Space is big. Really big. You will just not believe how mind-bogglingly big space is.
You might think you're big when you look in a mirror, and space is _almost_ as big as that.
The Force. They've found The Force. It's what binds the galaxy together.
Extra galactic.
I was thinking Star Trek Discovery, season 1
Sorry, Force is invisible and can only be detected through it's visible effects, i.e. force choke.
@Prowler Cam So much better than transparent aluminum!
This is not the Force, this is the mighty Schwarz.
Missing matter - it’s always in the last place you look.
Richard Hopkins I was going to say that 😀
Maybe it's in the freezer!
Maybe that's where dozens of my socks are.
@Richard Hopkins Rimshot level dad joke right there! :P
Which is usually right in front of you. At least in my case 🙂
some of the missing matter is probably my fault. I have increased by 30 percent since covid.
It's only making you more attractive.
That's okay. My brother in law has lost 30℅ by having to mow his own lawn and fret over what's open, and what's closed, in the last 8 months. So the Universe remains in balance.
I’ve got all you folks beaten. When it comes to grey matter, I can only account for 50%.
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
U and me both bud XD
TL;DW:
1. there was a lot of normal matter we did not know where it is
2. There are gases between galaxies connecting all the universe, but is kind hard to detect
3. We detected something about those gases and they are huge, they seem to be the missing matter
@Kevin S 8.468*10^47 atoms
So about the same as in 2 grams of pure hydrogen.
Or (Edit: 44) liters of hydrogen at 25 celsius and atmospheric pressure.
Pretty insane.
I keep getting number of liters wrong. 1 mol of any gas is 22.6 liters so two moles would be ~44 L. I think I'm right this time
@Kevin S hmm that's a bit tougher. Electromagnetism is much stronger than gravity in general. So electrons "orbiting" a positive nucleus are drawn much more to the nucleus by electromagnetism than gravity.
But to find your questions answer, one would need to calculate the sum of the attractive (electrons to the other atoms positive nucleus) and repulsive (electrons repulsing the other atoms electrons and nucleus repulsing the other atoms nucleus) electromagnetic forces and find the overall net attractive or repulsive force between the two atoms. Finding out gravitational force between the two would be quite easy, just using gravity equation with each atoms mass.
And then compare which is stronger. My guess would be gravity because the attractive and repulsive forces might cancel each other out between the two atoms.
This would be a fun problem to try on your own if you're interested in this sort of thing. Are you planning to go to school for science? I just graduated with a degree in Chem a few months ago. Lots of jobs available for chem. I've heard physics and bio are a bit harder to find jobs in than chem if you don't go to grad school. I still plan on going to grad school though bc school is way more fun than working hehe.
Edit: sorry just reread your comment. Astronomy and physics is really interesting and honestly much better in entertainment/hobbyist value than chemistry in my opinion.
@@qwerpasdf 2 grams?! Your calculation was a little off! 😊
A single mole of hydrogen weighs about 2 grams. A cubic lightyear of space contains about 0.7×10^30 moles.
@Kevin S In answer to your second question, a hydrogen atom (1 proton + 1 electron) has no net electromagnetic field over any large distance, so it's purely about the gravitational attraction, which comes down to the mass.
This still doesn’t explain why my socks disappear in the washing machine

I guess the phrase, nature abhors a vacuum, is truer than we thought.
Ok so if the universe is expanding ina negative vacuum wouldn’t the vacuum increase with all aspects of its expansion? Is that what attracts things and gives them gravity? A lack of vacuum? What happens when a positive vacuum mass is places in a negative vacuum environment???

Dark matter is science fiction based on the assumption that Earth has a heavy iron core *and* that Earth is the densest object in the Solar System. Why would Earth be four times as dense as the Sun?
@@jameso1447 wut?
@@jameso1447 You're gravely misunderstanding a number of issues. First of all, and you might not have heard of this, but there's a lot of hydrogen and helium in sun. Like, almost everything in the entire solar system is those 2 elements and almost all of it is in the sun.
Now, here's the kicker: Hydrogen and helium are the 2 lightest elements there are. They have lower density than any other element. Sun is a very large object, and being mostly made of materials with extremely low density, the sun consequently has low average density as well.
Sun has a core consisting of heavy elements too, consisting of materials that don't participate in the fusion reactor, and that core builds up as the sun ages. That core has higher density and mass than Earth, but sun isn't only it's inert core.
I would also want to know why the existence of dark matter is predicated on Earth having an iron core. As far as I know, it's only at and above galactic level that the existence of dark matter becomes necessary to explain the continuing cohesion of the structures.
@@jameso1447 maybe because it’s solid. I don’t know much about the small details idk.
@@miskakopperoinen8408 Maybe you haven't heard this: The theory that the Sun is made of hydrogen is based on what we see on the *surface*. Saying that the Sun is 90% hydrogen (based on its surface) is like saying that Earth is 70% water.

Just like when Aristotle believed that air was a substance of light
Wellll ... at the quantum level ....
I prefer the term "aether" than "space". As a matter of fact, "space" signifies an empty void. The longer we study it though it turns out it is anything but. Aether on the other hand has a cryptic meaning in Greek. It could be a gas, void or something else all together that we cannot figure out yet.
@@Phaethon569 "Space" is a plenum of information, differing from that which we might refer to as "not" space (?) only by the density of the informational radiance that is omnipresent in the Universe. Call it aether if you wish, as a term of differentiation, but the nature of all existence is a singularity, an ocean of wavicle manifestations and dynamics - agglomerations, couplings, emissions, absorptions, reflections and refractions - as gradations of density. The most recent discovery of the Voyager 2 satellite, which recently passed through the Solar System's heliopause, reveal that the energies beyond the bow wave of the Solar System's flight through the aether, though of extremely low density, are at a previously unimagined level of excitation, in the range of 50,000 degrees C, or 89,000 degrees F. There is no "empty" space.

@@jedimasterlex13 Rock on, man!
I felt like we already knew this, or at least had an idea of it or a theory, but at least now it’s being confirmed empirically. Best way I can picture it is as something viscous like polyethylene oxide just exploding but still sticking together, the tough but stretchy bonds representing gravity, and it all will eventually clump back together, forming stringy masses and tangling, eventually going back in on itself. Picturing it this way seems to give me a better idea of the truly enormous amount of matter and particles that make up this anomaly we call our universe. I knew there was no way all of the matter was clumped so neatly into each individual galaxy like that. An amazing concept!
Edit: I think a better representation would be something like ballistics gel being detonated from the inside and coming back together.
Thank you, I appreciate the way you explain your videos

Dark Matter. Is as of yet UNPROVEN..
"dark matter" and "dark energy" are placeholder words for something we know is there but we don't understand. Our calculations don't work unless we add in.
