  • Travelling from Verona to Innsbruck over the Brenner pass has been one of the great railway journeys of Europe since the line opened in 1866, and now its my chance to ride it.
    As an added bonus ÖBB have just launched their "new generation" Railjet sets onto this route, so we get a chance to ride trains that have been in service for less than a month! Are they any good?
    I've got a 1st Class Interrail ticket and so its time to test out both this stunning route and also these new trains!

    Travelling for four years by train for work around Austria and the South Tyrol (plus Switzerland) I began by taking a book to read. I never bothered after that as you watched the lush and spectacular scenery. It made you ponder over the insignificance of humans.

    We have been to Verona and Innsbruck
    but sadly not connected the two by train.
    We would love to do the Brenner Pass as it is
    as you pointed out, beautiful and is a regular line
    unlike some of the Swiss lines
    running tourist trains at HIGH prices.
    We liked Innsbruck and it has the interesting
    metro-cum-cable car line into the mountains.
    We also went on a local train to Jenbach
    then took the Achenseebahn into the mountains
    and the ferry along the lake and then back..

    Another super watch, thanks! Gorgeous scenery. But what is it about modern train seat design? Those new RJ seats look flat as heck! And the huge winged headrests look claustrophobic to me. As a 6'2 bloke, I'm a bit worried about the seat pitch too! Anyway, looking forward to the next one!

    • @JohnnyHooverTravels
      @JohnnyHooverTravels  Před 5 dny +1

      Yes, the seat pitch was quite small for first class and the seats proved uncomfortable. Which is a shame because RailJet seats have always been so good.

    I do like to keep an eye on my luggage in the racks. But I am not sure about locking the luggage in there. I could see myself failing to unlock the liggage in time.
