On this Fix It Friday we will go through some of the common problems that you can find with the Genesis/Mega Drive and how to fix it.

    I have a Sega CD model two. It stopped working one day. I just took it to a repair shop. He couldn't fix it, despite the replacement of the most commonly broken parts. I wasnt charged.
    It is different than it was before I took ot to the shop. It used to stick the splash screen. Now it is not responding to any power.

      With out visual evidence my best guess would be that the fuse is bad. Hope you figure it out

    I should have tried contact cleaner...i ended up replacing a reset button with a microswitch on one console.

      Yeah contact cleaner is a miracle worker and can resolve a lot of issues. But if you want I think those original reset buttons are still available

    Good video. Did you clear that solder bridge at 8:34 before testing?

      Yeah I cleaned all of that up. Otherwise that would’ve been pretty ugly

    7:23 is it okay to let the power jack solder points bridge? I just ask because I'm desesperate to fix a genesis model 2. It doesn't want to turn on, I already clean the motherboard (all traces are ok no cracked ones, no corrosion) it just doesn't turn on.

    • @LIRetroGaming
      @LIRetroGaming  Před 3 lety

      No those solder points need to be separated, otherwise you are shorting the main input voltage to ground

      @@LIRetroGaming I guessed so, mine still doesnt work, I test with a multitester the regulator, ground-input and ground-output (first gave 0.05 and the late 0.01) does that comfirn my problem is the regulator? is it easy to change?

    • @LIRetroGaming
      @LIRetroGaming  Před 3 lety

      It’s possible that the regulator is bad, but I think I would really need to see it in person to be sure

    My model 2 works somewhat, the TMSS screen comes on but won’t load the actual games. A week ago it was working a lil bit just freezing on the games, no scrambled graphics. Not sure what it can b

      It’s hard to say, but to me that sounds like maybe a bad connection at the cartridge slot. I would start by cleaning it thoroughly with alcohol and a toothbrush and seeing if the connection improves. I would also confirm that your games are good, and hopefully there is another system you can test them with

      Long Island Retro Gaming lol I fixed it by soaking the board in 90% ipa and letting it dry out after. It’s been working for a few days already and I’m happy 😃

    I have a weird question. I have a genesis 2 that works fine with the two carts I have handy. It only plays some games from my mega sd though. I tried Roma of the two games I have and the crash at the title screen or during the sega logo. I tried a couple cd Roms and those work as well as Aladdin and Tetris. There was a lot of corrosion on the board that I cleaned off so maybe it’s just getting a poor connection somewhere. Does anyone have any ideas?

    • @LIRetroGaming
      @LIRetroGaming  Před rokem

      That probably is an issue with the genesis but without pics it’s really hard to be sure. Have you tried the flash cart on another console to rule it out?

      If the red led doesn’t turn on then the power socket has probably gotten loose and needs to be resoldered. I show how to do it in this video

    • @LIRetroGaming
      @LIRetroGaming  Před 3 lety

      Yes the solder that connects the ports to the motherboard had cracked. I added fresh solder and that fixed it

      I found a schematic of the board,and it seems as if ports lead to a single strip on the board,but i wouldnt know what is was called,or how to test/repair it.
