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.
Make no mistake. We cannot be a friend of Christ and remain a rebel against God. The word repent, from the Greek word “metanoia”, means a change of mind or direction.
God is not receiving those who almost or kind of repents. It is like the word About-face which is a 180 degree turn. We turn from not wanting God fully in our lives to willfully surrendering to Him to lead our lives.

When any person comes to the place where they are broken over their sin toward God to the point that they want to get right with God no matter what it will cost them they are in a state/spirit of repentance toward God. Luke 14:33 Luke 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.
We then take that heart we have towards God and place it on the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Master and that becomes faith. At that moment God’s grace through Christ is freely applied to us and we are born again, saved from eternal hell and sealed by the Spirit so that we will never again return to the practice of sinning. Eph. 2:8,9, 1John 3:9,10.

Our first command after salvation is to be baptized.
Repentance of sin is the result of the new birth/salvation and will be part of the sanctification process and our new life with the Lord Jesus Christ, Eph 2:10. While we may sin from time to time after salvation it will never again be our practice 2Cor. 5:17, 1John 3:9,10.

John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

REV. 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

That's the point of the message in the Bible and this message. There is a difference between a head belief and a heart belief. Only our faith in Jesus will save us, if we believe in Jesus we will try our best to follow his instructions. There is sin from the flesh I. E a slip up followed by repentance and there is wilful sin where we know something is bad but we chose to continue to sin. If you struggle to give up a certain sin the Bible says we should fast and pray to break any demonic strongholds the Devil may have over us. Take practical steps to avoid that sin and by our effort the Lord will be pleased and help us overcome it. Whenever I have fallen back into a certain sin its because I stopped taking shelter of the Lord.

No one is saying we can get to Heaven by ourselves. The fact God lets anyone at all in is merciful. He gives his grace to all, and nothing we do warrants this initial salvation. But if we choose to leave his grace, then we choose to not go to Heaven. How do we choose to remain in a state of grace? By doing good works (not works of the flesh or works of the law), doing what Jesus described the Sheep needing to do, because not doing those acts also loses your salvation as it did for the goats. Suffering, picking up our cross, bringing back lost sheep (protestants) repent out sins, obeying his commandments, taking communion, being regenerated through baptism and obeying the authorities Jesus established. Daniel, I love you and listened too all my life, I greatly appreciate the scriptural clarity you bring to the theological chaos of prodestantism. That being said, I have converted to orthodoxy. You should look into it, and church history. Nobody believed in saved by faith alone or sola scriptora until the reformation. I was deeply grieved by the lukewarmness of the church and the theological chaos and division that I looked into church history and what is called patristics to see what the early Christian’s believed. And what we have done as evangelicals is great a Christianity that is a mile line and an inch deep. Trying to replicate born again experiences. My mom claims to be born again is unbaptised, living in adultery, never goes to church. Is she saved? We’ll how can I argue against a Christianity that has convinced her she is. Hey Austin, I’m glad you took the time to share your honest thoughts and beliefs here about Eastern Orthodoxy and that you believe they are the one true apostolic church.
That being said, as someone who is a genuine believer in The Lord Jesus Christ, and as a person that would hate the thought of anyone going to the lake of fire, I must propose some genuine objections to the beliefs and practices of the Eastern Orthodox Church, as I believe they are (for the most part) contrary to scripture and could cost someone their salvation, and therefore their soul, if they remain believing in these Eastern Orthodox doctrines.
Firstly, the denial of justification by faith alone/apart from works is a very serious issue that we cannot take lightly. Sure, we can disagree on the use of icons/relics in the church building, etc. but the doctrine of how a man is justified is non-negotiable.
I’m going to quote some scriptures from the New Testament that, in my opinion at least, prove beyond reasonable doubt the doctrine of justification by faith alone/apart from works:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
      John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬)
“Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith apart from the deeds of the law.”
      Romans‬ ‭3‬:‭28‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬)
“But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,”
      Romans‬ ‭4‬:‭5‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬)
“Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
      Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬-‭2‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬)
“knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.”
      Galatians‬ ‭2‬:‭16‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬)
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
      Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭(NKJV‬‬)
With regards to your claim that nobody believed in “sola fide” or “sola scriptura” before The Protestant Reformation, well I’m just going to list a few names of Christians that were around in the early centuries who did believe in many views that Protestants would have today:
      - Augustine of Hippo, a church father, had similar views on sin, grace, and the presence of Christ in the Eucharist to those that many Protestants would have today
      - Jovinian was an early church theologian who believed in eternal security and a form of “sola fide” who was sadly condemned as a heretic by the Roman Catholic Church for having these views and for also being an opponent of asceticism.
      - Vigilantius was an early church theologian who condemned the practices of intercession for the dead and veneration of the saints
      - Ratramnus was a 9th century theologian who denied transsubstantiation
      - William of Ockham denied papal infallibility and believed in a form of “sola scripture”, hundreds of years before the Protestant Reformation
      - Tertullian was an early church theologian (and one could argue early church father) who rejected the belief in transsubstantiation, affirmed iconoclasm and denied the perpetual virginity of Mary.

@@dylansheridan2892 appreciate the long message there. I did read it. I think its funny how you quote John 3:16 and then say if I’d don’t believe in faith alone through grace alone then I’m not saved. So in trying to escape papal supremacy prodestantism has made thousands of popes. Unless I believe in sola fide im a heretic and everybody before the reformation was a heretic and baptized wrong, and did the Eucharist wrong, and the liturgy wrong. This is the arrogance of the reformation. Instead of looking backward they re-invented the faith. Luther said, I’d rather drink blood with the pope then wine with the radicals, referring to anabapists. Supporting the killing of one another. And now they have been constantly reforming with endless denominations to the point you’ve got people rolling around on the ground in trances screaming before the altars. In trying to get away from the pope you invented thousands, and the theological divide will only increase. I’m tired of the theological chaos, I believe in unity through patristics. Just because you found some examples doesn’t prove that the general view is against what you believe in. Even the earliest letter of clement talks about bishops being the succession of apostles. And prodestants don’t even have the bishops. Every prodestant flavour claims to be the authentic early church but they aren’t. They are a break away from the true church. A branch off the corrupted Catholics. How can prodestants be the “one holy catholic and apostolic church,” that was “once and for all handed down to the saints.” Prodestant church services are absolutely unrecognizable from the early church.

I would highly recommend that you check it out.
We could go over and back for ages about what early/late church fathers and protestant reformers said and didn’t say, but the fact of the matter is, scripture says what it says, and the ones that I quoted earlier make for a very compelling case for the doctrine of justification by faith apart from works, don’t you agree?
You want my opinion on who the “one true holy apostolic catholic church” is? St John ends his gospel saying:
Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
So I know I won’t change your mind, but so that you understand orthodox mind. We believe in Holy Tradition that there were teachings given person not included in the gospels past down by apostles in person. Which are proven by above verses. The apostles quote Jesus sayings that are not written in gospels (above).
And so everyone is coming to the bible with a bias and with there interpretation. What’s is clear from scripture is a heresy to another. This is why all prodestants aren’t lutherans. There’s was serious disagreement. I decided to believe in Holy Tradition, the echumenical councils that put the bible together, the creeds, doctrines on the Trinity and nature of Christ. I don’t believe that Germans in the 16th century had a better interpretation of scripture then those Greeks, discipled by the apostles in the first century’s following who received the gospels in there own language. Therefore I choose to interpret scripture through the apostolic fathers and patristics and the councils. When the church was truely one holy Catholic Church and pre-denominational. I follow the liturgy like those given by John Chrystosom bishops who came out of Diocletian persecutions not office works from SBC in America. This is the orthodox mind.

James chapter 2 is not promoting legalism notice how he says in verse 14 faith that doesn’t have works, can THAT FAITH save him,

The letter of James is not written to the Church.
*Paul says that man is justified by faith only, without works= Rom 4:1-6/Tit 3:5-7/Eph 2:8,9/Act 13:39
*James says that man is justified by works and faith=Jas 2:24
*in Jas 2:21-23 James is quoting from Gen 22:1-18
*in Rom 4:3 Paul is quoting from Gen 15:4-6
Both speakers are addressing two different groups of people. Paul is addressing the Church and James is addressing the 12 tribes of Israel as in Jas 1:1.
Therefore there is no contradiction to what they both say. But if we say that they are both addressing the Church, there is a contradiction. And we are not rightly dividing the word of God, as in 2Tim 2:15 King James bible.
*James says, ask if you lack wisdom Jas 1:5
    But
Paul says, Christ Jesus became for us wisdom 1Cor 1:30, we don't have to ask for wisdom, we have wisdom in the new man.
*James asks a question in Jas 2:14 , James says = (if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him?), No it can not. Future Israel believers need works and faith to be saved. A lot of churches read pass this question and do not answer it.
In James 4:4, James is addressing the 12 tribes of Israel. James calls Israel Adulterers.

He said only the one who do the will of my Father and in John 6 says the will of the father is to believe in Jesus! Ofc we should still not see salvation as an excuse to sin or not do works we should still love and work hard for God. But its not what saves us and if you find yourself dont do as much works but still believe than you are still saved because it is those who BELIEVE who are saved! Have a blessed day.
