cool gadget. but i think it needs a rotating sliding lid in order to: 1. cover dirty wheel with sand on it if you want to bring it with you to your office; 2. this lid should have some kind of plate on it if you want to put a vehicle like a suitcase.

It's a bit tricky to compare peak power with nominal power of the AW, max speed of the solowheel with first beep of the AW (max is 18, not so far from 20).
More safety? Alerts? Where? Just remember me, what's the capacity of the batteries, especially the first model? 500bucks, just a new solowheel battery?!
I have nothing against solowheel, these are good products, although too pricy (I would love to have one if it would be cheaper), but a good product can be sold without lying.

I think I'd try the cheaper brand first just to see if I could ride the damned thing and if I actually got any use out of it.

I am really worried about heat management inside the wheel compartment. It is a closed space where all the heat dissipated from the motor, the batteries and the tires accumulates. I suggest putting a large fan, or a blower with high flow rate. Pointing it upwards will maximize the cooling effect.

It is all nice until you see the inside. I also wonder you don't get your ass sued selling this.
MY Friends, please help to share this amazing experience I have, before it gets deleted.
      This is a rip off.
I fell hard on my back, and the back of my helmet hit the concrete floor, when the hub motor of my fancy Airwheel X8 stopped working while I was braking from 10+km/h.
The X8 then quit working. I only had it for 3 days.
I decided to take a look at the inside and see if there's anything I could do to repair it. After all, I am capable of rebuild my dirt bike's 4 stroke engine, complicated gearbox, and am a partner of a Prototype company that handle R&D and prototyping projects from reputable consumer electronics companies.
BIG SURPRISE!!!!! I have seen all kinds of poorly made products in my career, but this is an eye opener! Everything inside is fixed in place temporarily with thermal stick glue, which came off easily.
Batteries in the battery pack is not Japanese as advertised.
Wires are dangerously under gauged and guarantee a high risk of burn through during use and charging.
The fault of my X8, was a tiny but critical metal part in the hub motor which broke off under load, because it was made with wrong and undersized material, obviously to cut cost.
Estimated cost of manufacturing this RIP OFF, is about $120 US dollars per at max, or $80 if they really go low.
      $10 board
      $25 explosive batteries
$65 hub motor and tire (Tire is $15)
$15 The "Distinctive Look with High-End Essence", plastic injected, plastic cover.
      $4 to put everything together
      $1 thermal glue stick (hahaha!)
      $0 Quality assurance
$0 R&D (It is copied by Chinese for the Chinese market)
These things, especially the X8, retails $500 dollars US online. $650 in Amazon. In reality, they deserve a retail value of $200 to $250. In fact, they deserve nothing because these are potential BONE BREAKERS.
I don't expect Segway quality when I pay $500 for a Chinese designed product, but I also didn't expect to almost break my vertebrae, tailbones.
This is taking the unacceptable low quality to another whole new level. This is 20 years ago's Made In China quality !!
YOU, Airwheel. Your webpage is fancy, beautifully made, your products trademarked. Nonetheless, you would not throw in another $10 per unit to spec your products properly.
$500 dollars, is not a small amount of money. One can spend a couple hundred over a nice bicycle and be sure its head tube would not break apart while riding at 15km/h. That's minimal safety guaranteed.
$500 dollars smart phone, should not explode in your face.
$500 dollars coffee machine, won't burn up.
$500 dollars, can buy you a DVD player, a microwave machine, an espresso maker, a whole lot of consumer products with exchange for a full tank of gas, and a big take away at Burger King.
So, why a $500 self balancing unicycle (oh what a fancy phrase) capable of traveling at the speed of 18km/h, has an internal that's held together by thermal glue, and a under spec'ed hub motor that can fail without warning?
My friends. If you are into this thing, I don't blame you. After all, I bought one, it's fun, and we are all into futuristic thingy.
BUT, make sure you wear a full face helmet, a full off road bike suit and gears, and prepare to BREAK some bones while riding, because it comes with guarantee.
As for the fancy marketing image of having this thing take you to mass transit on your way to work..... Just don't do it. You do not want to fuck yourself up in front of people while failing on the road. Arrived at the office with a broken wrist, dislodged jaws, knees without knee caps, broken through PRADA apparel.

      @vvnachovv Před 10 lety

    • @abkine
      @abkine Před 9 lety
