Bandai Namco has hit the mark in reinvigorating the 26-year-old Tales RPG series. Tales of Arise brings to life a beautifully realized world with a story that isn't afraid to tackle heavy subjects and knows when to take its foot off the gas for a bit. Its characters feel real and relatable even in fantastical situations, and a fresh and fun combat system livens up their battles. Combined with plenty of quality-of-life improvements ironing out some of the series' long-standing frustrations, this is an easy recommendation to not just fans of the long-running series but anyone interested in diving into an expansive action-RPG.

35 hours in this game has raised the bar for me it's an absolute gem.
a character that hurts everyone that tries to touch her and another that cannot feel any pain is a pretty cool dynamic

I'm playing this game and absolutely loving it. My first Tales game, and the combat and story have me hooked.
There's great games in the series and some that are just so so. But this one is for sure a great game. Tales has always been "that other" JRPG next to Final Fantasy. But they have a few games that surpass some FF games. Even the best ones

If you've never played Symphonia you should. It's on steam.
Hitman 3, res evil 8, it takes 2, monster hunter rise, ratchet and clank, returnal, Scarlet Nexus, the ascent, 12 minutes, deathloop, tales of arise,..and many other still to come🙌🙌

This game really brought out the kid in me again. I’m really taking my time exploring every map, talking to NPCs, and completing side quests 🥰 Arise really redeemed this franchise

Brilliant game and its been 5 years since Berseria! And even Berseria was cross gen title between PS3 & PS4! So next gen Tales is absolutely fantastic! The love Arise is getting is fully deserved! So glad ppl get to experience Tales now

A 9/10 for an anime rpg by ign is really a 10/10 for any other rpg.

Base, if you want costumes get deluxe. But there is already a lot of costumes in game
Well upgrading this game into UE 4 really made a huge difference

Loving the game for sure. Confused on how you unlock new Artes other than the skill grid. It seems totally random how they unlock in middle of battles. Does it pretty much just come down to spamming a certain Arte til it possibly unlocks another???
If you go into the skills section, of each character, you'll notice on all artes, there's a count number, each time you reach that limit (by using that arte) you'll expand on it
Only certain one unlock other artes by proficiency. But not all. If you want to unlock the others, you'll have to progress further into the story in order to gain new ones.
Unreal engine, anime style character, deep story, addictive combat style cameos and lots of quest complete this title, 9/10 ? Why not.
Amazing game. Made me feel like a kid again.

There are different looking weapons. and armor is customizable you get a certain number that look different and then you can unlock Skins ingame by finding certain stuff

@@Jbayz they own all assets to dark souls as it’s their IP, same with Sony with demon souls and bloodborne. It’s how Bandai namco was able to make code vein, they just strung together dark souls assets.

My personal favorite Tales of all time is Vesperia hands down. But I'm having a real blast playing Arise. A breath of fresh air to the series.
I'm 40 hours in and gotta tell you this is definitely RPG of the year and best Tales games ever.

How many other RPGs this year are you 40 hours into though? Hard to justify being certain if you've mostly played the 1.
@@Gabath0t Not impossible it could get GOTY but there's been other strong releases. Ones that sold and reviewed better and some still to come that likely will as well. There's obviously the games that didn't sell as well but reviewed better as well. Or those that sold ridiculously well like Valheim and Tale of Immortal but that weren't widely covered in the media.
If any of you are debating getting this game DO. It is an amazing game!

Tales of Arise is an amazing and immersive game that keeps you entertained and more importantly fascinated by the sheer experience that I’ve wanted so long in the Tales series.
Is it a story line where choice matters and changes the world around you or is it more linear?
@@cobrakaiX It's not like the Witcher were you're able to make choices that influence the story. Tales of Arise tries to let you understand the choices made by the protagonist and then you get the feel of certain aspects of the game as a whole.

After the nightmare of a equpitment upgrade system in berseria, the crafting system in this game was a breath of fresh air

Tales of vesperia was my first. Played it last summer.
been a hot minute since a tales game kept me interested as well as symphonia and vesperia, my new favorite in the series for sure
Main character voiced by Noctis, Final Fantasy 15.... one of the minor characters is voiced by Tartaglia, Genshin Impact.
It made the game feel more familiar by being familiar with voice actors from other rpgs.
Never played a Tales game before, but that is gonna change after the demo of this.
Do yourself a favor and play Xillia 1&2 it's the big transition in the series.

Why does the game have an unlocked framerate in resolution mode on PS5 /SX? Doesn't do the performance a big favour, tbh. 30fps with better lod would have been the better solution here.

Fantastic game. Beautiful scenery very smooth gameplay the combat aspect is clean and simple easy to understand. 10/10 in my eyes there’s a lot of hours to be played I’m only 3 hours in.

Despite the disrespect to Vesperia, Graces & Berseria at the start of this review, this game is amazing and definitely a top tier Tales entry.

Shame the subtitles are FULL of typos, errors, and often don't match up with what the characters are saying out loud. Like, did anyone actually playtest this game?

Definitely recommend you play Berseria as well if you will enjoy this one. Amazing story and characters.
Vesperia was my favorite. Eternal Sonata was amazing as well even though not a Tales game.
Tales of Destiny 2 (Tales of Eternia) for PS1 was by far one of the best JRPG's I have ever played and the best Tales game by far.
Never played the second one but the first tales of destiny is the one that got me to love the series. Still the best game I’ve ever played
