Thats such a good idea. Getting heartfelt gifts like that for your mother teaches you to think about the things that would be the most emotionally valuable to her.

@bearwitty9690 So? The very foundation of the competition is to be as thoughtful as possible and show their mom how much they love her. Her coloring it up to sound sinister is just a part of who she is. It's the subtext of what she's saying here, you assume the worst because you're taking the joke literally even though she quite clearly details a story about how her and her sibling go out of their way every year to show their Mom how much they care and appreciate her by giving her thoughtful, meaningful gifts they know will make her feel the warm and fuzzies. The competition is because they're siblings. Because literally ALL siblings compete with each other. And, tbf, if I had to choose I'd rather compete with mine over proving who can make our parent the happiest. That's what this competition is about; who can make their Mother the most nostalgic and happy and grateful for the thought and love her children are putting into their gift. Please show this to your Mother if you can. Please. She'll explain it better than I can. If you can't, find one and share it with them, especially if they have teenagers.
My boss’s dog passed away last October. For Christmas I painted her and one of his other dogs who had previously passed away playing in the snow together
I got my mom to cry with a gift basket of snacks from the Dollar Store. Everything was her favorite treats, she cried because I knew her so well. Didn’t cost me much and I won Mother’s Day that year 😂🎉
My siblings don't do it intentionally but if one of us does make her cry one of us shouts "you win!" However I do aim to purposely make her cry because I want to win
I remember a few months after my grandma died, my sister and I dug up a ton of old photos of her and had a photo album printed for our mom for mother's day. She cried so hard. She said it was the best gift she had ever gotten.
A good tip for this if you are having trouble thinking of a sentimental gift: Make your mom a stocking. When we did this it was full of the normal stocking stuffers but she cried and told us she has not had a stocking made for her since our Nonna died
The Christmas that was like 4 days before my husband and I got married, I got his and my mom gifts that made them both cry. Felt good. Felt powerful. Every year I get my husband's best friend's gf BANGER gifts, we've gotten to be good friends too hehe ❤
When our youngest was little she made me a Mother’s Day card in school and wrote “I will never forget you.” That was over 10 years ago and we still say it every Mother’s Day. 😂
I did hide a rubber cockroach in the birthday card for my niece, who's like an annoying kid sister to me. Also, she left it up to me to move boxes of her clothes interstate, and I had a few spare rubber cockroachs ... BTW, she has a cockroach phobia.
At my graduation dinner we pulled a prank on my partner's parents. We slipped his diploma into the decorative case they hand out at the ceremony. He had worked on his diploma for years (both of us took like a decade) and his parents kind of let it go, but he quietly finished up and got it done. At first they just thought yes-yes very nice and we said no, look at it. And his mom started crying, she was so proud of him! My parents arrived a few minutes later and we filled them in and it was a very nice family weekend. And I sometimes remind partner about that time we pranked mom so hard she cried! Ha! In your face! 😂❤😂
Whoever gives the best gift is the person who made someone cry happy tears ❤ Always gives good memories, and people end up with the most sentimental gifts. My godfathers family would do it with the whole family, not just the mom. One christmas, everyone was crying of my godfathers gift to his daughter .
At a work Secret Santa, someone who knew how much I loved my GSD gifted me dog treats/toys. Unfortunately, they DIDNT know he’d recently died. That’s where having a dark sense of humor helps… I laughed while I cried. 😂😢
In my family we call this winning christmas. Who ever got the gift that gets the biggest emotional response (tears, excitement, laughter) wins at gift giving for the year.
I have a friend who’s always so appreciative of any gift we give him that he’ll cry. Prob one of the best ones was this heart puzzle we got from Etsy that you can put custom engravings on each piece that say stuff like “you are loved” he cried for so long and we all hugged him.
Okay, the *best ever gift* I got my mother. ... *I did her Xmas shopping for her,* for the rest of the family one year. She had asked me to pick up some meh gifts (shampoos ect) for various neices while I was doing my last Xmas shop and I discovered she hadn't done any real xmas shopping. So I got a list of who she still needed to get gifts for (nearly everyone), I threw out the list of what she planned to get (she's a socks are a gift type), and I chose and bought the gifts ... I had overbought on a few gifts already so that helped me and I was stuck on what to get my mum. The only "problem" was that our relatives really complimented her on her personalised gift giving choices that year, which was a accidental passive aggressive win for me...!!
My dad and aunt do this with my grandma and my sister and I have started doing it with her and my dad lol truly a tradition I’m proud to continue. We also make bets on how many people are gonna cry while giving thanks on thanksgiving
Me and my sister have a similar thing we’ve been doing forever 😂 during big life events we try to say the thing that will make our mom cry. So far my sister holds the record when she casually said “it’s my last first day of high school and her last first day of middle school” and the speed at which my mom burst into tears and hugged us cracks us all up to this day.
I want someone in my life that loves me so much, they get in a competition to trigger my nostalgia that way. It’s not fucked up. It’s beautiful even though you cover it with the macabre.
I am one of three sisters and we do this for Christmas every year. We call it the Sister Christmas Contest. People have commented that yes, it’s effed up, but we wouldn’t do it if we didn’t really care about each other.
No same!! We do that too! I really thought I was going to win last Christmas with the Shutterfly photo blanket with her favorite quote on it, but then she remembered I got a refund from when they messed up my grandma’s blanket and suddenly it wasn’t sentimental because it didn’t cost anything 😭 It’s an extra challenge because she’s judgy as hell like that and we never know what she’ll love or piss get off.
My siblings and i always brag to each other about which of our gifts made our mom cry or got the most animated reaction out of our dad. Once i even made my grandma cry with a quilt I'd made her, and that was like a new tier of feel-good gift giving
This is what me and my sister do. My grandma has the same reaction when she gets gifts- She says "Ahh" in a very sweet tone which is cute but I've heard that same "Ahh" for all 21 years of my life. So we started doing a thing where we try to get her gifts that make her cry
At Christmas, so it’s like a competition with my family too. My dad’s one of those he cuts every individual piece of tape on the wrapper and then proceeds to gently unwrap it once it’s all the tapes cut and he does it to annoy my family so we try our best to see who can get him and whoever does it like, doesn’t really get a prize but hilarious bag where we usually have this thing the family dinner that we usually have it at that side of the family that could do the presence in the box.
