My dad would sing this song with me and brother as I sat next to him on the way home from our weekly visitation when I was a little girl. I was three years old when this song was released. Singing it with my dad was very special. So 2:53 much that I would sing it to myself while remembering that cherished time with my dad. I was elated when I found this song on CZcams and could send it to my dad and my brother.
This is the prime example on you tube of the power and emotion in ray charles's singing and piano playing. Let's face facts. There will never be another singer like this in our lifetime or probably ever again. A voice from the sky. Truly touched by the hand of God
Its amazing to me that all these other stars had titles..King of Soul, Queen of Soul Empress of Soul...and nothing wrong with that. But every once in a long while... comes along somebody SO good that they inspire...touch the soul...shake us to the very core. Somebody SO good that they dont even need a title. This is that star...known the world over as simply "Ray"...RIP Ray...never will there be another.
WHAT SCARES ME IN MY REAL DEAL CLASSIC GOSPEL MUSIC WORLD OF "THE GENIUS" IS THAT 21 HUMAN BEINGS ACTUALLY DISLIKED THIS POST FROM 12 YEARS AGO....I WONDER IF THEY HAVE ANY HEART OR SOUL... I REMEMBER THIS SPECIFIC RC PERFORMANCE IN A MOVIE 1964 SR YR IN HIGH SCHOOL AND THIS PERFORMANCE STAYED WITH ME THROUGH MY BEING DRAFTED IN 1966 - THOUGH PRESENT DAY...RC HAD A LONG FIGHT DEFEATING HIS DRUG DEPENDANCY BUT DID FINALLY WIN THAT BATTLE TO BECOME THE ONE & ONLY "THE GENIUS OF RAY CHARLES"..bmpr
The master in concert. He traverse and rolls over a note with such skill and with his own grip on it - it moves to tears. Want this song by Ray at my funeral when they put me away. It is the best version - try and sing it like he does in the shower and see where you get. I listened to Ray on black and white TV when I was 12 years - he had his own show then. Still may favorite male muso. This guy just oozes music and soul
God!!! After i see You, when i am gone. Can i please see Ray. I have something to say to him. I just whant to pray. I just whant to say to people its not over. We are going to see a life with out any hurt.Hey Ray---i know what you are telling me. I understand sir--yes i do.
His best song too me...such a singing technique coupled with his unique phrasing of his words and that death march tempo give his version of this song and eerie beautifully texture that only Ray could pull off
On December 7th, 1963 Ray Charles' "That Lucky Old Sun" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; evenually it would peaked at #20 and spent 9 weeks in the Top 100. Frankie Laine had the most successful version of this song; on October 1st, 1949 it reached #1 and stayed in the top spot for 8 weeks, Ironically it's 8 weeks at #1 was ended by Frankie Laine himself with his version of "Mule Train". Other 1949 charted versions; Vaughn Monroe {#9}, Frank Sinatra {#16}, and Louis Armstrong {#24}.

Ti ricordi Alberto quando siamo andati al concerto di Ray allo stadio Braglia di Modena, tu volevi venire insieme a me, ma io nn ti volevooooooo, adesso sei in cielo!!!!!!!!!!!! Sigh, sigh,
I still have the worn out LP with this song, did you notice only white faces in that room, this song is about a black man ,a black man hurting ,talking to God, His music has inspired me all my life,
This has always been a very moving song, but Ray invests it with the touch of greatness. If you can listen to this without a lump in your throat, you ain't got soul!
Absolutely stunning....arguably the finest singer of all time...(after Luke Kelly, but that's another story) .....incredible soul, passion and power. Ray was a singing genius.
Of all the versions I have heard, this one has the most soul for me. I also like Louis Armstrong's version - its cheeky and sad and sweet, but this one has something else. This one really get in there. The chords he chooses are perfect.
@nightswimmer99 You are right about (Gillespie & Smith) I first viewed the video last month my love for this song included a blind vision and a sense of pain, as a white man, Working 2 Jobs, supporting my mother and sister, waiting for my lottery number to come up to go, which it did. some times the things we don't see as it pertains to music make songs like this much more meaningfull. Take another look at that video, then listen to that song with your eyes closed, I for one will never.

Who gets lost in his voice 😉❤️❤️❤️
Ray Charles could make a religious experience out of any song. Incredible.
This is best way I’ve ever heard his music described
He brings tears to my eyes as he sings from his soul! We miss you Ray!
How true. Cant help weepin' silly as I savor his unmatched
performance of Lucky Ol' Sun.
My dad would always sing this song at family gatherings. This is my first time hearing the actual recording.
The most soulful vocal instrument of all time. We are so lucky to have audio and video of one of the greatest artists in musical history.

His songs are so hard to sing cause he makes them his
Never sings the same way twice
What a legend
Those were the days. Not one phone in the crowd.
Every second of this magical performance captured in their memories forever.
The sound of America. That is why people want to come here.Joy-pain-hope..and freedom.

Almost 50 years ago and there's been nothing even close since
Precisely.
I didn't appreciate this till I got older!!
After all these years, he still makes me cry
why would someone give a thumbs down on This????
The musical genius...
Love this! Im 21 but good music is GOOD music!!
There will never be another musician quite like Ray Charles.
This is possibly my favourite thing ever.
i have heard a gazillion versions of this song and i have to say Ray Charles and Jerry Lee lewis are the only ones who got it right
His best song too me...such a singing technique coupled with his unique phrasing of his words and that death march tempo give his version of this song and eerie beautifully texture that only Ray could pull off
Dude Ray totally owns this. There is no comparison really. This gives me goose bumps.
it's when I listen to Ray Charles that I feel closest to "God"
Haunting song. Surrealistic.Out of this world. One of the best songs ever penned and performed.
first time i've heard this one and i have to say it's bloody brilliant
I heard today 11/4/19 on the Fordham Radio station. I was so affected
This is real music.
Amen.
I love me some Ray Charles

It was as is...but some how, some how! they found a smile or two in thier every day toils, they worked all day then struggled after...
Ain't no sunshine when he's gone..... Ain't that the truth 😢❤
powerful stuff

Interesting……Ray's version is the best!
don't need a lot ...a piano, a voice, a soul.
fantastic performance
one of the most beautiful songs of all time
The Genius of Ray Charles. Not many black people in the audience. I wonder why.
Man is this performance emotional.
Nobody does this song like this!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS.
gorgeous, as always. His own.
I am in love with these lyrics and of course with his voice
Ti ricordi Alberto quando siamo andati al concerto di Ray allo stadio Braglia di Modena, tu volevi venire insieme a me, ma io nn ti volevooooooo, adesso sei in cielo!!!!!!!!!!!! Sigh, sigh,
The definitive version of this song by the one, the only, the "Right Reverend": RAY CHARLES!!!!!!!!!!!! Rock and roll and soul are here to stay!
can't be a better version in my opinion
. it's at the top!!
Mesmerised 😇😍

I just love Ray, he was such a wonderful entertainer. At 01:15 he takes my breath away... ^^,
I think I love Jerry Lee's version over all others, but Ray Charles is a genius and this is amazing.
