  • Quite a few requests for this... so here is a quick overview of the entire 9 month build process. Roughly 1 minute from each of the 40 episodes I posted all condensed.
    I had forgotten so much of this already! It was great to revisit all the memories when putting this together. Hope you enjoy!
    PS - "Tony" the bike, is currently riding sweet!

    Wow, nice Job. I ride an older 2005 K1200s, totally stock, but love these cafe racers.

    Holly shit.the amount of deductions and work you put in is mind-blowing.
    I got a k100 last week and i am absolutely afraid of doing even half of this modification.
    I am only going to give it a nice paint job new seat and lights and i really love to add some bell style velocity stacks if i can

      Thanks! To be honest, if you just do some research and watch a pile of CZcams videos, it's all quite straightforward. My biggest worry was the main seal, but it went well. Good luck, and safe riding!

    Hat's off to you sir, what a wonderful rebuild. Not to be a troll, but had you thought of individual K&N airfilters instead of the original airbox?

    • @joeshaw123
      @joeshaw123 Před měsícem +1

      Can’t do this with the 8 valve K100 management - the engine needs the original air flow meter to run

    Just watched this video! Amazing! Chatting to the viewers helps some of newbies. I have been wanting to build a Cafe racer for years. Especially a brick. Had to put it on hold while I moved my family from SA to Aus. I see you're from SA too. Would love to get in contact with some words of wisdom if you have capacity!

    I've been following along and I can't see what brake master you ended up going with and what size? I've been giving serious thought to replacing may stock one with something else. I've struggled to find anything definitive on the best one to use. You've had yours a while now how was the feel and ease of use. I noticed you've kept the same calipers.

    • @smackbikeNZ
      @smackbikeNZ  Před 9 hodinami +1

      My calipers are working great after did a full service on them during the build. 40 year old brembos, wow.
      The rear master cylinder and front master cylinders I bought from cafe4racer online. Been very happy with them.

      @@smackbikeNZcheers, I’ll check out the master. I’m putting some thought in to replacing the switchgear and throttle too.

      @nogaragerequired yeah, the new ones you can get are nice and neat and tidy. You do complicate your life though and have to map your cables carefully. Took me a while to get everything right. Also, if you replace the brake side lever you'll be looking for another choke/throttle advance solution. Have fun.

    what are the rules in NZ about shortening the rear of the frame? i am looking to do a café or bobber build but don't want to hit low volume cert issues. i figure if you change you front forks and that changes you calipers you will need cert for the brake modification, but just wasn't sure about after market rear subframes, or shortening frames and adding rear loops for under the seat.

    • @smackbikeNZ
      @smackbikeNZ  Před 21 dnem +1

      I got lucky, and my guy didnt worry about the small change I made to the frame. So I didnt need to recert.

    Hi mate, did it need LVV by any chance as you trim the rear part of the chassis please. I am super keen on Cafe racer but worried about LVV certification. Any pointers would be helpfull plz.

    • @smackbikeNZ
      @smackbikeNZ  Před 4 měsíci

      If you modify the frame you are supposed to go LVV. It's a bit rough with K100s as clearly the stress of the frame is not compromised by welding a hoop.
      In fact, being shorter it's probably stronger.
      I had the bike looked over by a person who was sympathetic to this perspective, and had no problem issuing the WOF. Still.. I was prepared to fork out the cash if necessary. Just do a really neat job on the welding.

    I have watched your complete series on this and have built my own K1100 Cafe Racer. Can I just say the most annoying thing throughout is your music. Its total crap and makes large parts of your vids un watchable. Having said that the work you have done is commendable. Drop the music dude.
