Lisa, you are hands down the best laptop reviewer. Period. Straight to the point, no BS, just facts and data. Love it.
Dave Lee
LOVE the delivery of this review. Super high content density, no BS .. Straight to the point. Just fantastic.
Thanks for outputting your stuff in 4K Lisa! I love the detail when I'm watching on my 4K TV!
Lisa has perfected the thinkpad review
I don't know if I love you or Lenovo's ThinkPad product line more
Paul Benish are you married to Lisa
I don't want to interfere with your marital status, so I'm prepared to weep quietly over that yoga.
M We're all married to Lisa ... in our dreams! 😭😭😭
A fantastic review with lots of info once again
Mine's arriving tomorrow so this display is great to see those convoluted specs better explained and to know I didn't misinterpret something accidentally.
Love your work Lisa
Dang, the artist oriented part of the review is GREAT!
Of course the hole review is awesome but only you can hit all the box, gr8 work!
Just discovered your channel a week or 2 ago when i started looking for a new laptop. I thoroughly enjoyed your reviews and am ordering an x1 yoga. thank you and keep your reviews coming, although i hoping i wont need a new one for quite some time
Finally a review from MTR on this device! Been waiting for it for ages. Now I can finally make my next portable computer purchase decision final. 😜
Thanks!
Watching on my X1 Yoga 3rd Gen... Loving this machine
Thoroughly enjoy your reviews. BEST on the web!
Finally! What a great review that I've been waiting for!
Rocking one of these machines in 2024. It's a really nice machine still. I have an extra external pen for it, for drawing, and it's super nice. Even older machines are still quite useable.
Yes please, for a smackdown between Surface Book 2 and X1 Yoga! Great review by the way! Very much appreciate that you go into detail about display quality, and the internals.
Great, was waiting for this one... I just hope they are out soon... :) Thanks!
Thanks a lot for the review, it really helped 😊
This video was so informative it helped me purchase this laptop with confidence. Even sprang for the HDR display. Thank you!
Where did you purchase it? I can't find it...
I just ordered one and got $745 off because of their Memorial Day sale! I can't wait to get it! Thank you for your excellent review!!
Keep up the great reviews, Lisa!
Im grateful for your objective reviews!
This review so so great. Thanks for the content.
Such a good person and what a nice review! Thank you!
I remember seeing your review for the IdeaPad Y580 way back in 2012. I still have mine and it still works (though the chassis is in rough shape, to say the least). I just ordered an X1 Yoga with the top CPU, 16 GB of RAM, but not the HDR display, as money is tight even with the Memorial Day sale. Can't wait to use it myself!
Yes please to this vs SB2! As ever, thank you for your thorough reviews! Super helpful.
Just realize that you HAD already done this - which I have now watched. Thank you very much for the smackdown!
Just bought one of these off of ebay from a company that sells refurbished corporate computers, in surprisingly pristine condition and relatively cheap. Several times with these used laptop purchases I've looked at your video reviews because you do such a great job of presenting the hardware! I got this for my young son so he can draw with it and do some homework- he doesn't need a high priced new computer, but this will be excellent for him. Thanks again for a great video! I love how a lot of expensive computers from a few years ago are bargain basement cheap now, yet still will get the job done.
Hey, I'm watching this review for that exact reason. It's about $500 AUD. Considering buying it as it's probably going to comfortably do everything I need it too. Do you do any photo editing in it?
@@samuraipizzacat2171 Sorry just saw this. This laptop is fantastic! I could easily use it for most tasks. For my son, I don't have Photoshop on it, but I did load Krita and Sketchbook Pro (found an older copy from when it was still free) and it works great for those things. I think it should be fine for basic photo editing. The screen looks really good. I checked and brand new batteries are available for it also, fairly cheap so when the time comes it will be easy to replace if needed.
@@samuraipizzacat2171 oh one more thing, I found all the needed drivers for it at Lenovos site for installing WIndows 11- the only hiccup is the wacom pen wasn't working 100 percent (with pressure levels) with the driver on Lenovo's site. I got an updated driver directly from Wacom and the pen works perfectly now.
Lisa, thank you for not falling into the recent Dyson trap. This is why I love your channel and honesty. :)
Thank you Lisa - very honest review 🤩
Great review!
Exceptional! Congratulations!
Yes,Pleeeeease. This vs Surface book 2... for a Capture One, ACDSee and PS user for photog.
Colour accuracy/availability/calibration, naturally important. Thank You, Thank You in advance.
I was waiting for this review for a while. Great improvements. The bezel around the screen is the same as 1st gen was hoping they take the xps route nevertheless great improvements
Im sold! Thanks Lisa!
Favorite reviewer by a MILE.
YAAAAASSSSSSSSSS! I love it and love your review! :)
*happy sigh* My dream laptop! Thank you so much for doing this review!
And many people STILL keep asking "why would anyone buy a glossy display" Here's why, at 0:43 .I would rather ask why would anyone, who doesn't work under very bright light would ever buy a matte display nowdays.
Great review. X1 yoga is imo one of the best laptops you can get
Great review as usual. Still waiting for the review of the amazing Dell Canvas 27.
Yeah, I don't know what happened with that. Dell said they were sending us a review loaner but it never happened and they haven't answered my questions about that. Certainly a shame- it's an interest product, though it will probably be eclipsed by the new Wacom Cintiq Pro models,
This channel is fantastic!
Looks like a great upgrade from my HP Spectre x360! Almost like everything but all better.
Nice. Now i want one.
bought Yoga X1 Carbon based on may reviews including Lisa's awesome to the point review. Just an update for people who are planning to buy X1 yoga 3rd Gen. I am have been using this laptop for 3 months now and it already is showing some issues. First and foremost is Flickering of Screen issue after only 1 hour of use. Second is that when you close the laptop without shutting it off and open it again after 5 min sometimes the screen doesn't come on, you have to close the screen and reopen it and then it works. and last is that now the fingerprint scanner has stopped working. I still home it may be I got a bad unit but lets see once I receive the laptop back after being fixed from Lenovo as to how it performs. Another thing about yoga line up I have heard from few of people who have owned Loga lineup that there is issue with yoga as to screen flickering, Cheers.
I've had it for almost two weeks, and I haven't had any screen issues. I would think you got a defective one? Have you tried updating your display drivers? That might help!
I have one for years (2d gene) now and I still have amazing customer relation ; I have the feeling that I will have it for ever. They helped me to upgrade it... really, simply the best of the best experience. The minus part : sometime, when you flip it, the screen don't want to reverse. And only a restart will correct it.
Lisa,
Thank you for the wonderful review. The Carbon X1 looked as though it had a more matte HDR screen in the video. Were they the same, or was one more matted?
Thanks!
Great review! Please do a smackdown between new X1 Carbon and HP Elitebook 800 G5. Thanks
Amazing review as always. Think you can ever review the HP ZBook x2, and compare it with the Wacom MobileStudio Pro, and maybe the Surface Book 2?
Ssooooo glad I found your channel l love your reviews. Please if u can a royal smack down would be awsome! Keep up your great work 🐨🇦🇺
Your review has just justified my purchase ! Thank you !
Also, I thought there was suppose to be a new pen from Lenovo that charges using USB type C ? I've seen it from Notebook Italia
at around 1.35 min mark.
Pata Max,
could you tell me how your battery life is with your new X1 yoga? (and what build to you have?)
Thx!
Great review, as usual! I'm actually curious if you'd do a 3-way smackdown: HP Spectre x360 13 v Surface Book 2 v Yoga X1?
Also, do you think the MIL-STD specs give the ThinkPad an advantage over the other two?
Best laptop reviews on youtube
Thanks Lisa! Would love to see this compared to the XPS 2 in 1 as well, or paired with a eGPU box for the surface book comparison! How is it ergonomically with onenote?
highly considering buying one of these but gonna wait for the xps 15 2 in 1 with the g series 8th gen intel/amd graphics.. can't wait to see that smackdown!
Hi Lisa! Wonderful review as always! I absolutely adore your reviews of thinkpads! Given that most of them age so well I was wondering if there'd be a chance you might do a round-up style review for budget buyers - As an example, I purchased a used Lenovo T-410 about six months ago to learn web-development on and honestly it's been enough to get me through learning the basics all the way to making apps and getting clients. I think it'd be a great thing for students like myself who can only afford to ogle at the latest and greatest but still need something that's "good enough", and given that you've reviewed so many of them it'd be great to see your take on which models remain functional / or what to look for. Anyway, thanks again for the wonderful reviews. I love how thorough and honest you are!
Would love to make this Laptop as my daily driver. Had my eyes on the thinkpad X1 carbon but this may have changed my mind. Excellent review!
John Anongos you can do a lot better for 1600 dollar
You're right. I was considering the Gigbabyte Aero or even some of the Dell inspiron line up, but I'd like to try the ThinkPad with an eGPU and external monitor. I think I'm sold on the durability of the ThinkPads.
What specifically is better? So far I have tried and rejected the Surface Book 2, the Dell, the HP, the Samsung, the Razor and the Macbook Pro. What should I try next?
Jason Stewart if you spent 1600 dollars on a dell xps 15 you get a thin verry powerfull laptop with a way more beautiful screen a core i7 and a gtx 1050
Jason Stewart and no way you had all the latest laptops of that brand
Great video and laptop, thanks :)
A current T440s user wants a review on the T480s!!! Redesigned model so I won't buy until you reviewed it!
Hey, fellow T440s bro! Nice! I'm interested in this comp, too! :D
Wonderful as usual! Thanks! I am still undecided because of the gpu. You said OK for photoshop and video editing, but sb definitely better and no tilt on the pen here. Another pen would work and have tilt on the yoga? Hp zbook x2 has 32 Gb ram but costs a fortune, and not yet available in quad core in Italy. .. hp spectre x360 2018 not available yet.... I'm looking forward to your smack down and I wish they would make available to you also the hp machines! And I hope they will be available in Italy soon! Thanks!
Found this on Lenovo for $1,249! Going to try and get this laptop as a grad school gift!
Best reviews on CZcams! I still love my HP Spectre but I definitely have Gear Acquisition Syndrome! 😂
great review! Can you compare it with HP Spectre new 15" edition with the new AMD vega chip
Will it be possible for future laptop displays to have local dimming zones like some Vizio TVs?
Thanks for an awesome review! Would you consider reviewing X380 Yoga while comparing it to the X1 line? Thank you!
Thanks! Great review as always! And yeah, I'd love a smackdown between the X1 Yoga and the 13" Surface Book 2. I'm trying to decide between the two for some heavy productivity work combined with occasional light content creation stuff, and I also sometimes need the tablet functionality. I think many people have similar needs for their work and are trying to decide between those two flagship machines for that. Keep up the good work!
FlaneurSolitaire indeed! And I would extend the comparison to hp spectre x360 15" 2018 and expecially hp zbook x2!
Can you do a short comparison video between the gen 2 X1 Yoga and the gen 3 X1 Yoga? Pros and cons in a short split screen lineup? Or at least an article about the two?
Please make a smackdown of the top 2-in-1 laptops on the market! I would love to see that :-)
Yes. Please do smackdown with Surface Book 2 15
Thanks for the review Lisa, awesome as usual. I have the gen1 and it is still going strong but that display makes me want! Its funny what can turn you off. I recently had a HP Elitebook x360 for a couple of weeks. I use tablet mode a lot and the sharp edges were a dealbreaker. I much prefer the smooth edges of the Lenovo.
Wow, the yoga is running with my other choice, or two as I tinker with the thought of the Dell 2 in 1 15" or 13". Curious how this yoga will compare to the Dell and the HP Z Book 2? I plan to do/learn light video creation (up to 4K) as well as needing storage capacity (That is why the Dell and HP appeal to me as I think they can go up to 32gb RAM.). I take copious notes use storage faster than some. I managed to get a good 7years out of my last Vostro before it taking some nose dives and crashing, etc. It is retired and using a stand in Dell until I officially upgrade. I appreciate being able to get into the laptop and change things out if need be and or upgrade as was able with the Vostro. CZcams has been a lifesaver for that.A yoga feature or tablet as with the HP should work for other desired uses.Great video as always. Thank you.
I really wanted a display comparison like the one in this video for the Acer Predator Helios 300, because the price of it is so reasonable and people say the display is trash.
Lisa... Thank you for your informative reviews. While having a IT background it is no longer my primary focus. I decided to go w/ the Thinkpad Yoga X1 over many of the other models & competitors. While quite pleased for the most part the 1 complaint I have is the residue that left on the black framed model. I can send you some pics if needed. Residue seems to be from finger prints & also resting your palm or using the trackpad. Do you know if this goes away or what to do about it? I have just been using the microfiber cloth it came with to wipe it off. Takes a bit more elbow grease than i am comfortable with. I am working w/ Lenovo on possibly replacing it if it cannot be resolved. I am told it will go away in a few weeks. Any suggestions you have would be appreciated, I would rather keep the black than Silver.
Are you gonna review the x1 tablet 3rd gen? Seems like a winner. Detachable, x4 tb3, quad core cpu, 3:2 aspect ratio. I want to try it with an egpu!
Hey, I really like your reviews, and have a request for a smackdown. The x1 yoga, x380 and the L380 yoga are very similar, but with very different price tags. Could you do a comparison, to get a clearer picture of how much these differences matter? I would like to know if it's worth going for the higher priced models.
Yes, as you said, they drop the prices really low when a new product comes along, but that doesn't mean the new ones quantum leap ahead of the previous generation. people must stop buying cheap crap and save for lenovo thinkpad series. they are rock solid and reliable with upgradability.
Hi Lisa, Thanks for the great reviews! Can you please drop in a comment how this compares with an x380? It seems to have all the same features except for the keyboard mechanism but has a good price delta. Would be even better to see a x380 vs X1 Yoga(3rd gen) head to head comparison!
Hello, when will you review the new Lenovo x380?
Ps: Thanks for your great reviews(:
Second this. A Lisa review of the X380 would be great! The X1 Yoga 3rd Gen is a little too big for my taste, 13" is where it's at.
I am thinking about the X 1 Yoga or the 920 4k Yoga. Can you make a comparison video. I do like the Thinkpad keyboard with the intergraded pointing device. But is the X1 worth the extra cost? I use mostly an iPad Pro 12.9”
Great work mam !!!
i can now finally afford this!!!
Excellent review. I'm with the other commenters in that I love your no BS style.
I'm debating whether to get this laptop (or used 2017 model) for the Wacom AES, good keyboard and Trackpoint. I have a 2016 Dell XPS 15, and it's a nice laptop, but I'm SICK of using the crappy trackpad and longing to return to Thinkpad land. If there is one thing I wish Lenovo would introduce to their Thinkpad line is a discrete GPU option (1050 or something similar would be fine) for the ultrabooks. Currently the only Thinkpads that have GPUs are the workstation P models, which are huge, expensive and don't have Wacom AES. I guess it would be nice if the RAM was user upgradeable to 32 or 64GB too :D
AGREED! I would LOVE a Thinkpad like this with discrete graphics! (Also yes on 32 GB RAM!)
I definitely trying to decide on a 2n1 for Lightroom (90% of my time) and a little premier pro (10% of my time). I think it is down to this or the surface book 2. Any opinion would be great or maybe another option if you think one could be a better choice. Thanks in advance.
Please do that surface book 2 comparison! Although personally I'll choose thinkpad for quality control any day.
Thanks!!
I need it so bad :(
Smack down would be great!!
Yes please do the smack-down with Surface Book. Which is better for content creators?
Please add some more information about upgrading hardware in future
To anyone looking for further review of this laptop, I have been using it for 3 months now and it is an absolute beast. I cannot imagine life without my yoga x1. It has an incredible battery life, and as a digital artist the pen is beyond compare. THIS is one of the best laptops your money can buy, recommend all the fucking way.
YESSSS! THANK YOU! As a fellow (aspiring) artist, I was SO hoping to get a review from an ARTIST'S POV, but could never find one! Thank you so much! I was especially wondering about the pen's performance! SOO glad it's awesome! *cries* THANK YOU! If you don't mind me asking, which screen did you get (I want the 1080p for battery life on the go), how is it, and is it really glossy (especially in (direct) sunlight)?
@@7Write4This9Heart7 The screen is super vibrant, though I'm not sure about direct sunlight. I have had sun pour through the windows, though and it was fine. I got the 1080p and the battery life was awesome, like 10 hours when I first got it. now it's about 6 on average, still 10 on battery saver. It's a pretty bad ass build.
@@rosemediagroupca DUUUUUDE, you have NO idea how much you're making my day right now! Thank you SO MUCH! That is AWESOME news! *cries tears of joy* If you ever want to share your art, I'd love to see! :D
@@7Write4This9Heart7 Definitely! my tumblr is darnheckingjuliet. You can find a lump sum of my artwork under the artwork tab (all digital art was made on my Lenovo X1) and all the illustration work in the poetry section was also done on this PC!
@@rosemediagroupca Do you have how much of the color gamut the FHD one covers? Do the colors seem accurate? Lisa never mentioned that, and obviously, that'll be important to me. lol. I don't want the HDR version since it'll drain the battery too quckly.
Fantastic review, I love the screen! Can you please share the Wallpaper?
That's the stock wallpaper for the HDR ThinkPads.
MobileTechReview Do you still have your 2nd gen x1 yoga? I have the first and second both with OLED. Love the OLED and would love to see a video of it next to this new Dolby Vision display. I heard your comments quickly comparing the two in this video, but would you be able to quickly show both next to each other?
Please do compare this one and surface book :p btw does this work with lenovo graphics dock?
Excellent review. Wasn't afraid to forward it to my technophobic wife, who is deciding between the X1 Carbon and X1 Yoga. Is there any way you can compare the glossiness of the (non-touch) X1 Carbon HDR screen to the (touch) X1 Yoga HDR screen? I was wondering if the touch layer reduced the glossiness to any significant degree. Thanks!
Is there a inner frame made of magnesium just like in the x1 Carbon?
Smack down with Surface book 2 please!! I am trying to justify the $2,800 price of the surface book. I have a Lenovo Yoga 14 and works great. So this might be the next purchase
Apple's bugs and missteps have been making think about going back to Windows... this laptop makes me excited about maybe going back to Windows. Nice.
BTW, have you ever tried turning your mic around so that the clip is on the outside, and the battery barrel on the inside of your shirt? I'm curious if that would work and make the mic more subtle.
I wish you did reviews this detailed on Linux pre-installed laptops like the ones from System76.
What a cool stufff!!!
Smack down!
Great review! How does the X1 Yoga compare to C930 Yoga?
She mentioned something about that in a later video (a smackdown between C930 and Surface Book, I think? Been months, lol), mostly about how the C930 keyboard doesn't hold a candle to/is a lot mushier than the X1 Yoga's.
Hey Lisa!! Can you make a review of the Lenovo L389 yoga? Nobody has a review of it!
